 Predict Oscar nom shockers
Well, Thursday's the day. We got a few last year (Affleck/Bigelow missing Director) which "frontrunners" do you think will miss a nomination? What surprise nominations will be announced Thursday? Or will we get none?

 Re: Predict Oscar nom shockers
Jennifer Garner receiving a "random" nomination for Dallas Buyers Club is the surprise many people seem to be half expecting.

ehhhhh I think that's only happening if we get a nomination for Jean-Marc Vallee for director.

 Re: Predict Oscar nom shockers
Based on the strength Dallas Buyers Club has, I'm going to agree the biggest possibility for a SHOCK!NOMINATION! is Jennifer Garner. Not to mention she's basically Hollywood royalty at this point being married to Affleck. I'm still not predicting it though.

 Re: Predict Oscar nom shockers
I do not believe Franco has a chance, even though I adore the performance. It is still my favorite performance by a supporting actor this year. BUT he has no received any love from the most significant precursors, and the film is way, way (x100) too far-out to receive a surprise Oscar nomination. And I believe Franco has become a figure much of the Hollywood establishment is slightly uncomfortable with.
Any surprise will be a type of coattails nomination: Jennifer Garner in Best Supporting Actress, for instance, or Will Forte or Steve Coogan in Best Supporting Actor.

 Re: Predict Oscar nom shockers
If Hansel & Gretel is nominated for Best Makeup, people will say, "HA HA! HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS IS AN OSCAR NOMINATED FILM!"

 Re: Predict Oscar nom shockers
not really shockers, but I'm gonna predict...
Spike Jonze or Scorsese will get in for Best Director, Greengrass or Payne will be out. there will be a "surprise" Best Supporting Actor nom (maybe Will Forte or something) Saving Mr. Banks will get no nominations

 Re: Predict Oscar nom shockers
There will be 10 Best Picture nominees and Philomena will be one of them.
Will Forte will be nominated BSA.
Sally Hawkins will be nominated BSA.

Sally Hawkins will be nominated BSA. Dunno if either of these is a shocker. Philomena wouldn't really be a surprise (it's Harvey's main pony in this weak year for him), and Sally Hawkins is probably #6 for Supporting Actress so she could easily get a coattail nomination.

I wouldn't be shocked if Best Director looked like Steve McQueen, Alfonso Cuaron, David O. Russell, Spike Jonze and Alexander Payne or the Coens

Sure, it's great. But nominated for an OSCAR?!

He's mentioned throughout the supporting actor threads and conversations on WOKJ. Because of that, it won't be a shocker.
