I watched the nominations live before heading out the door this morning. I'm glad I did, too.
No BIG surprises, but some pleasant ones. Also some not-so-pleasant ones, though.
Thoughts:
- Clint Eastwood! I called it last night. 
- I was JUST thinking about Mike Leigh's chances about a week ago. I should have posted something. Then I would have been awesome.
- Kate Winslet.
- The Village for best score? That's right.
- Shark Tale? Shark TALE? SHARK TALE? They're kidding, right? I'm going to pretend they are.
- Lemony Snicket! Who woulda thunk! (well, I guess it makes sense)
I'm plesed, though.
Let the dirty campaigns begin.

I just noticed how many are first time nominees. Ther eare 10, but I don't know how this compares to last year.

After seeing the list of nominations, i thnk Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorcese try to get what they lost last 2 years when GoNY is nominated.

Isn't it ironic that Hollywood mocks Gibson for drunk driving yet praises Polanski who molested a child? Or praises Edward Kenedy who killed someone while drunk driving?

Alda was lucky to get a nod, imo. He just wasn't that good. I'm willing to go as far as to say Kate B. was just as good as he was. Hayden-Church might win, but I think it'll come down to Freeman vs. Owen.

I really hope either Clive Owen or Morgan Freeman can get it. I thought Thomas Haden Church was great; however, Morgan Freeman was quietly wonderful while Clive Owen was explosive.
It's a shame more people haven't seen Closer. Clive Owen and Natalie Portman were both fantastic, and it seems like they're just finally getting recognized.

Haha...I knew you were going to say something about that the moment I saw you had posted. :razz: Well, I guess I'm trying to say that Alan doesn't deserve a nod, because he just wasn't that good.
And I'm with you about Closer. Sony should've released it to more theaters. Hopefully more people will catch it on DVD.

It's a good way for Clive to leave 2004. With King Arthur, it could have been a much more devistating time.
