Chandler was the best one although Friends as a comedy was decidedly average.

I wasn't the biggest Ross fan in the early seasons, but I agree. Same with Jennifer Aniston. Both she and Schwimmer got hilarious in later seasons. If you look at season 1 and compare it to say, season 9, it's crazy how much better their comic timing is.

Chandler and Phoebe were still great, though. I always liked Monica, but she was never one of my favorites. Same with Joey, though he was the only one who ever really bugged me.

I loved Chandler in the early series', but he very slowly stopped being funny. I'm not sure if it was Matthew Perry losing his touch, or the writers running out of witty lines for him to say.

This thread reminds me of how much I miss this show.

I'd have to agree with Snrub and Dkmuto that both Schwimmer and Anniston became amazing physical comedians. the difference is that they made Ross stupider while doing so and they made Rachel much funnier and less erious (stupider too but that was the storylines not the character writing).

One of my favorite scenes in Friends is when Rachel is asking Joshua (Josh-oo-a--lol) to marry him. Her body movements are just hillarious when put togther with her dialogue. I think once the Ross and Rachel thing stopped being serious and turned into a joke is when they both excelled comedically but the show kinda went the opposite direction in overall quality even though every season had at least a few stand out episodes and I think Season 7 was actually the Friends Golden Year- it was an amazing surge of comedy in that season (monica's candy, Pheobies cookies, the cheescake, Rache's erotica, Ross and Monica's cousin-Ross's daze when she does her hair thing, rosita)

Chandler. He was just the greatest Friend throughout the whole series. Phoebe was the one who I hated the most. Hate is probably too strong a word, but I did dislike her. Joey tried to hard, and after the first few seasons, after he started to get fat and lost his good looks, his character to me became unbelievable and I started disliking him. I'd rank them as follows...

I loved Pheobe. She actually made me cry.
