 Administrative Announcements...and other stuff
First off, rules: This is still a WIP, but this is what we have so far: The Commandments: Eagle wrote: 1) You shall not view the world through binary! ---------- Spam bots and spam in general are not allowed on the forum.
2) Thou shalt not bear witness to porn! ---------- Explicit nudity is not allowed in posts on the forum.
3) Thou shalt not bear witness to violence! ---------- Explicit violence is not allowed in posts on the forum.
4) You hath been granted the freedom of speech! ---------- Users of this forum are allowed to express themselves and their beliefs, regardless what those beliefs are, so long as they do so in a manner that isn't hostile to other members and respects others rights to their own beliefs. Similarly, profanity is an expression of oneself, and so long as that expression is not hostile to another, it is acceptable on this forum.
5) Treat thy fellow poster as you would have oneself be treated! ---------- Attacks directed at someone in a personal manner are not allowed. Do not attack a person's character, looks, social life, etc. Additional: 1) We'd like to clarify #2 after conversing with Eagle. Porn is not to be displayed on the site. You may link to an image containing pornography, as long as you post the link in spoiler tags with a warning. 2) Double accounts are not allowed; however, if you need a double account for awards/PMs/whatever, talk to a moderator before creating the account. We're flexible. When these rules are violated, the default course of action will be a non-confrontational PM. However, we reserve the right to choose a different course of action, provided that our decision is posted publicly in "The Site."

 Re: Administrative Announcements...and other stuff
The faux-Biblical language makes this into a parody of the Mosaic laws. Why use "you" in the first law and not subsequently? Also, "thou" is a more intimate form of address than "you." In Othello, for example, after Othello grows suspicious of Desdemona's fidelity to him, he begins to address her as you, as in Act 4, Scene 2 where he says "I took you for that cunning whore of Venice/ That married with Othello." In 4) please ditch the "You hath." "Hath" is even more archaic than "thou", and you're combining it with "you"? A few more corrections here: ---------- Users of this forum are allowed to express themselves andtheir beliefs freely, regardless of what those beliefs are, so long as they do so in a manner that isn't is not hostile to other members and respects others rights their right to their own beliefs. Similarly, profanity is an expression of oneself, and so long as that expression is not hostile to another, it is acceptable on this forum. -"Express themselves and their beliefs" is redundant; if you are expressing your beliefs you are expressing yourself -No contractions should be used in formal discourse -I don't see the need to speak of plural "rights" here; you are discussing one particular right, namely, to speak and write freely within certain limitations I have an issue with the notion that profanity is an expression of oneself. I think it would be more accurate to state that it expresses one's mindset at a particular moment. I have personally never viewed profanity as constituting a core of one's identity. But that's just my opinion. Quote: 5) Treat thy fellow poster as you would have oneself be treated! ---------- Attacks directed at someone in a personal manner are not allowed. Do not attack a person's character, looks, social life, etc. This has to be changed, preferably to something like "Treat your fellow poster as you would like to be treated" or "as you would like others to treat you" or "as you would like to be treated by him or her." Also, I have a serious issue with the use of the term "right." We are not talking about rights here, but privileges. This is a privately-owned forum, where users are given the privilege to express themselves and use profanity within reasonable bounds. One can revoke a privilege that one grants to another person, but taking away rights which no person has any real authority to grant to begin with? All this is just my opinion, of course. Porn cannot be displayed on these forums because it is against Google Adsense policy. We should be sensitive to that.

Torrino, you can feel free to rewrite the commandments so long as the meaning and purpose behind them remains the same. If you feel the need to clarify them by rewriting, or would just rather them written in your own style, that's totally acceptable.

 Re: Administrative Announcements...and other stuff
I apologize if I came across as harsh or anything. I just took the "work in progress" bit as suggesting that we should post our thoughts and comments regarding the matter at this stage of its development.

He disposed of me, just like Eagle before him. That, however, was not the vote I was speaking of.

I think this should just be posted here to make it "official":
Posts attacking or purposefully insulting aspects of another user's personal life which they have no control over (family, appearance, illnesses, race, etc.) will not be tolerated and will result in a warning to the offending poster.

Really Mr MOD! Well considering this is already a Forum Rule, it is already OFFICAL! PS. As a MOD, do you know the Forum Rules. (Maybe all MODS should be reviewing the Forum Rules more often!) 9. Personal Attacks: Flame wars are a part of forums. The moderators and administrators will keep a check on any disagreements taking place between certain members here. The moderators will encourage ways to sort out the problems. As long as the discussion pertains to the subject at hand, the discussion is fine. If a moderator notices that a purely healthy discussion is turning into attacks on a person’s character or issues that are in no way relevant to the topic at hand, the moderators will step in and warn users from engaging in this type of behavior. Bottom line: Do not attack a person’s character, looks, and/or social life if it has no connection at all to the topic at hand. PS2. Guess no one has read these in a while, unless the above wierd symbols are supposed to be there.

well, with that tone, NO, especially since you aren't an ADM or a MOD. And sorry that you think that way but since it is listed in the Site as Forum Rules, I KNOW THEY ARE IMPORTANT UNTIL THEY ARE REMOVED! Grill wrote: so then should the OLD FORM RULES BE DELETED that are still showing on the site?

Wondre what was the point of getting so many MODS when they seem to be not very helpful as I see paper and Lecter posting on the sight but not answering a simple question about Forum Rules.

Grill, no one needs your copy/paste of the entire rules or what x thread or x forum looks like OR what x polls look like. We're all capable of looking. Thanks.
Personal attacks need to be looked at case-by-case, otherwise everyone on this forum would be banned tomorrow. paper's post making it official not to bring family members and/or medical conditions up is something specific that's not going to be tolerated.
