I wouldn't be surprised in the least if AJ won again for Best Actress. She won last year, during what I thought was the weakest of all The West Wing seasons and CJ didn't really have anything special to do. This season she became more important to the show in becoming Chief of Staff and AJ did a really great job. I wouldn't be surprised if they submitted "Liftoff" for her, and she wins. On the whole TWW was a far better show this year than last.
Alan Alda will probably also get a supporting actor nomination, and Martin Sheen will likely see his final Best Actor nomination for TWW, as his portrayl of a president battling MS will probably appeal to voters.
Thursday July 14 at 8.30EDT will be interesting.

Libs will hate me for that sexist joke.
They did this past year in Comedy, and CSI won Drama.

Our Nominees... Kelly Bishop (Emily, Gilmore Girls) Sarah Chalke (Elliott, Scrubs) Judy Reyes (Carla, Scrubs) Nicollette Sheridan (Edie, Desperate Housewives) Jessica Walter (Lucille, Arrested Development)
Excellent choices, Judy Reyes and Sarah Chalke are both wonderful in Scrubs (as is the rest of teh cast, and the show could use the noms!)
I think the actresses that played Mrs. Hubert and her sister are just as good, if not better than Sheridan, though. But the DH cast is likely to crowd up the lead category already so probably no need for them to do the same to the supporting category.
Sex and the City's exit opens up this field, and we hope that means first-time nods for Scrubs' heroines. A high-five for the hilariously haughty Bishop would be cool, too.
Supporting Comedy Actor
John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox, Scrubs)
I will screammmmm if he isn't nominated this year.

The West Wing submitted this episode, along with "Impact Winter" and "King Corn," for Drama. If she was good in "Liftoff," this can only help her chances. The category isn't too crowded, but I'd watch out for Mariska Hargitay.

Did Alison win last year? I don't think she did...

She did and brought Mariska and Amber on to the stage with her, embarassing all three in the process.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see a Mariska Hargitay win. She's really quite tremendous on Special Victims Unit, for those who don't watch it.

That'd be great, but it hasn't happened yet, so I see no chance for it.

That's where I'd peg it right now, with a possible upset - Nip/Tuck - in place of The West Wing.

That's the thing keeping her back is that it's not a show that many talk about or anything. I don't watch it, and I don't really know many that do, even though it is quite high-rated. I say if it had more people talking about it, and it wasn't a spin-off, she'd have a better chance.

For a "leading actress" Alison Janney dosent have to actually do much.
Walk into office.
Be center of some quirky, sophistocated joke
Walk near important people
Look hasselled
39590593 EPISODES LATER
Give a mildly dramatic performance
Walk some more
Look hasselled.
I really quite like her as an actress but come on, four flipping Emmys for a dying show?
Meh. it just shows that teh Emmys only award prestiege.
Seriously
Ive yet to hear a good explanation as to why Alias is constantly shunned by the Emmys. And i remember everyone felt so boohoo sorry for Sarah Jessica Parker and her Best Actress Comedy thingy, but theyve been teasing Garner bigtime by nominating her for every single year and not awarding her once.
Its like "Okay your really good, you get nominated with Alison Janney every year, your like our nomination slot fixture. But we are never ever ever going to give you an Emmy because Golden Globes and SAG think your good so you can just flip right off"
Bloody Emmys.
And where the fuck was Lena Olin's nomination in season two for supporting actress?
Grr.

Yes, she did. I distinctly remembered. And she was on alot of people's lists to win, but some old hag won instead. If my memory doesn't decieve me that is!

I remember now too!
Come on, Tyne Daley certainly didn't deserve the award over Olin.
I think that Alias in general isnt favoured by the Emmys because its actually entertaining.
By the way - anyone found any Alias advertisements kicking about for the Emmys?
Ive tried to find a FYC ad for it...not one.

Found the first [and it seems only] Alias ad.
I dont know why ABC dont push Alias as much. Infact, they hold back a lot on Emmy consideration ads...
A lot of the networks send out DVDs of the best episodes.
I think definately ABC should do that with Alias [and Tuesday should be the title episode]
Boy if i ran a tv network id do things so much differently!

I'm gambling that with hte time slot change, and being after Lost which is a critic's darling, that more voters might have seen it. Sometimes IMO shows (And movies for oscars) get overlooked just from not being watched, not that they are disliked.

So you haven't got to the episode yet where Vaughn gets shot by Jack in the face?

How did she embarass them? :pop:
And about Tyne Daly and Olin, Olin was great in S2, but Tyne was also great in Judging Amy, so I really don't think Olin got snubbed that year. But Alias got snubbed a year after year for Thw West Wing. It was never a stand-out show in my book.
