6 more reviews added apparently between three minutes ago and now. I'm not sure what that's about.

Good news. They're all positive, although the average rating has gone down one tenth. 7.9/10 now.

Wow, it has better reviews than both The Departed and United 93.

I was expecting it to be well-received, but more in the 70%-75% range. This is absolutely wonderful, though.

That's going a little overboard. Percentage can be misleading, so we have to take a look at all the numbers. The Departed has an 8.2 average at RT (8.0 COTC), 85 at MC, and 91 at BFCA. United 93 has 8.2 average at RT (8.1 COTC), 90 at MC, and 95 at BFCA. And The Queen is still the best reviewed film of the year with 8.4 (8.7 COTC), 91, and 95.

That being said, the reviews Casino Royale is getting are simply awesome.

Holy shit. I didn't even realize the total number of reviews so far. I assumed it had around 20 reviews or so and it'd drop down to 75-80% soon, but that's incredible.

wtf?

I just checked RT and this is like one of the best reviewed movies of the year?

Will I have to go check it out now?

If it maintains its positive count after around 20 more reviews... it's up there with The Queen.

95% is better than FotR and RotK. Bond for Best Picture! Seriously. I'd love to shake up the Academy. (The best shake-up was Depp's nom for PotC...)

I'm happy that this is doing so well. I think Daniel Craig is not too good-looking, but I never feared for the acting. When Bond movies start looking too much like Austin Powers, it's time for a reboot. Sounds like a heavy dose of realism was just what they needed. I don't know much about this movie, but I'm heartened that I haven't yet heard about some dim-bulb babe being passed off as a nuclear physicist.

Was there any indication (pre-release buzz) that this film would be so well received?

My last update for the night.

130 reviews counted

Fresh: 124
Rotten: 6

96% still

At this point you almost have to question the sanity of the six negative reviewers.

Actually I do question this one.

Other "mature" story elements also are poor substitutes for supervillains and gadgets; who wants to see Bond learn a lesson about ego, as if he were Greg Brady in his "Johnny Bravo" phase?

To answer his question - pretty much all of the other critics at this point.

Oddly enough though, he still gave it a B-. Which is another thing. From the negative reviews I've read, none of them have been overly negative, and for a Bond film that's simply amazing.

Bump this for one reason and one reason only.

Roger Ebert reviewed it - Gold Bond
