Eastwood's distinct legacy is the fact that he has been able to maintain a high level of performance quality (be it acting, writing and/or directing) for nearly 50 years. No other Hollywood personality has had as long a sustained career as Eastwood. A big TV debut star in the 50's (Rawhide); a ground-breaking western star in the 60's (as John Wayne was winding down his career); a genre-defining action-drama star in the 70's with Dirty Harry Callahan; diverse, risky and successful acting roles in 80s (Bronco Billy, Firefox, Palerider, White Hunter Black Heart - a tribute to John Huston, Heartbreak Ridge and Pink Cadillac); superior director and romantic lead in the 90's (Unforgiven, Bridges); and now even more in the 21st Century.
Almost any Hollywood personality would love to have just one of those decades as a description on their biography. Eastwood's excellence spans six decades.
To say he has had one of the most successful and important careers in this history of cinema is very easy to say. For anyone to say his influence has been minimal is to be myopic.

He's my grandfather's favorite! Where my grandfather stands on relevance is not important, but anyway. I would consider him up there with the best. I'm not too familiar with his career, but he has made some great films.

He's a much better director than an actor IMO.
And Chaplin is the most famous face ever in motion picture history, his tramp character is the most famous character in motion pictures, nothing comes close.

Give you Chaplin for the first half of the century. But where would John Wayne, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda and others stand. Anyone up there. And Clint.
