Re: Star Wars Episode Ranking Thread
I think Return of the Jedi was a great way to finish the trilogy, but the film itself kinda drags and repeats too much of the first film. It also has a weak turn from Harrison Ford.
I rank it above Force Awakens because while Force Awakens had a better performance from Ford and no cribge moments like the Jabba song scene, it's kinda forgettable and repeats too much of New Hope

Re: Star Wars Episode Ranking Thread
Well the thing about Jedi is you can't blame Ford. He literally wanted to die in Empire, and has nothing to do after the fantastic opening. You can tell all of his lines were Landos if he wouldn't come back, and had to oblige to a romance with Leia that fucks the future of the franchise up basically. The Emperor scenes are brilliant, and that tracking lightsaber fight mixed with Williams score is one of the best moments in cinema.
We needed this new trilogy in 1999. That being said, I've liked every film to come out so far since the buy out.
I'm completely in the Mark Hamill boat. That isn't close to what Luke Skywalker would do, it is complete fan service, but also fan disservice at the same time. Ford and Fischer the same thing.

Re: Star Wars Episode Ranking Thread
I disagree. Rewatching Empire, a lot of Luke's decisions in Last Jedi made sense.
An important thing to remember is that Luke did not attempt to kill Kylo, only considered it.

Re: Star Wars Episode Ranking Thread
I have no problems with that.
It's story problems with him having to disappear for 33 years due to age. A lot does not make sense for that reason. Snoke and the First Order also were nice ideas that could have maybe bridged it, but now who knows.
You have to make big leaps to overlook that Luke wouldn't abandon his family as that is one of his defining characteristics. It worked with Han Solo as he was always the loner and you could believe he could just leave.

Re: Star Wars Episode Ranking Thread
I disagree because of the lesson Luke learned in Empire. A young Luke would have dropped everything to go help, much like he does in Empire. But when he goes to help in that movie, it only does more harm. Now an older, jaded Luke feels the Jedi will only do more harm. This is a wiser Luke and a Luke no longer ignorant, obviously now understanding what happened in the prequels. I think he lost sight of who he was in this film because of his shame for creating Kylo and almost killing him. I don't know. Last Jedi gives a lot of reasons for Luke being who is. I think a lot of people choose to ignore these plot points wanting Luke to be no different than how we left him 30 years ago, but only slight tweaks, much like Han in the previous film.

Re: Star Wars Episode Ranking Thread
As for the prequels, a note: the prequels and their acrobatic light saber battles were awful and ruined any drama in the Obi Wan vs Anakin light saber battle, made Yoda less interesting, and gave it a video game vibe. HOWEVER, the Qui Gon Jinn/Obi Wan vs Maul is spectacular! Having Maul be acrobatic works for his character and gives him some dynamic. Applying this to all the fights in this trilogy weakens what is arguably the best part of the Prequels trilogy.
This is why, despite more flaws, I rank Phantom over Clones

Kylo's around 30 years old, and was turned when he was a teenager.

It's been a long time since I've seen many of these, but
VI III IV VIII I V VII II
I've never really felt ESB, Phantom Menace has some more nostalgic feelings for me. Attack of the Clones is the clearcut worst for me.

Again it's bad storytelling due to the passage of time, and him wanting to be Darth Vader when Anakin never wanted that is ridiculous too. This is very much non canon.

Re: Star Wars Episode Ranking Thread
But, but is canon you gotta deal with it now.
Also Ben Solo and Anakin both went to the dark side for very different reasons and Ben sees Vader in a completely different way than Anakin, and that's fine, it serves both their characters. Ben sees the Dark Side as inevitable because he is broken by both Snoke and Luke into thinking he is a monster. Understandably so, Ben hates his family for casting him as a monster, and combined with no doubtablly Snoke putting thoughts in his head, a power he is shown to have, he turns dark. He then sees Vader as an answer to his place in this family even if it is misguided, well Ben is misguided himself.

Re: Star Wars Episode Ranking Thread
How is that Canon if it's never been said. It's just theory.
There's no explanation as to why Ben convinced other trainees to come with him, and what the hell happened to them?
Anakin was tricked to turn dark. Ben at his worst was probably more like Luke.
They would clear up so much by just saying Ben was going to be the next Yoda and he couldn't handle it. Him wanting to be Vader is so fucking stupid. It negates the whole franchise.
As said, this trilogy is going to be half assed as they needed to bridge a lot of nostalgia with new idea. I like both aspects, but they certainly gelled much worse here than in TFA

VI VIII V III IV I II VII
The Last Jedi flirts with being my favorite of the series. Force Awakens easily the worst for me with no originality whatsoever. Rogue One would be at the bottom.

Ya'll suck. The only bad parts of II are some of the love dialogue between Anakin and Padme.
