Post Which order should be seen for Star Wars virgins?
Say, in about 10 years you finally want to show someone the amazing, brilliant, perfect, flawless STAR WARS saga, which order would they been in?

Mine:

Star Wars, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, The Empire Strikes Back, Revenge of the Sith and then Return of the Jedi.

I would show The Empire Strikes Back before Revenge of the Sith because when Vader says "I am your father" I think the person would be more pumped to see Vader become a father in Revenge of the Sith.

Hmm, I'll need to see Revenge of the Sith first, but I'm lead to Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith

I would recommend the OT first, and then the prequels. It works fine that way. Once they've seen it that way, they can watch all 6 in order if they choose. I'm going to try to plan that for this midnight showing. Watching The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones , going to the midnight showing, and then coming home and watching the original trilogy. It'll probably be over a few day period, as too much is too much.

Not really. In Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back it was Luke's story.

Exactly. I think if you see the prequels first it'll ruin too many things in the original trilogy that you'd rather to experience for the first time in their original form: Vader revealed as Luke's father, Luke and Leia being brother and sister etc. It would all be so deflated if you already knew, and the "father" bit especially is a killer moment in cinematic history that you would regret having had ruined.

And in The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, and Return of the Jedi, it's Anakin's. Let's put it this way -- when experiencing Star Wars, do you want it to end with every hero either dead or cast into isolation?

Except that, y'know, it's pop culture, and you'd have to be a sheltered kid who was raised in the 80s and is just now leaving the bomb shelter to never have heard the line "Luke, I am your father." The twist of the OT is that Anakin repents and kills the Emperor, not that he's Skywalker's father. Frankly, when watching them chronologically, I think the death of Obi-Wan and Anakin killing the Emperor far outweights the simple twist in Empire Strikes Back.

Return of the Jedi was also about Luke. Anakin isn't even in ROTJ until the end.

Well if you haven't seen a Star Wars movie I think that makes you a sheltered kid, so its an underlying assumption.

True that, no idea why it's so famously misquoted.... :???:

The focus of the films change a lot over the course of the 6 films. The Phantom Menace really isn't as much about Anakin, it's more about Padme. A New Hope is definately about Luke but The Empire Strikes Back presents a STRONG Vader character who drives the film's plot.

So ...

If they know the Darth Vader "secret" --> 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

If, over the past 25 years since Empire they've missed the "I am your father" line, meaning, they've been living in a cave then then 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3

So I can get them to watch the genius of the OT rather than them not wanting to even watch anymore after Ep. 1,2.

I watched TPM and AOTC before Sith last week. The next morning, I watched the OT.

Watching Sith before A New Hope definitely changes things (in a good way).
