It opens this Friday in limited release andstars Julie Delpy, who also wrote it and directed it. It's getting positive reviews so far.

Sounds promising. I read an article that says she lied to get it made by saying it was a romantic comedy, haha.

I'm a big Before Sun... fan, so I'll have to give this one a look. That said, from what I've read it may hit a bit too close to home...

I too am somewhat interested largely due to my fervent Jesse/Celine fandom. I'll probably have to wait until DVD though to see it.

Honestly, as much as I like Delpy, the first time I heard about this film for some reason I instantly thought disaster. So it is good to see all the positive reviews. While I don't really expect it to be great or come anywhere near the quality of Before Sun(set/rise) I am now really looking forward to seeing it. Which unfortunately won't be for another few weeks since it will start playing the last day of the month here...

I saw the trailer for this a month ago and almost died.

yay. julie delpy. she wrote, directed, scored, edited, and stars.

ya, she told the studio, apparently, it was along the lines of another before sunset to get it made, then changed everything.

Can't wait to see it. I'm seeing it 2mor0 whether a certain someone can make it or not :P

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!!

Not quite Before Sunset (then again, really what ever will be :P ) but it's a great film about relationships and definitely one of my very favorites of the year.

I was discussing with Christian how Paris seems to be the theme for film this year...

Paris Je T'aime
2 Days in Paris
Dans Paris
Rush Hour 3
Bourne Ultimatum
Ratatouille (we forgot to mention this Christian!)

Lots of funny offbeat humor in this one...

Anyone who's had a cross-cultural romance will recognize the drill. A million little jokes about the subtleties of language and culture that are so easily missed by the self-absorbed and hopelessly culturally dyslexic.

In a way, this is the sequel to the abysmal Once from earlier this year. Only this time told with honesty instead of apathy, and healthy cynicism instead of drama-queenism. This is a far better movie, and yet far from perfect itself. It does tend to veer radically to and fro. The one review blurb from the New Yorker I saw was: " is not a vanity project. It is an insanity project.".... and I think he meant it as negative, though that is what recommends this film to me...

Julie Delpy has simply delved into her own experience and served up a close-up view inside. It's kinda like angst-porn.

One thing's for sure - - no one's gonna mix this film up with the Before Sunrise series...

And after all that blather above, I still liked it - - liked it a lot. Delpy made me laugh and mourn while recalling how life goes - - often at the same time...

6 out of 5.

Flawed characters. Check!
Off-beat humor veering into black comedy. Check!
Paris. Check!
Julie Delpy's actual family (even the cat). Check!
Daniel Bruhl ( :wub2: ) playing a fairy/terrorist. Check!

I thought this movie was fantastic. Probably one of the most realistic portrayals of characters and situations in a relationship, whether on a sexual or family level. Loved the little touches of foreshadowing in it, BTW (Marion mentioned a book that Jack read, Collective Dynamic of the Small World Network - so Jack kept on looking for people he knew... turns out, Marion is the one
who'll end up bumping into her ex-'s).

The use of narration as a plot device brought it down a notch and it was a bit sitcom-y in spots but overall a very strong debut for Delpy. Really glad it's down well at the box office and I'm now really looking forward to her next film (with Daniel Bruhl in a leading role!!!)

I want to see this also. I don't have a girlfriend to go with though. That sort of limits my options.

Trust me man, this isn't the sort of film I'd want to take my girlfriend to. So I forgot to say anything but yeah, I liked it but wasn't bowled over. The dialogue and situations are very funny, and although I first found Goldberg grating he grew on me. But yeah, the ending really felt lazy to me. Overall it's worth seeing and has some well done scenes but doesn't really come together that well. It's not hard to see that this is a directorial debut.

I picked Delirious over this because I wasn't sure of the response to this film - not that it matters, but, yknow, Michael Pitt is hot and all...

More seriously, this is playing within 5 minute walking distance to me, so I'll make time to see it. Glad to see favorable reviews.
