 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
Question for people familiar with the novels: is the prostitute Tyrion loves (the one who testified against him) a conflation of two characters from the books?

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
No, but she has a much bigger role on the show. In the book she is pretty much just a whore who is using Tyrion. While on the show they established that she does actually love Tyrion. Anything positive she has done on the show is an addition from D&D.

Okay, so did the Mountain die in his combat with Prince Oberyn? It looked like he killed over at the end of the episode two weeks ago, but a co-worker of mine says he didn't die. Just want some clarification without being spoiled.

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
Good episode considering in the books this battle was never as exciting as Blackwater. Will be interesting to see how they handle the Mance encounter. It does seem like Jon being elected Commander will be pushed to next season now, though at least we'll see Stannis arrive in Episode 10.

So maybe no Coldhands again. It might just be a lecture about warging into humans. No matter what happens it is going to epic. maybe less, they have not gotten to the part where Balon Greyjoy falls to his death from a collapsed bridge. It was supposed to happen much earlier too I think they will save his death for next season that way they can introduce the Greyjoy brothers. I don't see how they have time to do his death In the books kinda just happened and is completely forgettable - the show will do it more justice next season - probably episode 1. And I couldn't care less if they completely omit which they likely will do.

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
well I think Coldhands is just hard to really do. Unless Martin reveals something very important about him, could just push his role on to the Children of the Forest and Bloodraven

I think we all think the same. But his storyline or relevance may not go much further so they cut him out.
It will be interesting to see which characters get cut from the show from here on. Will certainly tell us how relevant they will be in the overall story.

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
Martin isn't stupid enough to change his ending for such a silly reason. "I've been building up to this for a few decades, but fuck it, I'm gonna throw it out because they did a variation on it first."
It's like people saying he'll change Jon Snow's parentage because people have figured it out. That's ridiculous.

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
The show will finish long before the books do. I still hold out hope Winds of Winter is out next year but as for Spring (and the likely Book 8 - yes it will happen) - they'll be out long after the show is over.
I don't think the ending will change - the show runners know the ending and will work towards that. Its how they get there that will be different.
And that's not a bad thing. I think they'll drastically improve on Feast/Dance in Season 5 by a.) combining them and b.) focusing on the best bits and trimming the fat.

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
BTW - is anyone else excited about the forthcoming "World of Ice and Fire" book out in October? I know they are including a longer version of The Princess and the Queen" but anynone know if they will feauture a longer version of the upcoming Prince Daeron story in "Rogues" - I'd rather not have to buy Rogues and wait for WOIAF.

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
I will be dissapointed if they dont end the season with While it might not be important to the overall story, the shock value of that will cause a shit storm on the internet ala Red Wedding.

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
I would say I am disappointed with the finale because they changed alot of shit. No Jaime confession about Tysa, No Varys planting the coin so that Tyrion would find Shae in the chambers, no Lady Stoneheart, killing off jojen

. Yeah that one especially, they just fucked up Dinklage's second emmy win. The whole scene was too short because alot of shit was cut.

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
How would they fuck up Dinklage's Emmy win? You can only submit one episode. He would clearly submit Episode 6.
And Tywin's death was perfect. You just have the book too ingrained in your head.

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
I was shocked it didn't end with Lady Stoneheart. I am guessing they are moving that to next season. Also Jojen's death was pretty shocking, although it probably means he will die soon in the books. I think the Hound is still alive. If they wanted to kill him, they should have had Arya do it. I am guessing some monks will find him. The beginning was my favorite part. I loved the whole scene with Stannis and I thought the scene with Jon and Melisandra was great foreshadowing.

(In fact, I haven't seen a single complaint about the scene from anyone who hasn't read A STORM OF SWORDS.)

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
So how long should scenes be, then? The Tyrion/Tywin scene is almost exactly the same length as the book (three minutes vs. a page and a half) with the only difference being the shift from Tysha to Shae and Tywin's final words changing. And for what it's worth, I thought Tyrion's quiet anger was a hell of a lot more effective than his constant snarkiness in the text.
Also, Whitlock's a fucking moron and always has been.

 Re: Game of Thrones:Season 4
I think it was a little rushed, but there was so much shit that went down in this episode so that didn't help. Also about Lady Stoneheart, I wonder if they just couldn't get her to do one scene or something. She was filming 24 when they were filming this

No she wasn't. 24 didn't start shooting until January. They finished filming the Ireland stuff (where a Stoneheart scene would be set) in September.

The Game Of Thrones finale is always disappointing because it means we have to wait a year for the next new episode.
