That's not terribly shocking. Didn't 40YOV and Knocked Up clock in at 130+? I'm sure Funny People will get the cut to 130. But yeah, Apatow loves him some long movies. Great if you got the comedy and story to back it up. Otherwise...

Adam Sandler's best movies--"Happy Gilmore," "The Waterboy," "Big Daddy" and "50 First Dates"--were all under 100 minutes. Ditto for the best Coen brothers comedies, notably "Fargo" as well as Jay Roach's best "Austin Powers" films. Shawn Levy's "Pink Panther" and "Cheaper by the Dozen" were both under 100 minutes; David Wain's "Role Models" clocked in at 101 minutes; John Hamburg's "I Love You, Man" was 105 minutes; Roach's "Meet the Parents" and Levy's "Night at the Museum" were both 108 minutes.

Is it just me, or is he citing Shawn Levy films as good, lean comedies? :|

Anyway, I remember rumors that an almost-final cut of Miami Vice was almost three hours, but the final cut was "only" 134 minutes, so I think they might be able to cut this down at least a little. Though I kinda doubt it'll be any less than 130 minutes, just cause.

Wasn't Knocked Up already over 120 minutes? And it didn't seem too long to me.

40 Year Old Virgin was like 2 hrs 10 min, but an extra twenty minutes could certainly tip audiences into "boredom territory"... however, i feel like Apatow's too sure of his craft and too good at entertaining audiences to make a boring movie.

The theatrical cut of 40YOV wasn't that long. I think it ran at just under 120 minutes. The director's cut was about 130-135 and it nearly ruined the movie. Knocked Up ran at 129 and 133 respectively, but unlike 40YOV's director's cut the movie still worked.

Based on his first two movies Apatow knows what works and what doesn't. Funny People might end up a little longer than Knocked Up (I highly doubt that it stays at 150 minutes), but I'm sure it will work just as well.

Edit: Not that this is anything to go by but according to IMDB it's 136 minutes long. So that would be about 131 minutes without any credits.
