If La La Land doesn't win I'll eat a shoe.

Moonlight got a boost tonight with the clowns at HFPA devoting like an hour to slobbering on La La Land. The Screenplay prize was a real eyeroller.

La La Land setting the Golden Globe record might actually work a little against the film now as some Oscar voters might start perceiving the film as overhyped (similar to what I think happened with Boyhood).

The trend of early "locked" frontrunners visibly faltering at some point down the line started with The Social Network.

Which is too bad cuz TKS sucks and the upheaval of "locked" narratives kinda undermines the significance of the precursors.

it feels like the DGA nominees are the only locks at this point for BP. hidden Figures and Fences seem the next strongest, a notch ahead of Silence, Hell or High Water and Hacksaw Ridge. I am guessing for a 7 nominee year.
