Survivor: Guatemala Castaways Announced Source: CBS August 11, 2005
CBS today announced 16 new castaways to compete in Survivor: Guatemala -- The Maya Empire. The castaways will begin their adventure with a grueling 11 mile hike through the jungle when the eleventh installment of the Emmy Award-winning hit series premieres Thursday, Sept. 15 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network.
Survivor: Guatemala -- The Maya Empire takes place amid the ancient Mayan ruins and ceremonial sites (some as many as 2,000 years old) located in the northern area of Guatemala. Amid the excruciating triple-digit heat, crocodile infested waters, relentless mosquitoes and terrifying sounds of the howler monkeys, these new castaways will attempt to "Outwit, Outplay and Outlast" in hopes of winning the $1 million prize and title of "Ultimate Survivor." In addition to the grueling overnight hike, the castaways will be faced with two additional surprises in the first episode that will dramatically impact how they play the game.

Maybe white people are the only ones crazy enough to do this show.
I wonder if there will be any new interesting dynamics added to the game...

I'm glad they're back to 16 castaways. First time since... since... I don't know when. Either Amazon or Pearl Islands.

Maybe he's not a millionaire. It's easy to earn a mill in real estate though.

Uh...
From TV Guide:
The cast of the 11th edition of Survivor, set in Guatemala and slated to premiere Sept. 15, will include not just former NFL quarterback Gary Hogeboom, but also the surprise addition of former castaways  namely, Stephenie LaGrossa and Bobby Jon Drinkard, both from Palau's pathetic Ulong tribe  the New York Post reports.

Steph and Bobby Jon are coming back?! Are those the two additional surprises they were referring to?

Stephenie.. was she the only Ulong member to make it? If so, I liked her. Hated Bobby Jon though.

I'm contemplating getting into this, but everything tells me not to.
I lost interest in Survivor after Season 5 or 6. I started watching from Season 2. Overall, I liked it even though the first episodes are usually quite a bore, such a hastle getting to know the characters. I'd love to get into it again, but here's the deal...
I'm already going to be watching Nip/Tuck, Desperate Housewives, LOST, and ALIAS. And I am about to start my freshman year in UCLA and probably keep up a job I am pursuing.
If I add anything on my schedule (not really interested in the new shows offered by networks) it's gonna be a reality show, either get back into Survivor or start watching the Amazing Race for the first time.
which do you guys suggest.?
I think I know anyway!

What surprises me more than Survivor having another similar location to the last 03050 series is that so many americans are still interested in it.
I mean - guys ; if you want high quality television shows try you know, not watching whatever shit the networks spoonfeed you.
Like Sunset Beach.

Says the fan of "Big Brother UK".
And, are you seriously fucking joking me? Steph and Bobby Jon? That makes no sense whatsoever, and seems like a last ditch effort to let Steph try to win. She has had about fifty chances to win in Palau, and now here comes fifty-one.
"Steph, the tribe has spoken... but, the producers have not spoken, you're still in the game, and win the coveted "Producer's Immunity". Hey you, Random Survivor Player, you're eliminated instead! I have spoken, bitch!"

I'm glad Bobby Jon's coming back but I don't see the point. The Steph/Bobby Jon thing better be interesting and not cheesy.

What other places are there?? They've done all the big locations. Only thing left is a cold place.
Survivor is the cream of the crop in reality shows. It's what made the other reality shows exist today.

Wow, this is the 11th Survivor? Man, that's a lot.... I didn't realize it has been that many already. This has got to be the longest running reality television show, no? Or close to it.
I think they should do a Survivor located up NORTH in CANADA in the freezing cold, and contestants have to live in igloos and hunt polar bears to feed themselves! That would be fun. Us Canadians could then laugh at the Americans for not being able to stand the cold. Hehehe.
This Survivor seems a little more interesting than the usual slate of Survivors since they are living in the ancient runes/whatever that was left on the island by past tribes, and they apparently get the least yet to comfort them on the island. The show just keeps getting harder and harder, in terms of real survival.
Survivor clearly has some sort of draw. Each season continues to gather strong audiences. It's at it's 11th season, and ratings have still held strong.
PEACE, Mike.
