 Tricky concept for polls
Could we maybe "programme" the polls in the review section to be a "no vote" for all users until they make a post in the thread for that movie? I don't know if this is possible, but I notice there's always a random bunch of early A's or F's from unknown voters before the movies practically even start (and during). If the poll was 'routed" through have to at least post "Hi I saw the movie and voted" in a post, it could help.
Like, everyone would have to post, even if a blank post, in that thread to *gain access* to the grading poll. I think that would inhibit people from random vote casting, etc.
However, i don't know if that's even possible to do, or if members here are interested in it. I like to see the polls personally, the way I get size-ups at rt doing the same thing. So while I know not to consider random F's, it gets harder later on into the movie's run, and kind of just is not s fun too gage movies by.

A problem with that is that you might get someone to post "zghd", vote anyway and then say it was an accident.
I like the idea, though.

I love the idea.
Make it where the person has to post a certain amount of characters, say something that equaled about one sentence that would show exactly how the person felt, and would limit the bogus voters.

I saw this somewhere. Not sure if option is here.
The way everyone votes can be listed out and seen by all.

Yeah, that'd be a good idea. BKB wasn't happy with the Fantastic Four thread.
Quote: Gee?? What a bunch of Bullsh*t.. Someopne already gives it an "F" without any Goddamn explanation other then doing so.. If your going to fail it, at least post your damn review of it as to WHY you failed it, or is this just some sort of follow the leader type of nonsense since everyone seems content with overanalyzing it and panning it??
Do it for BKB!

It doesn't really bother me that people vote without seeing the film. First of all, I don't pay attention to the ratings, I think most of them are complete bullshit anyways.

I can't believe anyone takes those polls seriously. I always assume half the votes are just people randomly choosing anything for the heck of it.

Ditto Archie. I'm surprised anyone even pays attention to them because of the idiots who vote early and often without even seeing it.
As much as I'd love to see something like that, I'm not sure if such an option is availible for this forum software, although I'm definitely not positive. I've never seen it on a phpBB forum.

well that's why it would help alot. Like the rt meter, everyone does eye-ball the fresh/rotten count because they know each tomato is linked to someone who had to see the movie and write at least a 300 word review. I don't think we need full review here, I just think forcing poll votes to exist only after someone posts will make them more stable and a good way to size up a movie. It'll add legitimacy to them, which is kind of good especially if we want more people browsing the forums and getting an idea for the tastes in movies, what's getting alot of positive attention, etc.
I think even if some types fdkjgh and then submitted an F. It would be easier to spot who it was, and they'd probably only be able to do it once or tice before they had to stop saying it was an "accident."
I dunno, i guess it breaks down to whom looks at rt percentage. I do, so i think it would be nice to mimic the certainty of people having seen a film before voting. For people who don't look at rt, yeah, this isn't really a big deal. and for those who do, but don't look at the polls here because they know about the tampering, this could certainly help.
Think about it. we could have less hackneyed ratings than imdb where people go in and vote on movies they haven't seen all the time. It could actually lend alot of legitimacy to internet users to come browse here for user-ratings instead of other places (especially if they don't like "critics" and want to here what regular movie lovers think.
Anyways, its not a huge deal, or urgent, or for all i know...even possible. But its just a thought.
Then we could really have a legit top 100, bottom 50 type list like imdb based off of viewer ratings like Chipmunky suggested in the other thread.

I understand what you're after. If Eagle can program it then sure give it a try, can't hurt to experiment at least, like a pilot program.
In my opinion the leading cause of "junk" answers to polls is that you can't see the results easily until you answer. Perhaps some people answer polls not to skew it up or down but so that next time they open the thread they can easily see the results.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. i meant the rules at rt for the official reviewers is 300 words. I just meant here that someone had to post "I saw it" or "Pretty good. I give it a B" before actually having access to the poll. A one-line post. Its pretty much a same thing as the list you had, which is the same idea. basically that people can't randomly come in and vote crazy without any accountability for it. It'll clean up the polls I think, and make them worthwhile for internet readers to refer to. a list might be easier to design than my suggestion, so could be a good option.
Yeah, Archie, alot of people vote just so that they don't need to keep clicking "view results" to see them. I don't know if there's a way to reverse them? Like have the poll preset (like on the main page one) and when you click you want to cast a vote, it sends you to a post submission as well? I dunno if that's possible though.

I like the top 100 idea that Chipmunky proposed, but I still think that the polls in general - or at least those in the review forum - are a bit silly and unnecessary.
I always ignore them.

I like them. I'm not going to sift through 12 pgages of reviews and debates trying to get a quick eye-ball view of if people on the forum like a movie or not. I can't tell if people think they're silly, or people think they're silly just because they're so messed up by unaccounted for ranks. Because we refer to imdb ratings and rt freshness all the time and don't consider those silly.
If the sillyness come from the poll manipulation, I think we can try to do something about it, imo.

The bottom line is ... who fucking cares.
If you are too lazy to scan and read the reviews, why do you even care? Especially you dolcevita, because you are more enlightened. Do you even trust the tastes of most of the people on this site? Or are you like me, you go through and pick and choose who's review you read?
Quote: Because we refer to imdb ratings and rt freshness all the time and don't consider those silly.
I consider RT somewhat professional, from a media perspective, but IMDB and Yahoo are absolutely meaningless.

I have seen polls at several websites across the interweb that allow users to see who voted for certain polloptions. I know it's availible at Michael's site naturalflux7, off the top of my head.

Ohhhhh Kay!
I feel like I just announced something really embarressing by mentioning I look at those polls.
Scrap that idea.
Consider this my contribution to useless threads in The Site forum.

For example as seen on RT - F4 while the critics # is about 27, it has a user # of 70 because
