What? Wings of Desire was an absolutely terrible movie.
I hated it a lot.

As noted by my love for many Fellini films, clearly I'm drawn to circus performers. I think I just really liked looking at the trapese artist scenes mixed up with beat up run-down images of Berlin.

Michael, you should watch Moolaade with us. We're going to be disbanding soon and moving on to other threads and I was so hoping to get at least ten people to watch it. Jon and I have reached 5 already, but we'd like to get as many people to see this as possible.

Of the very, very top of my head:
-Almodovar's filmography (mostly Women on the Verge and All About My Mother)
-Blow-Up (foreign, not foreign language)
-La Dolce Vita (an inspired pick, I know)
-4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days
-The Passion of Joan of Arc
-The Bicycle Thief

Also, some anime: Spirited Away, Paprika

Diving Bell would probably be up there but I don't really consider it a foreign film (it certainly is foreign language though).

I'm sort of distraught about the high number of recent films...I need more exposure!

Wings of Desire certainly isn't the worst movie i've ever seen. But the whole thing struck me as a very pretentious exercise in film-making. I just didn't appreciate it. I didn't feel there was a significant story of interest there. They kind of botched a decent concept.

Try more of it. And 90s/80s isn't exactly old, is it?

I watched Three Colours Blue and Mediterraneo last week, Bringing my summer foreign viewings tally up to 15

3CB was great, a little overwinded and "arty" but still an engaging movie.

MT was very weak. Like a poor man's Walk in the Clouds.

MT is pretty bad, yea. I don't care for it.

You need to watch Red. That's where the money's at. As great as Blue is (Top material for me), Red blows it away.

White, on the other hand... eh. Solid.

Kypade, I assume you liked Persona. I have noticed that there is usually a divide between the Persona and C+W cults.

Yep. I don't think anything can top The Seventh Seal (boring favorite, I know), but Persona is awesome too.

And to be fair, I probably should give Cries and Whispers another shot...it was one of the first Bergmans (and foreign films in general) I saw and I think I had unreasonable expectations (after Wild Strawberries and Seventh Seal).

But in any case, any fan of Bergman's is a winner. Hope ya stick around.
