As much as I love Lost im just not as engaged as I am with Alias. Lost I feel is going to become another Alias in 3 years in that the fans will all start complaining for some reason or the other. But at least it dosent have the pressure of having to change formats to attract viewers.

I think in television a strong ensemble cast is needed to really take a show to disy heights rather than just a female or whatnot.

Just watched Episode 2;
Wow. Very exciting - it felt like season one all over again. I was sad to see Wiess go too actually; And i must say Rachel Nichols character is turning out to be more interesting than i had bargained for.

My least favourite newbie : Balthazar Getty. He just dosen't look like hes going to be anything but a gap filler.

P.S - loved the return of the regular cliffhanger! :o and what was with the whole fingery twitching :D!

P.P.S - Raffiki; Michael Vaughns character was stale fish until the third season - when suddenly he became a lot more intruiging. But he's just never invested the emotional involvement or acting range into the role wheras the rest of the cast most certainly have.

P.P.P.S - The whole "cryogenic" stuff i have a theory on; in that Vaughn aint so dead at all..... It all has to do with Prophet Five, the ruthless baddies surrounding it etc.

I, for one, am really engaged and entertained by what this season's offered so far - and I feel its actually verging on returning on the early greatness. Funnily enough it only happens when the ratings go down again :)

Everyone complains about Lost. It's the new thing to rag on the show.

I must say that Alias, for me, has stayed consistently strong and enthralling since its debut in 2001, and I really enjoyed the first two episodes this season. I have no idea why, but I did. I was even a fan of Season 3, which might have played out better on DVD than once a week on TV. I'm waiting to see where the season goes, and anticipating it. Desperate Housewives, on the other hand... I don't really find myself excited to watch this season. Missed this week's episode... don't feel compelled to download it...

Here's how I'd grade my shows this season:

1. Lost
2. Veronica Mars
3. Alias
4. Prison Break
5. Arrested Development
6. My Name is Earl
7. House/CSI
8. Family Guy/American Dad
9. Desperate Housewives
10. Survivor: Guatemala

Combined House and CSI, cause they're more or less weekly shows, and I don't always feel the need to watch, but when I do, I enjoy them a lot.

Family Guy and American Dad go hand and hand. If I watch one, I watch the other.

So far with 3 episodes already aired, this is shaping up to be the best season since #2.

I totally agree; Ive not seen episode 3 yet; but boy am i gettin that Olde Alias feeling. They are keeping us guessing and getting us hooked again, although right now it feels very much like "toe in the water" kind of stuff; i believe that this is a prelude that will lead into some big giant thing because thats the nature of Alias' seasonal structure.

I'm going to be really sad to see it go. Infact im dreading the final episode and the announcement that this season is its last because I know im going to be devestated . Thats how much i love Alias.

Either way this news seems to confirm that the future of Alias is an unlikely one.

The guy whos been involved since the first season moves on to development after this year.... Which suggests that the show aint gonna be around.

Episode 3 was the best of the season so far I think.

It actually kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what was going to happen next to a level not seen since the second season finale.

I really like all the new characters this season. Balthazar Ghetty's character is a huge improvement over Vaugh. I actually like the guy. And the Rachel character is giving me great Sydney flashbacks from season 1, which is great.

Which is why I fail to the big deal the pre-teen girls made aobut the possibility of Vaughn leaving the show.

There was never really any chemistry between Vaughn and Sydney and it brought the show down. The last time they appeared together it was one of the few times they worked as a couple, so for him to exit like that would be to exit on a high note.

The new characters definitely give the show a breath of fresh air, which after 5 seasons, the show was going to need.

I never really got Vaughn either; sure he gave me the feeling of Alias of old; but with the show changing nearly everything i think letting him leave was a great idea.

It was never the fault of Michael Vartan or Jennifer Garner that they didnt really click all that well [well im sure every other alias veiwer would contest that] but i think it was becuase Vaughn was such a stock character; and even when he was given interesting twists Vartan played the same tortured man,

I think Nichols character has blossomed into somethign more interesting that she originally looked [whos she REALLY working for?] and definately Eloide Bouchez's true motives are providing a great chemical reaction for Sydney to work off of. Theres feelings of new Irinas and so forth emerging here; but I must say inspite it all my favourite part of the season is Sydney's pregnancy. Its just a unique idea; there haven't been ANY pregnant action heriones before and this is doing for preggers women what Buffy did for tv women in general.

My tape didn't record the last few seconds of the last episode, so can smeone help me out.....
(Obviously spoilers for those who havent seen it)

Okay, so the bad guy and his secretary woman left the building with what I'm assuming is a ticking bomb. The power goes out and Rachel Nicols I think see the time clockdown and presses on her earpiece and says, "Can anyone hear me"

What happens next ????

Episode 3; this season really is going from strength to strength. Who knew the new characters could be so engaging. I still feel that Nichols is a little threatening with the talk of her being the new sydney, but the idea that she also went through the same thing with the whole sd6 implications is pretty awesome and entrapping. And explosive isn't an understatement :D

No Eloide Bouchez this episode. But im glad to say that this seasons building up into a big puzzle; last episodes cliffhanger was totally not mentioned this week - which suggests that its going to be coming back in and out through the season. Last year we didn't really have that, even in season 3 it was basically Start, Mission, tiny bit of interlinking, Resolution until about half way through.

This year the structures very much reminiscent of earlier years and thats a good thing. The "personal moments" that Syd is having are the best in the shows history and i think that Daddy Spy and Preggers Spy are playing off each other great this year. All thats left is for Lena Olin to come back :D Which im hearing that she might for a few episodes - even more likely so if its the final season.

You know what though? Even though the show would flop if Garner and the former cast left; the new characters could set up Alias for a reasonably good spinoff - they are stronger than I expected; but they are no Sydneys and Irinas. I dont think it would be fair to the shows history to give Nichols and Eloide et all the reigns of Alias; it would be an entirely different show. But then again with every year being entirely different on Alias i guess we should come to expect it.

The main part thats been "missing" from seasons 3 and 4 is the whole Double Agent thing that Sydney went through; trying not to get detected and so forth. That will not likely ever be back and that is a major part of the shows dynamic i think fans miss the most ; but this season is dealing with the same themes that went with it in a very smart way.

The shows only misstep in its entire run i think was dropping sd-6 so early. There was a lot of potential for that to go on into the third season; But i think taking it any further than 3 years would have become frustrating [something Lost is going to have to watch in the next few years] for viewers and it would have had to have changed. I did like season 3 a lot though, and season 4 - both were very unique and introduced gripping storylines.

Allll of that said - if i was dumping the blame on any one person for the changes in Alias that have meant no matter how awesome it is its struggled to attain the heights of its early years - it'd be Lena Olin. She was fantastic and her character was utterly instrumental to the entire plot. When she left I think the creators were like "Shit shit. What now? We cant replace her - the fans love her too much, and she refuses to come back for anything less than an insane salary...ARG!"

Definately if you read what Abrams has said about Olin leaving you can see that he was desperate to get her to stay on. I think that when the whole family affair thing became a bit deconstructed so did the shows purpose.

It sounds like im being negative but im not - Alias remains the freshest, most entertaining and gripping show on tv with cliffhangers to die for; but all Im saying is that fans should ease up because there was only so far the show could stretch on its original premise - and there were mainy variables that set Alias in motion to various new directions. When i got involved in Alias i always knew the show would be changing, twisting and turning. Sure i miss the way things used to be sometimes - but the way the show is now is no slouch; infact i think the shows adapted to the more contemporary circumstances its been placed it. Its spanned 13 years since Sydney joined SD-6. So if you assume that someones life is going to stay the same, especially in such a hypertonic world of espionage, then you deserve to be dissapointed or to dislike it.

Im not going to rush in just yet and claim its back to its best - but certainly im very happy with the way the shows going this year.

Balthazar Getty ran to save her and pulled the fire alarm seconds before the bomb went off, Nichols darted for the staircase and then we saw the building shaking and a cgi shot of the entire floor basically exploding. Garner darted out the van towards the building and the next thing we see is Getty finding Nichols under a pile of rubble, cradling her in his arms and then Sydney arriving [pregnant spy running up about 5986 flights of stairs] for Getty to say "Shes okay...shes okay"" and then the final shot was of Nichols [looking dazed and in pain] drowsily staring at Sydney.

Thanks... and I must say I did enjoy this episode quite a bit. I especially love how they introduced Nichols' character.

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE 3RD EPISODE YET!

Rachel needs more work but the potential is there. It's obvious she is not and was not trained as a field agent for her spy agency, just a desk jockey. At least on the surface it seems that way. I can see some potential for tension bwt her and Sydney as she's pushed to do things she's not trained for and perhaps rebels. As for Grace I already love his chacracter much more than Vaughn. Vaughn borded me from the start and I never did see the chemistry they tried to create with him and Syd ( she and Will had so much more than when that was going on). Grace is much better, a loner who now has to work with others, who does have exprience in the field.

I also loved Payton[Amy Acker!] the bad agent who snitched on her best buddy Rachel and happily, heartlessly tried to kill her and kill the other innocent people on the floor. I hope she comes back.

Not sure if anyone else picked this out but I got the "she might be a lesbian vibe" from Rachel from some of the comments made by Peyton. First at the pass off she comments after Grace leaves that He's not Rachel's type, then later in the building Peyton says that's why she likes Rachel, no competion. It would be interesting if they introduced a lesbian character, instead of the boy meets girl and they fall in love thing with Grace.

Wow. that's REALLY reading between the lines but I'm not gonna deny that it's great work to point it out. I doubt it but you never know; ot's a possibility.

Rtmbs. I got the same vibe, i was almost certain i heard some kind of lesbionic exchange between Acker and Nichols but i dismissed it as just nothing.

Im not really sure about "Tom Grace" hes kind of this tortured anti-hero and thats been done before....Maybe if they made him a bad guy that'd be pretty interesting.

Wow i just looked at a chart for the most downloaded current episodes of a tv show right now.

1. Lost
2. Joey
3. Desperate Housewives
4. Alias
5. Threshold
6. American Dad
7. Night Stalker
8. CSI
9. Smallville [Various Former Seasons]
10. Alias [Former Seasons]

Amy Acker's been a busy girl. Supernatural and Alias.

The magazine scene was very Whedon-esque. Bell and Goddard are in full bloom.

...the personal "Sydney Moments" are all an Abrams trade mark; the team undoubtably bring their own qualities to the writing and directing - but Abrams is the one who sets the tone.

Abrams Smebrams, he's too busy with MI3 right now to infuse "Sydney Moments"

This just in: big spoilerrrrssss

seriously, a spoiler bellow

stop reading now if you dont want to know...

Alias producers have admitted that Michael Vartan will infact be back; for how long? No one knows yet; Vartans management have been mystical about the actors return to the show. Abrams had hinted all along that Vaughn's death has twists and turns around it - and Vartans return is expected to be no longer than 5 episodes long; the actor could start filming in December before Garner goes on her pregnancy hiatus.

Meanwhilst....fans of Michael Vartan are continuing to watch the show, it seems; but are totally unreceptive to new characters or developments.

I think they should just stop watching Alias and start watching One Tree Hill because they are probobly going to get all the melodramatic love story they need from that show.

Michael Vartan is currently back on set filming new episodes; no one knows how many. Just that hes back.

Also: E! online is suggesting that Alias may be axed midseason. Coming Soon is also urging ABC to move it back to Wednesday nights; as is every other media site with any sense whatsoever. The fact that its still roughly 2 million viewers stronger than anything else in ABC's thursday lineup should have been some kind of indication that theres still life in the show - even though this move has not exactly helped matters.

*avoids spoilers*

I have seen some episodes of Alias, though starting Wednesday on TNT they're starting to show Season 1 so I'm planning on recording/watching the episodes, I'll slowly catch up...
