I don't generally insult people that try to sing, as I know it takes a lot of work everyday, but Ashlee Simpson is pretty damn awful.

That really was an awful performance(s) on her part. It isn't the general Ashley bias that everyone has to boo her first, but I just don't think they were great or even good performances.

I thought her first performance was okay, but the second one was just embarassing.

As for the rest of the show, it seemed to get better as it went along. The final two sketches along with the commercial at the end were the funniest things about the show. And now i have to jump on the bandwagon for hating Hartio Sanz on Weekend Update. He laughs at all of the jokes before the delivery which ruins it most of the time. However, he did have the best joke on Update, with the chemo and cancer joke.

With Horatio on Weekend Update, you really see how horrible it could ACTUALLY be. While I don't think Fey and Poehler are the best, I appreciate them more now than I did last year.

Horatio sucks on Weekend Update. I appreciate Fey/Amy sooooo much more now as said above. Did anyone else think Ashlee Simpson looked like an ugly Swedish viking-lady? That haircut was absolutely terrible. So ugly compared to what she normally looks like.

Best part of the show:

"Hey Amy, you wearing a bra?"

"Yeah."

"What the hell for?"

I think Horatio knows he's not that great. He's much better with the slapstick than with the wicked stuff of Weekend Update. Fey is such a gleefully enjoyable witch that she can take a so-so joke and turn it into somthing decent.

As for Ashlee Simpson. She may be a lousy singer, but at least she was able to match the vocals on her recordings without the help of "lipsynching" so that's a plus. But after her first performance, I did a little channel-surfing and came across a Joss Stone concert. There wasn't even the slightest comparison.

I think Seth Myers could do great on Weekend Update. He's very straight-man funny, and doesn't ever like giggle at the camera. Or Maya Rudolph.

Yeah I was thinking the exact same thing. Rudolph almost always succeeds every task she's given and Myers is a funny and likeable guy (plus, he works well with Pohler).

Hmmm, it's actually kind of strange that they didn't go for it. I guess Tina can breath more easily knowing that she's not going to get up-staged by her replacement.

Come to think of it, that's probably the reason why they picked Sanz over anyone else.

Has to be. There's no plausible reason for the decision. They could have chose ANYONE over Sanz.

After watching the first half of the show, I can honestly say this season might be sucking more than Season 29. The George Bush opener was a one-joke sketch, which basically set the show up for an entire night of one-joke sketches. The werewolf sketch was so stupid. The funeral thing was lame. Weekend Update was another mess. And I really don't find Caitlyn (Amy Poehler's hyper 10-year-old character) to be such a great recurring character at all. Ferecito was okay, Sanz and Heder (in the particular sketch) were not.

The only stand-outs were Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen and Will Forte as the Napolean Dynamite characters in the monlogue, and the taco commercial (which they fucked up).

Yep, Best of David Spade. I'm watching!

Next week is Catherine Zeta-Jones with musical guest Franz Ferdinand, and then the week after will be Lance Armstrong with musical guest (and wife!) Sheryl Crow.

This week, Catherine Zeta-Jones hosts with music guest Franz Ferdinand.

Oh... and good news for fans of the REAL Weekend Update... Tina Fey returns. Wow, kinda quick? I thought she said it would be four episodes, not two. But I sure ain't complainin'! Maybe now Horatio can mysteriously disappear from the opening credits, like Chris Parnell did two weeks ago.

They fired Parnell again?

Not sure. His name didn't appear on the opening credits of the second episode, but he is supposed to leave mid-season for a new NBC comedy. Perhaps he's skipping out early? Even when Will Ferrell was filming Old School and not appearing in a few episodes, they didn't remove his name, so... it's probably permanent for Parnell.

Tina is coming back to Weekend update very soon, maybe this weekend. She said that she has a contract with NBC and only a verbal agreement with her baby.

Yes, she'll be back tonight. It was absolutely terrible without her.

That part was funny, too. This is by far the funniest this season. She did a great song and dance opener.
