I don't think he can kill them himself, and I don't think he can leave the island while they're alive. Hmm, maybe he can only live if th right candidate goes with him...and since hd doesn't know who it is, he wants to take them all... maybe... I don't think so. I think he's trying to get them all killed by putting them on the plane. What does he need it for? He can just turn into smoke. This show has been about Jack vs. Locke almost from the get-go, and so it makes sense that Jack will fill Jacob's shoes and continue the eternal battle.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
I don't think MIB can kill the candidates. I think there are some pretty strict rules to whatever 'game' Jacob and MIB are playing, and hands off the candidates seems to be one of them. I also read some very interesting stuff regarding how LOSTs timeline actually reflects theories and principles laid down by Stephen Hawking regarding Imaginary Time (where the island is) vs. Real Time (where the alternate timeline is). The interesting thing is that, according to Hawking's theory, someone in Imaginary time would still see the effects of causality (a cause and a corresponding effect, and to what extend one effect is CAUSED by another event). For instance ... take Sun as an example. In her alternate timeline, she never learned English and we're seeing that trickle into her existence on the island. This post explains it better than I can: http://forum.lostpedia.com/showpost.php ... ostcount=1

Then why are some people alive and dead in different timelines?

He can't kill them himself, but he might try to set up their killing somehow.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
I'm guessing right now is a transition period between Jacob's death and his new replacement taking the role... sort of the 9 day gap after the pope's death and the new one coming in. The pope's death btw is signified by white smoke
Basically... MiB has to get rid of all the candidates before one of them becomes the new Jacob. Once they settle into that role, he'll be in the same rut he was the last couple hundred years
I'm guessing the true candidate is Kate because she was on the lighthouse list but MiB took her off the wall. I think Jacob fooled MiB by making him take off the one candidate who matters. So MiB is going to get those 6 candidates and try to fly them off the island with him and he'll leave behind Kate... and then Jacob's mousetrap will fall on him. Either he'll be destroyed by his failed escape attempt, or MiB being off the island will lead to Kate's annointment, or if Kate is annointed when MiB is off then she'll have full power over the island or something. Anyways that's my midseason theory. I hit the nail on the head last year - saying Daniel will try and nuke time to save Charlotte and that'll be the incident
Here's another thing that's really signficant: Christian is not MiB. There's just too much evidence for it now. First of all he's been in two different places a bunch, for eg. he was talking to Sun in Dharmaville while Locke was on Hydra/crossing the ocean with Ben... and we now know he can't Smokey across water. Secondly Christian has appeared off the island a couple times and MiB is trapped on it. Third when Michael blew up the boat, Christian appeared and told him "you can go now". Again, Smokey can't cross water. There is also evidence for Smokey's water line not being a lie. When Ben called him during the Keamy attack he had to drain the water.
So I would say Christian is either Jacob, or perhaps his own entity, maybe like Isabella. I get the feeling he'll be important and tied to the island big time... and I think them mentioning him not being in his coffin earlier this season was a "this is gonna come up" nod to the casual fans who hadn't seen S1E05 since 5 years ago and probably forgot the scene

The pope's death btw is signified by white smoke. Pope's death is not signified by white smoke. The papal election is signified by white/black smoke. White smoke = successful voting. Black smoke = unsuccessful voting. Did everyone forget about the boy who told Smocke he can't kill Jacob and then Smocke got all pissed and chased the boy around? If he can't kill Jacob (and Jacob is still around), then Smocke has a pretty lame plan if he wants to kill all of the candidates. And what was that things about candidates being able to do whatever they want? Are they untouchable? When does one cease to be a candidate? There are so many new questions and not a single answer so far. This is a convoluted mess. As for Eagle's post the linked content says: Quote: In effect, our main characters are living simultaniously in two parallel timelines & dimensions. And what happens in one alternate dimension likewise happens in another - but just to the people who are caught up in this dual dimensionality - not the ancillary characters in the story like Nadia for example - who can die in one dimension and not the other. That can only work if they affect each other in a circular motion, otherwise the existence of one reality would be superimposed on the other, which would make its existence pretty futile as it would only work as a mirror. But if there's a circular model then that's what makes these worlds connected and effectively makes them move. The problem with this is that you have to have thousands of realities that affect each other. Otherwise you'd get stuck with option A or B if you're having two realities. Imagine Sun's English for instance. If the two realities affected each other what would that mean? That sometimes she'll know English on the island time and sometimes she'll bump her head and get temporary aphasia as a mirror to the sideflash? Or that in sideflashes she won't know English but at times she's kinda going to know what everyone talks around her? That's so lame. Also doesn't that cause/effect theory come in collision with Daniel's? If we are watching the same universes only moving at a different time doesn't that mean that those universes are getting further apart from each other with every second, thus distancing themselves and the possible effects they might have on each other? Doesn't that mean that in fact they should've started with the sideflashes from the start?

- Michelle Rodriguez confirmed that she'll be back for one or two cameos. And slight spoiiler about things to come (though no specifics): Ausiello: If you were a fan of “The Constant,” then you’re going to love next week’s heart-shaped episode. And if you weren’t, you won’t. It’s that simple. In other news, the Grim Reaper will soon be making his move. And I’m hearing words like “bloodbath” and “mass casualties” being thrown around.

Random thought: does anyone remember torward the end of season 5 when Sun showed Richard a picture of her friends, he responded by saying he very clearly remembered them all because he watched them all die? What was that about?

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
I want answers too but the lack of answers isn't bothering me as much as the increasing likelihood that the sideways world is the epilogue. We haven't invested in those characters, it probably wouldn't be a satisfying ending to me even if the answers were given and made sense.
By the way, the producers strongly hinted in an audio podcast a few days ago that the next episode is going to have some kind of game changer. They said Desmond episodes always have been important and this one will be too. That could be just hype, we'll see.
I don't think that was too spoilery so I didn't use the tags.

Heh, I was just about to post that too. I read from different sources that the upcoming episode will change a lot in the way we view and discuss things.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
FUCKING SPOILERS FOR THE SERIES FINALEEEEEEEEDO NOT CLICK IF YOU DONT WANNA BE SPOILED!!!!!!!! YOU WERE WARNED SPOILERS!!!! Juliet will be revealed as David's mother in the finale. In the same episode, Juliet and Sawyer will share a deeply emotional and tender scene together in an alt/sideways. They will bump into each other at a hospital and won't recognize each other at first. However, it seems that their island memories will "bleed" over into the alt/sideways and they start to remember each other. They kiss. FUCK YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! I'm happy as fuck for that =D

Dr. Magnus wrote: Great episode. Though it does appear that the flash-sideways up to this point are indeed pointless as they are just a fantasy alt-timline that will eventually be eliminated.
The weird thing was at the end when Desmond just followed Sayid without any hesitation. Is Desmond just fully aware that he has no choice so he has to just go with the flow now? Actually, I disagree, I think this will be the real reality once what ever happens to the MIB. I thought it was a great episode too, really enjoyed it but of course have always loved Desmond's episodes.

Well I think something will happen to make it the real reality. I don't think they would have wasted our time with a fantasy reality.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
After that scene with Desmond asking Penny to coffee, I'm fully convinced this alternate reality will be the conclusion. Every person has a better life in this. Charlie doesn't have Claire, yes, but at least he's alive.
The part with Eloise was a bit confusing. Did she just hear the name Penny and think Desmond was snooping about Widmore's affair or does she know more??

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
Great episode! Man Desmond is so awesome. And seeing Daniel was cool as always. My two favorite characters! It'll be interesting what happens with him on and off the island. I have never trusted Eloise. Always sneaky! And she killed Daniel! Bitch. Not as good as the constant but no episode is.
Michael next week! I wonder if we will see more dead guys like eko or Libby cause it being a Hurley episode.

If the flash-sideways doesn't end up being more than a "what if?" scenario, than this season will be the worst yet.
