Seeing as how ALIAS' ratings have sunk low to almost previous ALIAS seasonal ratings, I don't think it's too safe anymore.
After all that advertisement, it only gave it a ratings boost for a month or so and it was on a depreciating curve the whole time.
With new episodes of LOST it's getting around 10-11 million, without fresh LOST it's sinking to 6-8 million.
That doesn't bode well. If it doesn't keep with consistent numbers, I think Season 5 will be it for ALIAS.
Remember its low ratings didn't matter before because it still seemed to be one of ABC's stable hits and perfect p[itches for the 18-49 demo.
But now the have LOST, Desperate Housewives, and Grey's Anatomy, and Home Make-over getting WAY more viewers than ALIAS and hitting higher demo figures too.
By the way, I hear or read that Abrams is working on 2 new pilots for ABC (one of which has the leading character played by Weiss from ALIAS, which means if it gets picked up, he'll have to be killed off th show). It's doubtful they'll pick up both of them for a grand total of 4 Abrams shows (sson becoming an ABC obsession like CSI or L&O) but if they do pick one of them at least, you guys think they'll go 3 for 3 on Wednesday Abrams nights???
Also, does anyone know when the Season Finale is going to air???
Will it be the week before, the week of (@ 10pm), or the week after the 2 hour LOST finale?

Greg Gunberg(WIESS) isn't going to die, he's JJ Abrams best buddy. Word it they will simply put him in a hospital being wounded or something until either his show is established or canceled. If canceled he'll be back on Alias.

I think thats tosh. You know as well as i do that Alias was doing amazingly well until American Idol came along.
What did ABC expect? Alias to hold up against AI? Dont you remember the days when West Wing had 16 million viewers +? Those days are long gone. The fact that the show increases in its second half, when Idol viewers switch network, certainly is an indicator as to how Alias can fend without Idol. It was a stupid idea to put the show that was shading on cancellation last year against Americas top rated show; the marketing was very effective in the non-idol episodes. But once you have a show biting 24 million viewers out of the tv viewing audience its pretty tough to stand up against to that. I think Alias fans are now looking for some kind of bad news; i mean every year we fret over a next season.
This year however weve been confirmed our first early return. That means everyone can rest easy. But nope. Alias fans now look FORWARD a year and are certain cancellation is on the horizon. Why cant they just watch the show and enjoy it?
Pulling "Alias" from the schedule could be a very costly and dumb mistake for ABC. Its still one of the top 25 /30 shows in network television. Which compared to last years un-boastworthy 50th and lower certainly is an improvement. For ABC thats still very impressive and well within its top 10 shows. Why would you cancel something that not only has an international market, but also sells shitloads of merchandise and notably DVDs too? Why would you cancel a show which the MEDIA percieves as a hit. Do you ever hear TV Guide calling "Alias" an unsure thing? Nope. Its "Hit Spy Drama Alias" Why would you axe the only original drama that kept your network afloat until you found a season of superhits? Why oh Why would you cancel the show from the man who MADE the superhit? JJ Abrams?

 Mission Accomplished
From Entertainment Weekly:
Four Reasons why alias is Back in Business
Alias' ratings are up, but die-hard fans of the ABC spy series (airing Wednesdays at 9 p.m.) have been griping about its identity crisis. Until now. Just when it seemed to turn into a procedural drag, Aliasmasterminds have pulled a fast one over the last few weeks, with plot moves that'll satisfy neophytes and devotees alike.
Vaughn goes rogue The droopy-dog agent (Michael Vartan) finally got some edge with his off-the-grid mission. Extra points for the revelation in the April 13 episode that his turn to the dark side was for naught: His dad isn'tsecretly alive. (Let's save the dead-character-revival allotment for Lena Olin as Sydney's duplicitous mom.)
Jack goes mutant Spy Daddy Jack (Victor Garber) needed to soften up, and saving daughter Syd (Jennifer Garner) by exposing himself to nuclear radiation  thus acquiring a genetic mutation  did the trick.
Marshall gets some action Going to Cuba to dig up a buried-alive Syd, Marshall (Kevin Weisman) gave the show two gifts: more humor and a return to hiding the day job from a loved one, in this case his wife. Which got us thinking. . .Syd needs a friend on the outside again. Our suggestion: a rotating cast of Craigslist roommates.
A second Sloane appears! How great is Joel Grey as an impostor version of Ron Rifkin's reformed bad guy, Arvin Sloane? The same beady eyes. The same hollow cheeks. The same nihilism. Turns out he's the one screwing with everyone's lives, to which we say, ''Screw on, sir!'' It was the biggest Oh. My. God. of the season. So far. (Posted:04/25/05)

The Master of Ceremonies from Cabaret playing fake Sloane is just awesome!

Yeah and Jack Brystow is played by Jesus from Godspell.
How come no one mentioned laura? Jack said he had two daughters, Sydney and Laura. Was that previously known? First I've heard of it.

My Two girls...Sydney and Laura.
Laura...you know...Irina's alias.
At least that's what I assumed.

Yeah I posted that while 2/3 through the episode and then they explain the laura/irina thing, oops. When he said my 2 girls, I thought maybe they were hinting at some new daughter twist.

Words cannot describe what I am feeling right now.
I cannot express how elated I am feeling.
The 9pm hour was AMAZING and I am halfway through the 10pm episode. The second I saw Irina in the opening sequence of the episode, it was all over.
These 2 hours make the past 2 seasons worth it.
And for all those who believed that Rambaldi was never the focus of the show, the essence of the show, wait till you watch the end of season 4.
This is one of the greatest nghts in television. Best of LOST and ALIAS bests of the season!

I know some people are going to say it was just too contrived.
It was too cheasy. It was too over the top.
But I'll be damned if that wasn't the best 3 hours of television I have seen in a LONG time.
Just seeing Irina in the black top she changed into was worth the 2 year wait.
Reflecting back (of course I have re-watch it all on DVD to actually make my final thoughts on Season 4) I am actually gonna cave a little and say Season 4 was really not that bad.
I was so blinded by the fact that I was so frustrated that they put Rambaldi and everything on hold that I didn't realize most of the first half of the season was pretty good. We did have ALOT of great stand-alone episodes, the Russian community one, Marshal saves the Day, I also liked the one with Nadia's flashbacks.
But this night turned everything around. They actually managed to write themselves out of the big dilemma of incorporating Irina back into the story especially when they got her o sign on right when they seemed to be eading toward a fresh direction.
There is also 1 scene that really made my day/week/month and that was seeing the Sienna flashback. Some posters might remember me bitching about the fact that they left out details and the significnce of that trip when we entered Season 4 and I finally got what I wanted. The Jack/Irina flashback was just a bonus I didn't deserve because I doubted it.
I know I have laid many doubts about ALIAS, even posted them on this or the very previous page of this thread as recently as last week, and I'm not saying this night gave me a different outlook, but it certainly gave me hope that my ALIAS is back, exactly what I love about it.
I'm still keenly interested in where in the world they are going with this plotline.
This makes all the more reason to get pissed at ABC for switching it to Thursdays at 8.
So, anyone else catch it?

Best Alias episode since season 2.
How great is to have Sonia Braga, Isabella Rosellini, and Lena Olin playing sisters on the same show

I was telling my brother that it will be inevitable to have an episode next season with all three sisters side by side on a mission or something.
I agree best episode ALIAS since Season 2, though the Season 3 finale comes pretty close too. I can't wait for the finale, which I will see in over 3 weeks since I'm leaving for Armenia the day of the finale!!!

That episode was freaking BRILLIANT! Loved every minute of it. But I'm pretty sure that Nadia and Irina will be leaving us next week, which sucks since they are 2 of the best characters on the show.

Was Irina saying that Nadia is Jack's daughter or that Nadia takes after her?

Unrealism like big giant red balls over eastern europe or helix protocol clones don't bother me. What bothers me is unrealism like someone being tortured in solitary confinement for months or longer, and then 12 hours after release they are game for more adventure. After what Irina had been through I expected her character to need years of quiet recovery. At the very least months.
It was weird seeing Vaughn and Syd kiss, they don't do that often and for good reason. For him it must be like kissing an over inflated michelin tire.

Cliffhangers rock. Btw Ripper; i guess your brief affair with Alias was not to be.

Does anyone else think that the obsession with their daughters by fathers on this show is borderline incestuous? Mainly with Sloane, with the way he acts when he talks to Nadia. And he's always saying stuff like "you're so beautiful, I'm so proud of you." What would he say if she were ugly? "You need to apply your makeup better, then I'll be more proud of you."?
And ya know, if I was a woman and my bf asked my father's approval before he proposed, I'd be pissed off. Vaughn needed to be more of a man and just talk to Sydney about it, it's only between them, f*** her father.
Having said all that, the show was better than recent episodes, it moved, stuff really happened, that was all good.

Alas, it was not, I don;t bother with taping shows that come on while i have school, nor do I download them, so its move to Thursdays is teh final nail in my Alias Coffin.
Don't you mean season 5?
