I think it should be moved to Cinemania.

Just my 2 cents..............
As I have set up alot of polls, my opinion is that I personally don't think a poll section is needed as people should set up the polls in the area of interest for the topic > Say if it applies to general movie topics, Box Office, Water Cooler / General World, etc.
[ Poll ] 6/23 * Click (Adam Sandler / Comedy) * Waist Deep (Action)
[ Poll ] Expectations for the upcoming * Superman Returns *
[ Poll ] 6/16 New * FastFurious * Garfield * LakeHouse * NachoLibre *
[ Poll ] Expectations for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
************************************
I think in general a sub form for polls gets confusing. Or wouldn't would have to make a sub forum for each category - Movie, BO, Water Cooler, etc............
that's just my opinion

I have to disagree with you Goldie. By their very nature, polls are used to gather information, versus creating debate or dialogue.
I doubt anyone would be confused, in fact, more people may even participate in your polls if they were centralized.

just one example as a reply before I go off to the movies
*******************
I know for my weekly poll based on the views and replies, people look and talk about the group of upcoming movies as a whole. No debate is needed. And as you can see by the posters, even without alot of the senior KJ members voting, it gets lots of looks.
Personally, I always thougth that this weekly poll should have been stickied - but I never cared to ask.
And even without a sticky - almost 500 views in a week - I hope you will take that into consideration before my polls get moved to a sub-forum. I would rather get a sticky then that - then you would really see some good viewed numbers.
[ Poll ] 6/16 New * FastFurious * Garfield * LakeHouse * NachoLibre * [ Goto page: 1, 2 ] 35 Goldie 477
so this equals almost 70 responses - 35 comments and 33 poll responses > pretty damn impressive

The June 16th poll for example, 1/5 of those replies are from you. And thread views can't be taken into account for obvious reasons.

final comments for the decision makers

sorry but whatever and when someone starts a thread, I bet they usually answer alot.
anyway, let then take away my 7 replies from the 35 = that still equals 28 + 33 poll responses = 61 > to me still very impressive - unless you are going to accuse me of going into other user accounts and answering for them. And I bet by the end of the weekend that might even go higher.
so based on your comments above, I hope the higher ups realize who these threads are for and they seem to be happy - sorry that you aren't or don't seem to be.

Also the 2 bolded threads above were just one-time new threads based on them being some of the biggest movies of summer - this probably won't happen again to maybe Lady in the Water.
Anyway, threads like these, I could see going into that section as it isn't a straight forward weekly poll like the others and go over a couple of weeks / months.
Not like the others which are only current for the present week.

You realize I'm one of those higher-ups right, lol.
Anyway, I'm not surprised you don't agree with it being you're the #1 poll creator. But we have the sub-forum for polls for a reason, and it should be moved and used. We're creeping towards 3000 users, probably will hit 5000 sooner than one would predict. It's time to streamline some things in regards to the forum. For aesthetics and usability, it makes the most sense.

The poll section is a bit outdated.
It's use is this: Any poll that is made there, will be featured on the portal. I don't think we need a private section for polls, the reason that section is there is so that a poll would appear on the portal. The portal's poll draws directly from the latest entry in that forum.

yes I realize that but I am just giving my position for whatever group or person makes the decision.
Also, as I said above I could see my weeklies not going in there and the general future ones going in there. I am not totally againist it.
But anyway are you saying that ALL THREADS WITH ANY POLLS ATTACHED WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE MOVED THERE?
**********************************
Also, on another subject that was previously discussed - how about a rumor section for all of the future way off threads on future movies > just bringing it up for discussion.

If the main site had a weekly cinema-based poll, I would agree, put em with cinemania (after all, when we call this forum "The Site", we mean the forum-site, not the main url)...why stick movie polls under a forum dealing with problems with the forums?
But I don't think it gets updated/used enough to be justified as a forum at all. I take that back, I never check the forum, so maybe it's updated/used all the time. Doesn't often seem to turn red, though. Sok.

Would it just be a sort of "When do you plan on seeing x movie?" poll/"Which movie do you plan on seeing this weekend?" type poll every week?

It could be anything.
What movie do you plan on seeing this weekend, Which star is your favorite, etc etc.

I see what Eagle is saying but in that case just remove the poll section as it exists now and create a new one in the Cinemania folder that is not tied to the portal to accomplish what Loyal wants.

Well, if we wanted, we could always move the forum to a Cinemania sub-forum, the portal would still draw from that subforum. I personally don't see the need for such a forum, but wouldn't be against it if others felt there was an actual reason for it.
Goldie,
This is the kind of discussion I don't want. It is not movie related, it is site related. Even though it somewhat involves you, please stay out of this discussion as I don't particuarly like the direction your responses are headed. Please don't comment further on the topic, if you have something to say, email me.

In that case, yeah, just move it from "the site" to cinemania, and everything else will stay the same. And get someone to update it with good polls.
Or, what I think would be better, disconnect it from the portal all together and instead link it to the real main site, since no one really uses the portal I don't think, and that might lead main site visitors to the forums (with a "Discuss this poll in the forums" link).
Either way, I think general "Which Fast and furious film sucked least" type of polls/questions should stay in regular discussion, and whatever you decide to do with the poll subforum should stick with a "one-smart person makes the polls" format.

Well,
I would have no problems putting a poll into the main site, similar to how the most recent topics show up on the main site. But, I don't know of a way to be able to make the poll look like I would want. There are various free hosting poll sites, but I don't know of something like what I would want.
I still don't see the point to a poll sub forum in Cinemania, can someone explain it to me?

I still don't see the point to a poll sub forum in Cinemania, can someone explain it to me? Well, the reason I say subcinemania, is because having a forum for a general site poll that keeps track of all of the polls you have up in the main site AND gives users a place to discuss those topics is a pretty good idea, I think. But it makes no sense to put it as a subforum of "the site", because the "site" in "The Site" is not http://www.worldofkj.com, it's "www.worldofkj.com/forum/index.php". Ysee? So basically, that forum is a good idea, just in the wrong spot. For that matter, isn't there a subforum for reviews/articles/box office previews? That should really be up in the film-discussion area, too, I think...

the good thing about a Cinemania poll subsection is that it takes all of 3 minutes to create. If it doesnt work, then we'll do away with it.
I think people who enjoy polls will seek it out.
