This...no.

I liked last night's episode otherwise, though male Karen (Jeremy Jordan) is kind of insufferable.

Sheesh, even the opening credits is an insufferable rip-off of Chicago's end credits.

Why do they insist in making Anjelica Huston look like a disheveled drag queen?

0.9 demo rating last night. The question now is when NBC pulls the plug and how do they burn off the rest of the season.

Fare thee well, Smash!

I haven't even started Season 2 after its ratings because it's not looking good for renewal. The Voice returns in a month. They should almost take a break until then :P. Make it a Betty White night or something and air original Off Their Rockers and then repeats. Those would likely do better than a new Smash, sorry to say. Will the Tuesday schedule be like this then: The Voice, Go On, The New Normal, Smash? I sure hope so. These shows could use that boost. Go On and The New Normal have struggled without it.

I actually like this season thus far, flaws and all. Even though I find Jimmy kind of insufferable as a character. Last night's episode was solid.

I watched 5 minutes of last night's episode and wanted to scream into a pillow or something. Do not regret my decision to stop watching.

It's not that bad :P The biggest problem it has is the fact that Karen is an incredibly unappealing main character. If they focused a whole lot less on her I think it would be more tolerable.

Random observation but I think the absolute disaster Smash has been throughout its beleaguered run is going to be, like, studied by pop culture analysts for years to come.

How much money did NBC and co. flush down the drain retooling this show for its second season?

Showrunner Josh Safran just said that the last episode was structured as a series finale.

Last night's episode was OK. Sean Hayes/Megan Hilty were the best parts, the Karen and Jimmy romance continues to be incredibly boring though their last song for "Hit List" was probably the best song they've showcased so far from that show :P I guess good for Ivy that she's finally going to get to play Marilyn - she's easily the most likable character on the series at this point.

I'll watch this until the end. It's still fairly entertaining to me (even if more than a few times its because of the trainwreck quality of it all) and I want to see where it goes.

My friend who still watches this says that Sean Hayes never shared a single scene with Debra Messing while he was guest starring.

This show can't even do random guest star/cast member reunions right.

That is correct. He only had scenes with Megan Hilty.

Krysta Rodriguez's big number at the benefit tonight was gorgeous to watch and one of the highlights of the series so far. I actually enjoyed most of tonight's episode, honestly.

I was so glad that in Saturday's episode Karen was told that she was being a huge bitch and wasn't as great as she thinks she is :P It was refreshing since everyone has been thinking that since day one.

This actually had a really nice wrap-up episode last night. It offered a fair amount of closure for any fans and quite a few scenes were very well-done. I liked the "Under Pressure" musical number that kicked off the final episode. Also, Ivy actually won the Tony over Karen! It almost made up for the series trying to shove Katherine McPhee down our throats for two years :P And Megan Hilty remained the series' most consistent performer and her acceptance speech was actually touching.

Smash season two didn't have to end up this bad. After all, they fired the crappy characters. So what happened? They subsequently wrote the Jimmy character, a pitiful creation, worse than all of the season one driftwood combined. After the doctor removes the tumor you aren't supposed to start smoking, Smash!

So earlier this month the cast of this show (basically everyone that was involved appeared) reunited for a one-night only 'concert' staging of Bombshell as a benefit for the Actor's Fund in NYC. After receiving rave reviews, NBC and Universal Pictures announced today that it is now being developed as a full-blown Broadway musical.

http://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Br ... w-20150622

Quote:
Following the explosive and well-received Actors Fund benefit that featured the music of "Bombshell" from the NBC television series "Smash," Universal Stage Productions has begun development on "Bombshell" as a musical for the stage.

The announcement was made by Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, and Jimmy Horowitz, President of Universal Pictures, who run Universal Stage Productions together.

In the wake of the June 8 benefit concert, the New Yorker proclaimed "Bombshell" "the best Broadway musical that doesn't exist," and the New York Post said, "Technically there was never a Marilyn Monroe musical, but after a production like this, maybe there should be."

"There is a still a lot of love for 'Smash' and a rabid fan base out there, and we're thrilled to be able to keep the dream alive as we work towards bringing 'Bombshell' to theatre audiences," said Greenblatt. "'Smash' was ambitious because every episode was a complicated musical for television and we also built the foundation of the musical-within-the-musical about Marilyn's endlessly fascinating and tumultuous life. Over the course of two seasons an entire 'Bombshell' score was written to service 'Smash' storylines, and now that show will have a chance to stand on its own."

"We are so thrilled that 'Smash' isn't over and that 'Bombshell' gets to live on," said Craig Zadan, who, along with partner Neil Meron, will serve as the lead producers of "Bombshell." "The Emmy-nominated songs by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, including the iconic 'Let Me Be Your Star,' are every bit the caliber of their Tony- and Grammy-winning Broadway work. The Actors Fund benefit reinforced how alive this material is on stage and how much the audience wants to see the Marilyn Monroe musical in its entirety."

Added Meron: "As life imitates art, Joshua Bergasse, our brilliant Emmy-winning choreographer from 'Smash,' actually made his Broadway debut this season as a choreographer and was nominated for a Tony Award. Now he will get the chance to reimagine his exhilarating 'Bombshell' dances for the theatre."

Steven Spielberg had long wanted to develop a series about the making of a Broadway musical and "Smash" was that idea come to life. He was the executive producer of the series and will be involved in the new stage production of "Bombshell." A book writer will be announced shortly.

Shaiman and Wittman, also executive producers of the series, will continue on "Bombshell" with Shaiman serving as composer and co-lyricist and Wittman as co-lyricist. Their Broadway successes include "Hairspray," "Catch Me If You Can" (based on the film directed by Spielberg) and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," which is currently running in London's West End and will arrive on Broadway in the future.

"Whether watching the 'Smash' cast at the benefit at the Minskoff Theatre or hearing teenagers across the world on YouTube, it's been thrilling for us to hear our songs so embraced and performed so phenomenally," said Shaiman and Wittman. "We can't wait to see what happens next."

Meron and Zadan, who functioned as executive producers of the series and also produced the Actors Fund "Bombshell" concert, have been involved in a string of hit film and television musicals, including movie adaptations of "Hairspray" and the Oscar-winning "Chicago," as well as NBC's live events "The Sound of Music," "Peter Pan" and the upcoming production of "The Wiz." They have also produced successful Broadway revivals of "Promises, Promises" and "How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying."

Joshua Bergasse will serve as choreographer for "Bombshell." His work on "Smash" earned him an Emmy and this past season he was Tony-nominated for the Broadway revival of Bernstein and Comden & Green's "On the Town." He was also the choreographer of the recent Broadway revival of "Gigi," starring Vanessa Hudgens.

Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank, executive producers of "Smash" and co-presidents of Amblin Television, will also be involved as producers of "Bombshell."

No casting has been announced and no one from the cast of "Smash" is involved in the stage musical at this point.

"Bombshell" is based on the television series "Smash," which was created by Theresa Rebeck. "Smash" is a production of Universal Television.

Chris Herzberger will serve as the executive for Universal Stage Productions, the live theatre division of the world-famous motion picture studio that produces theatrical hits ranging from the record-breaking musical phenomenon "Wicked" and Best Musical "Billy Elliot" to the acclaimed revival of "The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess" and "Bring It On: The Musical."
