Wasn't there some sort of falling out between Rodriguez and the Academy? Or was that someone else....

Yes, giving a co-directorship to anybody is bad. He quit the DGA over it I think.

I like the Narnia and Kong ads, but the funniest recent ones have to be WOTW and Charlie, I mean they were good, but picture good?

Big update at oscarwatch.
Lotsa the same ebay ones, but without the watermarks.
Kong, Cinderella Man, Geisha have a lot.
Some for New World, Sin City, Hustle Flow, Match point, and bunch others, too.
I don't like many, at least not enough to upload em myself..
except this half of Geisha:
i dunno, I've always liked simplicity, and the images are just too gorgeous to ignore.
and this one, for potter is nice:
no mention of art direction or cinematography, though?

Potter folks probably think they have Art Direction and Cinematography in the bag, which is not a good way to focus their FYC.

Yeah, the left half of that Geisha one is stinking bootiful.
There are also some Kong ones that are pretty nice.

And guys, remember if you're going to post ads, don't link directly from OscarWatch. They request every year that you simply upload them onto another site (I use imageshack.us) if you want to post them.

So much for the non-munich campaign...
That Spielberg one is great, though.

Prolly cause they're sensing that it won't have universal acclaim. Variety's review was meh-ish, and I doubt they have any agenda, aside from discussing money matters.

Spielberg is being campaigned for through Universal.

That's a nice thought (and obviously what is happening here) BUT, this is what I read in regards to the 'campaign':
Quote: Spielberg Just Says No
Nikki Finke on Spielberg's decision NOT to campaign:
There will be no press junket, no premiere and, most importantly, no Oscar marketing campaign beyond trailers and posters for Steven Spielberg’s movie Munich, I have learned. This dicey decision to have no traditional publicity for the film before and after it opens December 23 is the director’s alone. He will not even be giving press or broadcast interviews. “The official strategy is for the movie to speak for itself,†an insider told me this week. “All they’re going to do is just show the movie to people. You have to be Steven Spielberg to get away with that.â€Â
But competitors think that may also be because Spielberg may have snagged the cover of Time magazine, which no one will confirm.
For months now, Munich has been touted as the Oscar front-runner, even when no one had seen the film. The first invitation-only screenings of Munich will start after December 1. Executives for Universal, one of the producers/distributors of the film along with DreamWorks, are scheduled to see the completed movie November 30.
I read that as NO OSCAR CAMPAIGN by Spielbergs mandate. That has obviously changed. Yknow?

Because the FYCs aren't just for the Academy.

I have yet to see any real standout ads.
Crash's have been pretty good. Match Point's have been kinda nice, too. And Munich.
We've still got time, though...
