I guess Sony gave Fox a sweet deal and several blowjobs to get enough episodes for syndication.

So I'm assuming most of the show's fans knew this was coming (?) but Fox has officially axed Prison Break. It'll come back with 6-8 final episodes on Fridays in April.

Is it just me or is network tv heading straight for the pits creatively... I mean they weren't good before, but at least they had their flashes
CBS is all dull procedurals ABC's big shows are reaching their end and they haven't came up with anything new in a while NBC stinks, Office and 30 Rock are naturally good but their audience is low Fox has AI but not much past that
On top of that people aren't as crazy about reality tv as they were a couple years ago
What does the tv landscape look like in a few years if these networks continue to stink? They aren't helping their cause in the face of declining ratings

Basic Cable isn't all that great either: Disney shows, Lifetime shows and Secret Life of an American Teenager

CBS for some reason is the only network that is able to realize this and it's paying off for them. They're the only network that isn't being cheap, I mean they have the least amount of reality shows on their lineup and they cost next to nothing. And if each show doesn't get a big rating the first couple of episodes just stick with them and pick your battles (Why NBC fought for Lipstick Jungle over say Scrubs I have no idea). It's been said before but I'll say it again, Seinfeld wouldn't have lasted past the third episode in this climate. In fact it's a miracle something like How I Met Your Mother was able to survive. It wasn't getting great ratings but look what happened. Networks just have to be more patient with their scripted shows. They just need to get a bunch of writers together in a room and have them come up with stuff. Something is bound to work. Drop 95% of the reality shows, bring back a couple of game shows in primetime (Nothing new - pick any show from the 70s-80s and it'll do well), and make everything else scripted.

What does the tv landscape look like in a few years if these networks continue to stink? They aren't helping their cause in the face of declining ratings Network TV has been in severe decay since they decided 'reality' crap and crime/procedural dramas like the 20 CSI's and Bones/NCIS/etc are what audiences should be forced to watch. Its a damn shame really. If it wasnt for the non networks like HBO and Showtime there would be hardly much worth watching. It doesnt help that new shows dont even get a chance to find an audience before they are axed.

Yeah some of basic TV has been getting on my nerves. You have these crap reality shows on every single night that get high ratings but then some good shows like Reaper, 30 Rock, and others that get very low ratings and are in fear (for many of them) to get cancelled even though critics and people alike enjoy them.

 Re: Renewed/Canceled 2008-2009
Darn, lol. http://www.tvweek.com/news/2009/02/cw_s ... around.phpQuote: In the clearest sign yet that The CW will live to fight another season, the network has given early renewals to a half-dozen existing series, including Superman drama “Smallville.â€Â
The CW President Dawn Ostroff began telephoning executives at Warner Bros. Television and CBS Paramount Network Television about the decision Tuesday morning. The network could announce the news as early as this afternoon.
In addition to “Smallville,†the series renewed for next season are “Gossip Girl,†“90210,†“America’s Next Top Model†(cycles 13 and 14), “One Tree Hill†and “Supernatural.†While the solid ratings for all six shows made pickups likely, the renewals were not all foregone conclusions.
In the case of “Smallville,†producer Warner Bros. Television had been negotiating with series star Tom Welling to return. The CW’s renewal indicates the studio was successful in those conversations.
There also had been a question of whether The CW itself would survive for another season. In recent months, however, it’s become increasingly clear that the network has moved to more solid ground.
The network has had a decent 2008-09 season, with the successful launch of “90210†and the strong pairing of “Gossip Girl†and “One Tree Hill†on Monday nights. All three shows have posted double-digit Nielsen gains compared to their timeslot averages last season.
The CW also has had success building its brand as a destination for young female viewers.
With six tentpole series renewed for next season, there aren’t that many holes in The CW’s 2009-10 schedule left to be filled. What’s more, two projects currently in developmentâ€â€a reimagination of “Melrose Place†and the “Gossip Girl†prequel “Lilyâ€Ââ€â€are very likely to land series orders for next season, making it even more difficult for new shows to get on the air.
Nonetheless, The CW has an active development slate beyond “Melrose†and “Lily.†Two buzzworthy projects in the works include “Vampire Diaries†and “Light Years.†The CW also just picked up drama “The Beautiful Life.â€Â
Shows on the bubble at The CW include “Reaper,†“Privileged,†“The Game†and “Everybody Hates Chris.†The latter series, which has already filmed enough episodes for syndication, is considered a long shot to return.
It’s also unclear what direction The CW will move on Friday and Sunday nights next fall, although both nights could provide logical homes for new programming. It’s unlikely, however, that The CW will program a full night of first-run scripted fare on Sundays.

I really hope PRIVILEGED will get another chance. They should order 13 episodes or something. The GOSSIP GIRL spin-off sounds stupid.

I'm glad Smallville is getting a ninth season. Just keep Reaper around too if it's still as good as Season 1.

I don't mind Smallville getting a 9th season... but I question, even as good as 8 has been, where they can go with it right now.

Would they play out the entire Doomsday arc this season or extend it until the 9th?

Since I'm assuming the end of season 8 will be the death of superman.

 Re: Renewed/Canceled 2008-2009
Yeah, I hate to say it because Mike is a good dude (and I know how it feels when I want one of my shows to get a renewal even though it's not a good decision), but renewing Privileged is not in CW's best interest, in as much as it's a low-rated show on a low-rated network. They need to rebuild, especially after tossing away one of their highest-rated shows (Smackdown) for some ridiculous reason that it wasn't attracting an audience to their other programs. Last I checked, a show gets good ratings, you keep it.
