 Who will be the bigger God of Nerds? Christopher Nolan (Batman franchise, Inception, upcoming Interstellar) Joss (Whedon (Buffy, Firefly, The Avengers) JJ Abrams (Lost, Fringe, Star Trek, Star Wars) I know the question is vague, it's meant to be. Re: Who will be the bigger God of Nerds? Nolan and Abrams are playing on familiar fields that have been around for decades and have a built in fan base. It just so happened both Nolan and Abrams hit it out of the ballpark, but (especially in Abrams' case) I'm not entirely sure that some other director couldn't be just as much successful. Abrams is pretty much guaranteed to have success with SW too. The general consensus is that George fucked it up with the prequels. I feel like the new trilogy doesn't even have to be as good as the original one. It just needs to be better than the prequels and people will like it.
People have been dressing up as Batman or ST for before either Nolan or Abrams were born. And they were kids during the SW craze. Whedon gave people two more universes to dress up as (Buffy, Firefly). That's a God right there.

Re: Who will be the bigger God of Nerds? If JJ does to Star Wars what Nolan did to Batman, he will be deified to a scary level. But SW fans are pretty hard to please. Still, if he doesn't screw it up, probably still him. Whedon has some work to do still to pass Nolan.

Re: Who will be the bigger God of Nerds? Batman when Nolan took over was nowhere near as big as SW now that Abrams is taking over, so there's no chance of Abrams succeeding to the level that Nolan did with Batman.
