I think I laughed the hardest when they showed Ted and Blah-Blah meeting in World of Warcraft, and Ted was like the female animated character and Blah-Blah was the big giant monster thing.

I also enjoyed "eating a sandwich," Barney's crazy/hot scale ("Approaching Shelly Gillespie levels...who gained 20 pounds and tried to kill me with a brick"), and how Blah-Blah was insanely insane ("What do you think of that, Robin? Have you sold anything in Japan?")

That was the funniest one of the season so far.

Hey! That was quite funny!

They're also doing some interesting things within the multi-camera format, which is much-appreciated.

Was that the first episode you've seen?

I watched the pilot two years ago, enjoyed it, but have not seen more than bits and pieces in the intervening two years.

I think I'll try to catch it from now on. It's hard to bitch about a lack of quality shows if one is willing to overlook something this funny.

But....is it always that sharp and funny or did I just pick a good week to watch?

I think it's always amazing, but Monday's was particularly good.

Technically it's a single-camera show (Hence the massive time jumps, narration and frequent freeze frames), but it's filmed like a multi-camera show with a laugh track as to blend in with the other CBS comedies. Not that it's helped much in the ratings. :glare:

Post Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 3 (Suit up!)
Well, no, it's still a multi-camera show. It's shot live (one taping night) on a sitcom stage with multiple cameras catching the action. Single-Camera means there's just one camera shooting the action, as in a film. Whether or not an audience is present is irrelevant. The elements you mentioned (time jumps, narration, freeze frames) are what I thought was so refreshing. There's no reason that the classic multi-camera format can't incorporate fun elements like that...they just usually don't. But HIMYM uses tricks we associate with one camera shows (like Arrested Development) and it frees up the show for funnies. They're openng up what can be done with the format, and if people would pay attention, it could revive a dying form.

I think there's a perception in some places that single-camera means no audience, and multi-camera the opposite. Not true.

Don't believe me? Ask the emmys HIMYM has won:
Outstanding Cinematography for a Multi-Camera Series
Outstanding Art Direction for a Multi-Camera Series

I stuck with it. And it was funny, if not up to the heights of last week.

For some reason, the description of the Kobe beef lobsters is still making me laugh.

"Lance Hardwood: Sex Architect, starring Ted Mosby"

I also loved Robin's flubbed reaction to hearing that "Ted Mosby" has starred in 125 pornos in 6 months ("He's like the new Jude Law...what?...okay, I know Jude Law isn't really in movies anymore, but two years ago, you couldn't go anywhere without seeing him!")

That was classic. This show is great, I need to catch up on the other season. Also, the txting between washroom breaks

Dowistrepla. Hee.

I enjoyed the CSI: Marshall and Lily's Fight bit, especially Ted putting on the sunglasses ala David Caruso.

Tonight was hilarious. Up there with "How I Met Everyone Else" for the best episode of the season.

The "illusion shattering" thing is really so true. One friend recently pointed out to me that another one of our friends says "Hmm" like 500 times a day. When she said that, it was "literally" (heh) like glass shattered and I started noticing it all the time.

That's why I love this show. It reminds me of goofy things I do with my own friends.

And I guess I'm evil, because I now want to see "a dog pooping on a baby."

Everything about the slap bet on this show is hysterical. It also pleases me how this is one of very few sitcoms I've seen that actually maintain consistent nods to continuity (the "Slap Bet" episode really did air almost exactly a year ago).

Orson Bean as the "Crypt Keeper's dad"/41-year-old Bob was also brilliant.

I appreciated they acknowledged Ted and Robin being friends isn't the kind of thing that's easy or unawkward. Because that kind of thing is not. But I'm glad they seem to be real friends now.

I want an MP3 of Marshall's "You Just Got Slapped" song. When Barney was adding in the moans in the background, I about died.

That episode was hilarious. The Ted and Robin awkward relationship is very authentic I felt, and resolved nicely. Also as Libs mentioned, the continuinty of the show, from whatever happaned in past seasons is nice. I need to buy the first two, this show is life.

Jason Segal is turning into a solid comedic actor. I didn't like him much when the show first started, but he's gotten lots better, plus he was gold in Knocked Up.

I had no idea Jason Segal was on this show.

I'm hoping to get Seasons 1 and 2 for Christmas. It's sort of a blind buy (I watched the pilot and nothing more). Hopefully the rave reviews here aren't wrong.

This show should be so much bigger than it is, it could be the new Friends. I love the show honestly but if they tinkered it just a smidge and promoted it so much more it could be huge. I do not know why this isn't taking off.

It's important to note that the show starts off well, but not spectacularly. I remember only watching it in its first series because i just thought it was 'lovely'. A show I liked watching mainly for the actors, some likeable characters and the lovely warm feeling it occasionally gave me inside. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely laughs in the first series, but it was never consistently hilarious.

The second series was a big improvement, but it's only been since the beginning of the current series that I think the show's really come into its own funny-wise. The characters are so well-defined now, the actors are comfortable playing them, and the writers have stepped up their game exponentially. At the moment I think it's probably the best sitcom on the air. The Office be damned (although I do still love The Office)!

Still, it's probably good to watch the first series just so you can fall in love with the characters and keep up with recurring plot points and continuing storylines.

Welcome aboard X-y!

The Victoria's Secret episode was great. That Barney character gets funnier with each episode. It's a shame more people don't watch this show.

I'm tempted to call this my favorite comedy on TV right now, its nearly a dead heat between it and Scrubs. So far this season I have yet to be the least bit disappointed by any episode.
