Not sure if you Family Guy fans can answer me this question. I know a few people who loved Family Guy(I dont know why it tries to be funny but it isnt) also hate King of the Hill with a passion. Its quite the opposite for me. Was it because King of the Hill is more conservative compared to the liberal humor of Family guy

define hate

i hate it cause i think its meant to be funny but i don't find it funny.

not because i think its jokes dont work (which is your case with family guy) but because i watch an entire episode and wonder what the funny "bits" were suppose to be.

honestly, the show to me just runs as some random story thats taking place .. nothing more. and i do find certain characters extremely annoying.

I thought it was hilarious. It was very similar to family guy, but since family guy is one of the best shows on TV, I don't see any problem with American Dad being similar to it. I found Roger to be the most entertaining character, and I hope they don't run out of ideas for him anytime soon. They can't make Alien and E.T. references forever.

I thought the show was o.k at best. The animation was extremely poor. The mom's face looked horrible. The alien exploding the green ooze was sophomoric.

Only worthwhile character was the American Dad himself; whatever the hell his real name is.

Stan Smith is the dad's name.

el_masked: Going with bABA here. I never understood when King of the Hill was trying to be funny. I mean I don't hate the show (I have one of the DVD sets), but I don't ever remember a time where I laughed out loud watching King of the Hill. It's more of a show that you watch to enjoy some time watching TV.

Also, it's not just "reefers and internet nerds". Almost everyone I know loves Family Guy. I haven't ever met someone who hated it, like you appear to. What gets me is your Simpsons avatar, when The Simpsons have continued to decline in quality over the past few years, and I've noticed a few Family Guy-esque moments in the show. I'm not saying they're trying to rip it off, but... if I was Matt Groening with a 16-year old show slowly fading away, competing for laughs with a fresh new show producing a few laughs a minute, I would try to make a few subtle jokes like that show, too. How you can not watch an episode of Family Guy and not laugh out laugh at least a dozen times is mind-boggling. But, to each his own. I'll take Family Guy over The Simpsons, especially with the newer episodes of Homer and Co.

Mr. X I love both Family Guy and The Simpsons but if either one is ripping anyone off it's Family Guy to The Simpsons.

On Amercian Dad I thought it was hilarious. "Oh thought I had to fart." Priceless. I also like the fish but the alien seems a bit annoying.

And King of the Hill sucks. \:D/

Hah which is why Family Guy has been cancelled so many times that I lost track of it. That tells me that its only a minority of people who love it mainly internet nerds and reefers. No matter what you say about King of the Hill, it has better ratings than Family Guy and doesnt try to lean on pop culture reference as much as Family Guy. I think the bad youthful portrayals of King of the Hill must of hit a nerve  and its family values too.

Say what you will about the Simpsons but I was able to sit through the worst episode of the Simpsons than any episode of the Family Guy. You know what Family Guy reminds me of. Remember that Simpsons episode of Poocey the Rocking Dog that they tried to lump in with Itchy and Stratchy. Well Family Guy is that Poocey Dog and sure acts that way with its multiple cancellations

I repeat, it's NOT just "reefers and internet nerds", even if that does make up a large portion of the population, sadly. And, check out some ratings for King of the Hill and Family Guy from a few weeks back, when King of the Hill was NEW and Family Guy was the same repeats that most people have seen multiple times already. I'll go back to check it out, and I guarantee the margin isn't as far off as you would think.

I think your main problem with Family Guy is the numerous "in-jokes" that the show has, focusing in on pop-culture a lot. That would explain a lot, especially your comment about American Dad and the Memento line. And again, to each his own. Most adult-animated shows are good or great, with a few exceptions (Father of the Pride = Worst show of the year).

13. "Family Guy" (R, FOX) - 4.5/6
15. "King of the Hill" (FOX) - 3.7/6

Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

13. "King of the Hill" (FOX) - 3.6/5
14. "Family Guy" (R, FOX) - 3.2/5

I wasn't able to find ratings for the 16th. Anyway, as you can see, even a repeat of an episode of Family Guy that probably everyone has seen could beat a new episode of King of the Hill. I'm not saying KOTH sucks, because it can be a fun show to watch, but clearly it's not as popular as you would think.

Once new episodes kick in, I'll be anxious to see what ratings it pulls. It may do really well, or may just do the same as The Simpsons. And, if you're a ratings expert, you'll probably defend Hank Hill by saying the timeslot (7pm EST) is unfair and sucks, and it's the reason why the show isn't doing better. Well, one can argue that (Futurama fans will know that), but if the show was as great as you would think, it would find an audience anytime. That's what plagued Futurama, but the fact is Futurama just never caught on like The Simpsons.

I have an easy excuse because King of the Hill has been buried too many times since they were sometimes taken off the air and then new episodes havent aired for 2 months. I dont think Fox has played such dirty politics as the other unfunny fat guy(no not Homer Simpson). It also helps that Family Guy airs right after the Simpsons.

Its a shame they cancelled Futurama, that I agree with was buried by the networks

At least we can agree on Futurama. That was a real shame. King of the Hill has not been burried too many times, either. Even when it had a short stint after The Simpsons, it would lose a sizeable portion of the viewers. King of the Hill has ALWAYS been on at 7:30, this is the first year it's been on at 7 instead. I believe it was last year that it aired after Simpsons for a short time, but don't quote me on it. And, Family Guy does not air after The Simpsons. Those reruns aired opposite Desperate Housewives (what's King of the Hill's worst competition? American's Funniest Home Videos? Dateline? 60 Minutes), and it comes on after the tragically underperforming Arrested Development.

Roid.

a few things

Family guy has only been canned once. And its one of the only shows ever that have been asked for back on the air by the networks after this duration of time.

BTTF: Maybe you haven't seen the Simpsons lately. They've ripped off Family guy's entire episodes and have made a few very nasty remarks about it as well. I can only think of 2 or 3 episodes where family guy has done this.

Truth is, family guy is a show that stands on its own grounds .. its simpson's similarity thing is something thats only worked against it which is why they try to stay away from it to begin with. There was a very interesting article with Seth where he spoke about this.

this isn't the internet thing. cept for my gf who "sits" through family guy only for me, everyone i know absolutely absolutely loves this show or finds it stupid funny. the net and the older people are th eonly ones i know who don't like family guy.

I said AND REEFERS too damnit, Baba. Internet AND REEFERS dang it.
Im not sure which episode of the Simpsons you are referring to but there have been unfunny Simpson episodes that were aired this year and 2 years ago. The worst has to be the one with REM. As far as Family Guy's popularity, I believe its the more vocal fans that made it seem more popular than it in the same way as Buffy the Vampire Slayer is shared with only a cult full of people but they are one of the most vocal crowd

Speaking of The Simpsons, I thought they were in rare form last night.

Anytime Homer and Ned team up, it's always very funny.

See? Everyone loves the show. NOT just internet nerds and reefers, either. If BTTF can't continously make references to King of the Hill, you can nix those references, too. Can you NOT accept being in the minority? It's a tough one, I've went through it... well.. always. But, you can perservere! You've got 8 seasons of Hank Hill and 16 of Homer to console you for now. Us Peter fans only got 50 episodes right now.

Hows the Elektra fan club working out, El Presidente Elektra numero uno fan?

Dang majority would mean that Family Guy would of had higher ratings than American Idol. Yes those ratings are rigged!!! Family Guy is more famous than Sponge Bob and a movie about it will make 300 million dollars! Unless Fox(yes in the distant future Fox WILL own theaters) theaters cancel the theaters it carries like in RL with tv

I'll learn to take criticism for King of the Hill in exchange I will mock the Family Guy

How Elektra was morphed into a support post for this tiff i will never understand, but im in the Elektra club :P

Anyway, King of the Hill is nowhere near as popular globally as The Simpsons or even Family Guy. IMHO King of the Hill is boring anyway so...

In the UK, the rundown in term of fans, media profile and ratings is like
1. The Simpsons
2. Family Guy
3. Futurama
4. King of the Hill

The only time they show King of the Hill is latenight really at like 3am. And no wonder, the comedy is catatonic. Family Guy is good, cynical fun - although i prefer Futurama. But being a fan of The Simpsons since i was like 4 years old its always been my favourite.I really think Homer gets funnier with every show.

Well I love Family Guy, but this was kind of lame. Some similar funny jokes, but the only characters I think they can go anywhere with are the daughter and the dad, everyone else seemed really one dimensional or bland.

Futurama and the Simpsons WERE NOT THE SAME. You people and your fantastical opinions. And the reason is was canceled was because it had the worst time slot in the history of television. Even worse than friday nights.

American Dad is the same as Family Guy, though, but not as good. The fish is horrible, and the alien isnt very funny either.

Homer is funniest when he pretends to be much dumber.

Last week's Moe's Tavern episode when he talked to Marge about caring for the kids or when he went to see a financial planner. =D>
