In honor of this month's scary movies, what are your all-time favorite scary movies, scary villains, scary scenes, etc.

I don't think it's right to classify Saw as a horror film. Maybe... maybe not. I don't know. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2003, is a favorite. I loved 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead (2004) as well. Favorite villain? Not sure on that. Could go with Freddy, Leatherface, The Zombies from any Zombie movie. Who knows?

Remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one big pos. Brrr.

My favorite is for sure The Thing by John Carpenter starring Kurt Russell.

Rest of the horrors that are on my top something list are also by Carpenter, like Halloween or In the Mouth of Madness.

Scariest scene didn't came from horror though, it came from The Day After, was 7 or 8 years old and seeing people turning into skelletons and dust really 'haunted' me for weeks then.

Scariest movie: The Shining
Scariest villain: (tie) The hunter that shoots Bambi's mother and the backwoods guys in Deliverance
Scariest scene: Anything from Catwoman

I dont know why so many people like TCM Remake, its an R rated version of Scooby Doo without the suspense of finding out who the monster is at the end, theres nothing redeeming about that movie other then looking at Bale run alot.

I'd say the best (not necessarily the "scariest") horror films I've seen are Halloween, The Exorcist, The Evil Dead and Night of the Living Dead.

I also found The Shining, The Ring and Poltergeist intense.

The Shining is, hands down, the scariest film i've ever seen. It's the only film that actually produces images scarier than what your mind has conjured up while watching the movie. The first time I saw it (I was ten or eleven) I couldn't sleep for weeks, and I still get uneasy everytime I see it now.

Anyways, The Thing and It freaked the shit out of me when I was little. So did the ghosts in Raiders of the Lost Ark. I used to always have to "get some drink" at that scene for years. Nowadays, The Grudge, Ju-On and the Ring all freaked me out (the first time way more then repeat viewings though), and though the movie itself ended up being subpar, the elevator and calligraphy scenes from The Eye were scary as hell.

Scariest film i've seen in theaters. I've seen a lot of scarier, older films on video.

The Thing is my favorite horror flick, still holds up as a really great movie even today.

Black Christmas is one of the best horror films of all time. Scary as hell, too. Good pick, BKB.

Ahhh, I gotcha. Damn, what are some of the other scarier ones, because you seemed REALLY rattled by The Grudge.

I'm serious Man.. There aren't many movies that are as unnerving to me as this one, even by todays standards and watched in the proper setting preferrably with no lights on makes this even more effective.... It now occurred to me that in that film, that was a Young Margot Kidder in that movie before SUPERMAN or The Amityville Horror...
