I keep a list of all movies I have seen. While people were posting their lists I just did a rundown.

67. Romy & Michele's High School Reunion (1997, David Mirkin)


The most feather light and inconsequential movie on this list, probably. But so what? Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino are perfect as valley girl pinheads, and the film is one of my favorites to watch when I want to kick back and unwind.

66. Say Anything... (1989, Cameron Crowe)


The image says it all, really. John Cusack blasting "In Your Eyes" with a boombox over his head has become of the iconic cinematic declarations of love. Say Anything... is utterly delightful.

65. Bridesmaids (2011, Paul Feig)


It'll be interesting to see how Bridesmaids ages. Very well, I suspect. It's already basically redefined the Hollywood scope of women and mainstream comedy. The film is screamingly funny and surprisingly astute in its commentary on female relationships.

64. Network (1976, Sidney Lumet)


An extremely biting satire way ahead of its time. A must-see for any television connoisseur today.

63. Working Girl (1988, Mike Nichols)


The film is a tad dated now in its portrayal of the corporate world of the late 80s, but it's also an incredibly enjoyable underdog story about how far ambition and drive can get you. Melanie Griffith showed so much promise she never delivered on again, and the supporting cast of Sigourney Weaver, Harrison Ford and Joan Cusack is perfection.

62. City Lights (1931, Charlie Chaplin)


Chaplin's finest film. An ode to love with perhaps one of the most perfect endings ever committed to film.

61. Erin Brockovich (2000, Steven Soderbergh)


Julia Roberts hit the jackpot with Erin Brockovich, a David & Goliath-esque true story rousingly directed by Steven Soderbergh in the same year he also had Traffic. In my opinion, Roberts has one of the best movie star turns of all time here, and her chemistry with Albert Finney is incredible. Extremely entertaining.

60. The Shawshank Redemption (1994, Frank Darabont)


So moving and beautiful. It's no accident this movie took on a life of its own when it hit video after a disappointing box office performance. It's one of those films that actually makes you take a second look at your own life and how much you value it.

LOVE the inclusion of Erin Brockovich. I didn't even like Romy & Michelle though.

I love Romy & Michelle. Perfect 90's movie.

City Lights is my favorite Chaplin, too. Such a beautiful story. And the boxing scene is hypnotic.

59. It Happened One Night (1934, Frank Capra)


An utterly delightful screwball comedy, probably my favorite of the period.

58. Clue (1985, Jonathan Lynn)


Easily the best movie based on a board game (sorry, Battleship), Clue is an extremely silly, extremely funny farce with many actors in peak comic form. So hilarious.

57. The Lion King (1994, Roger Allers & Rob Minkoff)


Spectacular animation and a timeless story. The opening Circle of Life sequence remains eye popping and stunning.

56. Terms of Endearment (1983, James L. Brooks)


A tearjerker of the highest order. Superbly scripted and acted, the love-hate mother/daughter relationship between Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger is totally believable. Bonus points for a wonderful Jack Nicholson too.

55. The Godfather (1972, Francis Ford Coppola)


What is there to say that hasn't been said? Timeless.

54. Jurassic Park (1993, Steven Spielberg)


Still vividly remember seeing this in theaters. Terrifying and also a great deal of fun, the film arguably also has some of the best special effects of all time.

53. Silver Linings Playbook (2012, David O. Russell)


My favorite movie of the last few years. The film has a crazy energy unlike anything else I've ever seen, and the acting is totally dynamite.

52. Sunset Blvd. (1950, Billy Wilder)


Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond. That's basically all that needs to be said. So creepy and darkly funny.

51. Back to the Future (1985, Robert Zemeckis)


So inventive and fun. There's not a single thing I would change about this.

Absolutely LOVE the inclusion of Clue.

It's just funny because no one in this thread can please Algren's annoying ass. You have too many "classics" and "common choices? Oh, all you did was comb IMDB's top 250 for your list! You have too many comedies and/or romances? Oh, you're a woman with terrible and boring taste!

I'm kind of wishing I had trolled him hardcore and just done an entire list of Stallone and Schwarzenegger flicks.

He called my number-five choice (The Royal Tenenbaums) one of the worst movies of all-time.

It's cool, though. Algren is a good man.

Jurassic Park is a great movie. But it's a boring choice. Silver Lining's Playbook is a fantastic film, and not a boring choice, but too recent for me to really respect Libs' list. I feel a film should have simmered down from the hype, then watched again, before claiming it as the best ever.

Would Escape Plan make your list?

I don't buy into the whole "You can't add recent movies!" argument. If a movie strikes a chord with you after watching it, it doesn't matter if it's brand new or an old classic you're watching for the first time. I just watched Fight Club for the first time. I can add it to my top 100 because it's almost 15 years old, but I can't add Silver Linings Playbook (it would also make my top 100) just because it's only a year old?

You know movies aren't fine wine, right? You can love both old AND new movies just the same.

I can't believe I'm arguing this.

You definitely can add recent films. But it is quite subjective to do so, and you cannot truly know how it makes you feel until the hype has passed and you view objectively. That's all I meant.

If you want to add a film you saw yesterday for the first time, go for it. It's no sweat off my sack. I just hope you would have put more effort into your list than that.
