Yes like I said they can add new faces, but they won't be people we care much about as the story is fundamentally about the original survivors.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jack killed. He was, after all, supposed to die in the premiere.
The thing about shows like Lost and even 24 is that they're so high concept, their lifespan is greatly reduced. You can kill off leads because it fits the show. Lost isn't going to run for 7 seasons. It looks like a 3 or 4 season story arc to me.

Isn't that kind of dumb though? I mean they have a limited cast as it is, and no real way of replenishing the cast. Sure they could run across a few people who were stranded there from before but the core of the story is the surviving of that original group of the plane crash, and reducing their numbers is something I think might create problems if they do it too much. Just like Ethan, they could easily move an unknown castaway towards the front by casting a known face. With monsters and traitors and the like, it's unrealistic to not have deaths IMO. You can't kill everyone but a few here and there, I don't see the problem. Spoiler
Someone dies in this weeks episode. I don't know who, but I'm betting it's Claire or Ethan.

What is the deal with Hurley? Has he had his own episode yet? To me, he seems pretty pointless, and is just used as comic relief...

IS NOT.
Soo, we don't know half of the cast's back story? It doesn't mean their pointless. I'm sure they'll make use of him when they find it appropiuate...

Hurley's backstory will be told on March 2nd. And it's insane.

It just seemed like he had a normal life, compared to all these others with murderous backstories. I look forward to his episode, though. He's a cool character along with Locke.

Oh if it was what it should be then I agree it shouldn't run long, even maybe just 2 years. But the network will suck money out of the series till Jenna Bush is elected president if they can.
As to the issue of backstories brought up in other posts, I think there is a point to them, other than the obvious point that they humanize the characters for us and let us know them better. Their backstories all have certain things in common. They all are better off on the island in some way, they had been facing trauma, and recently. That is really unlikely unless there is some overall purpose. And almost all of them were betrayed or estranged by someone close to them shortly before they got on the plane. Isn't that odd?
There is probably a point to it all somehow.

I'm thinking it's Sayid. To me, his problems that he's had have been resolved, while all the others seem to have untold stories or unsolved problems. He's my least favorite character of the show, but even then he's not that boring.

That's a possibility, but more then three this season would be pushing it, unless it was a die character like that old black lady I guess.
Personally, I think Jack dying would be great, seriously mix things up, get rid of the lead to make things "scarier" as said, and stop the already annoying love triange that's going on.

Reminder: The first new episode to air in a while, 'Homecoming', begins in about 10 minutes on the East coast.

Overall a good episode, but without Ethan now the mystery is a lot less. The ending left something to be desired, and the preview was pretty boring, just being a Jack-Kate-Sawyer episode.
I liked how they all worked together for once, even Sawyer, and Charlie's first day on the job was pretty funny.
Ethan was a pretty cool character, but now he's dead.... along with another unknown passenger, Scott.

It was hilarious how they had a subtle reference to The Office, with there being a paper company in Slough. Couldn't have been a coincidence.

Lost loves to reference pop culture.
As soon as the paper company was mentioned, I just knew it had to be in Slough.
Sure enough, it was. Lost never disappoints.
Anyone who hasn't seen The Office, RUN OUT to your nearest dvd retailer and buy that box set. Hands down, funniest show in recent television history.
Good ep of Lost. Too bad about Scott, I mean Steve.
And Ethan, so much for finding anything out. Why was he so strong? Too many loose ends JJ, time to wrap some stuff up.
Anyone think Claire is faking it? I don't.

Anyone think Sun is pregnant? The conversation Sun and Jin had could have had a double meaning... or it was Jin just testing Sun on seeing if she really knows English.
Has it been explained why Jack had the guns in prior episodes?

I don't think she is.
The case was from the wreckage in the lake, the case that couldn't be opened. They dug up the marshall for the key, he kept the case.

Oh, I thought I had seen that case before, but Jack just acted like it was specifically his case and he had brought it with him.

Judging from next week's clip, Jack should have kept the guns hidden.

Why do they still keep Charlie around? Seriously, what good does he do for the island? Who gave him a vote in the inner sanctum of the island? Then he goes and shoots Ethan, moron. I bet Jack is regretting punching him back to like those few episodes ago. All the non Charlie bits of the episode I enjoyed, which sadly weren't many. From the beginning of the episode I thought we were going to see more of Jin and Sun, that made me happy - then we got Charliepalooza and I was sad.
I'm pretty sure I wasn't supposed to be rolling my eyes at Charlie's speech during dinner, but sure enough there I was - eyes rolled in the back my head. I just can't grow to care for him whatsoever. What he's doing now, what he had done or what he will be doing.
Next week looks good too! Sawyer, Kate AND Jack! Oh boy

I was surprised Claire was still pregnant, she didn't look pregnant in that fleeting shot we saw of her at the end of the last episode before this one, I guess it was hidden in the shadows.
Charlie pissed me off with shooting Ethan, it was such a blatantly dumb thing to do when they needed to find out more from Ethan. If he wanted revenge then shoot him in the kneecaps or groin, which might still kill him but at least might not. I have liked Charlie up to now but I'm starting to see AX's point about him.
That trap they set was kind of lame, they all seemed so unprepared even when it worked just like they hoped. Why was everyone afraid to shoot? They acted like if you shoot you kill, as if it's not possible to just shoot ethan in the calf to stop him fighting Jack. Of course if you hit an artery that could kill too but still, they could have wounded him.
I was surprsied Jack didn't give Kate a gun right off the bat, that it took Sawyer to give her one. She's more trained than most of them are. The two most proficient with guns are likely Kate and Sayid.
Where did Charlie get his gun from? Did they explain that? I had company over and was distracted here and there while watching it so I might have missed that explanation, but he seemed to materialize with a 6th gun.
I still liked the episode and the show a lot.
I just hope that they really do have a plan, some weeks I get the feeling they are winging it and don't really have it mapped out.

It was Jack's gun, he dropped it or Ethan knocked it away. They showed it in dramatic fashion falling to the ground.
How Clarlie snuck up, that makes no sense.
Killing Ethan is an easy way to drag out the mystery.
