on topic, in the last 18 of 20 Oscar races, the film that led with nominations, won BP.
Doesn't mean Million Dollar Baby can't be the third, lesser films have beat those odds.
Just means you can't completely discount Oscar history. I'm not discounting history, that's why I say Marty won't win. :-({|= #-o
That's it exactly. That fact + Oscar history + the so called pity award = odds in the favor of Marty and his film.
I hope enough AMPAS members saw Sideways to put both films to bed.
That would be the best. [-o<

I think Sideways received the final punch when Giamatti was snubbed in favor of Eastwood.
Also, when was the last time the movie with the LEAST noms won?

Well, Payne recieved more from the critics than either of them. How's that workin' out? #-o Eastwood's got the Best Director within his grips. It's his to lose as much as the Best Actress is Hillary's to lose at this point.
I do agree that the Giamatti snub sealed the fate of Sideways. It's very much the Lost in Translation of this year, and if M$B beats it in the screenplay, best picture is just a foregone conclusion. For that reason, I don't see M$B taking that award. They have to keep some suspense.

And once again, I'll remind of The Pianist who could beat Chicago in Screenplay and Direcing and won the Best Actor award above that as well and yet lost Best Picture.

How many tech awards did A Beautiful Mind win?

The last film to win Best Picture with the fewest overall nominations of the five nominees was oddly enough, another comedy. Annie Hall had 5 nominations (tied with Goodbye Girl) in 1977. Annie Hall won 4.
A Beautiful Mind was nominated for
Picture - won
Director - won
Actor
Supporting Actress - won
Adaptation - won
Editing
Make-Up
Score

A Beautiful Mind was up against a fantasy movie and fantasy movies usually don't win. The Aviator is a completely different deal.

A Beautiful Mind was a Fantasy Movie? WTF are you talking about. It was a true story of a brilliant man who has pyschological problems.
Does everyone consider that a fantasy movie?
