I have a bit more faith in the show now. Rob Thomas (of Veronica Mars) is executive producer. and i'm glad Brenda is back. I luv a bitchy Shannen Doherty. a big cast.

He was supposed to write the pilot. But The CW found some other guy to do it. Sigh.

harry713 -- I LOVE that you posted that cover! It is SO amazing. They both look great and I just can't wait to see what unfolds! 9.02---counting down. I read somewhere that Kelley is going to have a little boy! Who could the father be??

^ I actually read that it is possibly Dylan's baby and that they are working to get Luke Perry to guest star on the show later this season.

For old times sake, lets watch the wonderfully dated and sometimes comical opening credit sequences (a total thing of the past, at least in this capacity) from a few different years:

Season 4:

Season 6 (version 1):

Here is one with all the cast members throughout the years combined:

I haven't decided if I'm going to watch the pilot yet.

I was a huge 90210 fan back in the day (because, I mean, everyone was when I was a teenager).

But this seems a little...strange. So far.

Despite the presences of Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty, which will inevitably create nostalgia (and Lori Loughlin also amps up the nostalgia, considering how much I used to love Full House). And it does have Jessica Walter, which is awesomely random.

But I don't know.

Interestingly, this marks Rob Estes' third character in the Beverly Hills, 90210 continuity (two different roles in the first spin-off, Melrose Place and now as the principal in 90210 lol).

You should watch the pilot just to see if you like it, Libs. I've read it's really good. If 90210 is just half as good as Gossip Girl is, we're in for something awesome.

From: http://www.variety.com/article/VR111799 ... id=14&cs=1

Quote:
As the networks kick their fall TV marketing efforts into high gear post-Labor Day, they've got their work cut out for them.

Just two new series -- the dusted-off franchises "Knight Rider" and "90210" -- are registering much awareness so far among TV auds.

Last year at this time, at least 10 freshman skeins had already scored more than 20% awareness among auds. But this year, just six new entries are so far hitting that benchmark, according to the latest fall tracking reports.

TV auds are more clued into NBC's "Knight Rider" than any other new show so far. More than 60% of viewers are aware that the action series is zooming back into primetime -- perhaps no surprise, given the talking car franchise's place in pop culture history.

Close behind -- at just under 60% -- is the CW's "90210."

Given CW's ratings woes, the netlet picked up "90210" partly because of its built-in awareness. And indeed, it has been able to take full advantage of the "90210's" lasting 1990s legacy (not to mention fascination over which former cast members are returning).

With no similar history to fall back on, the rest of this fall's new series don't even come close to matching that pair's awareness.

NBC's new laffer "Kath & Kim" is familiar to about 25% of TV auds, while CBS' "The Mentalist," NBC's "My Own Worst Enemy" and ABC's "Opportunity Knocks" hover at 21%. Everything else, at least as of late August, was below 20%.

The Beijing Summer Olympics may be partly to blame for the weak awareness numbers so far, as the two-week event appeared to both blunt the promos of rival nets and give NBC fare a slight boost (Daily Variety, Aug. 26). More than one option
(Co) Daily Variety
Filmography, Year, Role
(Co) Daily Variety

Another summer of weak broadcast ratings is also to blame, as the nets are forced to promote to a smaller circulation of viewers. It's no wonder TV execs keep revisiting old titles: When it's tough to break through the clutter from cable, the Internet and other sources, at least "Knight Rider" and "90210" came with a built-in awareness.

But before the folks behind "Knight Rider" and "90210" get too excited, it's worth noting that last year at this time, the Peacock's "Bionic Woman" redux led all awareness studies -- thanks again to the original series' enduring impact. "Bionic" quickly fizzled after its launch. (Similarly in 2000, the heralded "The Fugitive" -- another quick flop -- topped the chart.)

And while various controversies juiced awareness last year for CBS' reality skein "Kid Nation" and ABC's laffer "Cavemen," those two series bit the dust.

Network execs have to take awareness studies with a grain of salt: They're worth measuring whether audiences are dissecting your marketing message -- but aren't a good gauge of whether auds will actually show up. So many factors can skew those numbers that their usefulness is open to debate.

That's where the "intent to view" measurement comes in. Awareness of Fox's "Fringe" may still be low, but among those viewers who've heard of the show, "intent to view" is high -- a testament, perhaps, to sci-fi devotees and fans of exec producer J.J. Abrams.

Among viewers aware that "Fringe" exists, a solid 52% say they're "definitely" or "more than likely" planning on tuning in. Just below "Fringe," a full 45% of auds familiar with CBS' Simon Baker entry "The Mentalist" said they planned to check it out, while "My Own Worst Enemy" was next, with 37%.

Last month NBC Agency topper Jon Miller told Variety that he's usually happy if, by launch, at least 40% of the viewing audience is aware of a show and 40% of that crowd intends to view said show -- meaning at least 16% of the TV aud will likely tune in. At 62% awareness and 34% intent to view, "Knight Rider" actually comes closest to that goal of any fall show.

No wonder Knight Rider and 90210 have the highest awareness. Especially Knight Rider considering it basically already premiered last season with the movie.

I'll say it. 90210 premiere will double the Gossip Girl premiere. :shades:

No way. I would love it if you were right, but on The CW? I don't know about that. It would be downright AMAZING if it did. I know I'll certainly be interested in seeing how it did when the ratings come out on Wednesday. It would be nice if The CW could have a huge hit.

There was a time when 7m was doable for The WB. I hope the "new and improved" CW can get back there.

I think 7th Heaven holds the record for the most watched episode on WB for over 12 million viewers. So CW is definitely capable of big numbers because it has a bigger coverage than UPN or WB had. It just needs a great show with really good ratings to build around. Starting off mostly from WB/UPN shows with built in audience wasn't a really good idea after all.

If UPN managed to get 7 million for Everybody Hates Chris premiere, CW shouldn't have a problem getting that for 90210. That was the last time WB/UPN/CW has the most buzzed about new show of the year. And 90210 should also benefit from high curiosity factor.

Ummmm so I watched it

It was...OK, I guess. It was really cliched and predictable, which I guess I expected.

A few of the characters were kind of annoying. Brenda 2.0 (Annie?) kind of got on my nerves. And the girl playing the bitch (Naomi?) looked like she was 40 years old.

Speaking of that, did anyone else laugh hysterically when the teacher told Hannah Zuckerman-Vasquez she looked 30? Because, you know. Gabrielle Carteris was flipping 29 years old when she started playing Andrea back in the old days.

Of the new teens, I did find the Silver girl (Kelly's half-sister) somewhat interesting. Oh, and of course, the incomparable Jessica Walter as Tabitha. I love how she played her no differently than she did Lucille Bluth.

It was nice to see Kelly and Brenda (what a trip, that character hasn't existed on screen since 1994) again. Hello, nostalgia.

Oh, and I was not impressed with the new coffee house Peach Pit. Poor Nat.

I wasn't. Apparently Prison Break is more of a family show than 90210, considering 90210 beat PB slightly in households, but lost more than 1.5 in viewers compared to PB. Weird. When households were out I fully expected 90210 to be somewhat on par with PB in viewers.

Christian -- I read online that it did surpass Gossip Girl's premiere numbers! That is so exciting. I think the show really lived up to the original. I love the new cast and I think Rob Estes and Lori Loughlin really bring an extra something to the show. Love the old school Peach Pit and the theme music. Can't wait until this Tuesday!

Did anyone watch last night? I don't want to give it away, but OMG -- the father of Kelly's baby! I am so excited, but hope it doesn't interfere with her and the English teacher hottie! The cast is really growing on me and I find myself on the edge of my seat at every episode. I can definitely feel that this is just the beginning of a great series!
