This is still a tough category to predict. I'm sure one or two actors from Munich will be in here. If Brokeback Mountain really goes over big, Jake Gyllenhaal should get in here. Not sure about the rest.

Anyone thinking Bob Hoskins for Mrs. Henderson Presents? If Dench is already going to be grapping attention, I saw the trailer today and it looks like Hoskins has a sizeable role in the movie as well. Looks good as supporting roles tend to sneak in a few comedies/dramedies. Plus he's a long time veteran.

I think he's the strongest contender in this category actually. Plus, he's got a nude scene!

Yah? I hope he gets a nom. I really like him alot. I've seen him in a ton of movies, but he sort of never has an asuming role. He really doesn't have "loud" performances if you discount Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He's pretty good, and hasn't been nominated since one time in the mid 80's. Henderson looks like the perfect movie for acting nods too.

All I know is someone from Crash deserves to win. Really, they should put the name of every actor in that film in a hat and whoever is drawn, wins. They are all deserving, even Ryan Phillippe (Never thought I'd say that).

Someone from Crash will get nominated too. It would be a shame if no one didn't. I think either Cheadle (who gained on profile immesnly after Hotel Rwanda) or Mat Dillon (who would deserve it the most) with Terrence Howard having an outside shot. He has had a good year.

WOW. This has been pushed back quite a lot!
Anyway.... Like all the other acting categories I have done, here is the quick reference list from which I believe we will have all our nominees from...
George Clooney, Syriana
Frank Langella, Good Night, and Good Luck
Paul Giamatti, Cinderella Man
JAke Gylenhaal, Brokeback Mountain
colin Farrell, The New World
Christopher Plummer, The New World
Ken Watanabe, Memoirs of a Geisha
Kevin Costner, Upside of Anger
Geoffrey Rush, Munich
Daniel Craig, Munich
Peter Sarsgaard, Jarhead
Bob Hoskins, Mrs. Henderson Presents
Matt Dillon, Crash
Terrence Howard, Crash
Don Cheadle, Crash
My (premature) predictions...
George Clooney
Jake Gylenhaal
Someone from Crash (Howard)
Someone from Munich (Rush)
Bob Hoskins
alternate: Someone from New World (Farrell/Plummer)

A rather confusing category this is. Bob Hoskins hasn't gained any momentum from the early awards, so he is in pretty shaky ground now. Right now I see
George Clooney, Syriana
Paul Giamatti, Cinderella Man
Jake Gylenhaal, Brokeback Mountain
Matt Dillon, Crash
as four likely nominees with probably a Munich guy filling in the fifth spot.

NO WAY. Matt Damon's work had more layers.
Clooney only has one emotion, snarly.
What's with the Syriana obsession of late?

I wasn't impressed with Clooney in Syriana. I'll keep routing for Siddig as Syriana's BSA winner!!!

I think this is a single big category in which there is not a single lock for a nom, even though Gyllenhaal and Clooney are very likely.

I'm afraid Giamatti will be snubbed once again, especially considering that this time his performance was actually worse than in Sideways and American Splendor...

No, Lecter, you've got it all wrong! That's when the academy loves to award someone. When they don't actually deserve it.

But that didn't work for Scorsese

I do think that Giamati will be snubbed once again, though. His performance wasn't nearly as strong in CM as in Sideways anyway.
I think that's why he'll get it
American Splendor and Sideways weren't the Oscar's "thing"
But as soon as he does formulaic Hollywood, he's in the club!
It's kind of why I'm hoping Uma doesn't get nominated this year or ever for that fact if she doesn't bring anything better than KB. I'd rather her go down as one of the biggest snubs in recent history rather have them award her for something else that isn't as strong or that takes away from somebody else.

But Sideways even had a better release date and bigger box-office than Cinderella Man.

Ya but he was up against Clint Eastwood in the Lead category for a comedy!!!
He's up against like no one for a dramatic Oscar-formulaic role!
