You have to realize that these guys are quite arrogant from all their victories (even if they are by luck), they were not going to do those things unless they have a really good reason so other than Strange's decision I don't think the others were wrong. Iron Man himself told that in his second scene with Strange. They knew that they were going with this angle but it was pretty much explained for me. Though I am ok if few people thought those were stupid decisions because at first that was my reaction as well.

Magnus makes very good points though this is just what Marvel does. The tension at the end of THE DARK KNIGHT is significant even though it's just 2 boats of people at stake because it's very well done. This is half the universe and there's not a hint of tension.

These are tremendous spectacle but the McDonalds comparison is very apt. I would venture to guess that McDonalds customers are the same people going to see these movies.

Nolan, where are you? SAVE US FROM MEDIOCRITY!

Yep. The entire world have and are going to continue to go to see these movies.

We all know Disney's Marvel is (well-crafted) fluff and isn't even remotely attempting to be something like Nolan's Batman or even X-Men, but, on that note, is it really better when superhero films DO take themselves seriously and kill off a bunch of main characters? Remember X-Men: The Last Stand? That's probably the most shocking example of a big superhero series not giving a fuck and murdering/de-powering half the main cast. And yet it was cold and unsatisfying and left the fans wishing it had never happened, until they had to literally retcon it later on via time travel plot device.

Maybe boring side characters like Loki and Gamora dying is what is best for this type of film.

The point about Thor is correct and that subplot should have just been cut out.

You are wrong about Vision. What kind of heroes are they if they just sacrifice a team member so willingly? That is what Thanos would do. We must be better than our villians, not justify behavior by saying “well they would do it us.”

The first Transformers is a fucking popcorn classic though for whatever reason most movies from 2000-2007 period seem to be forgotten ala movies from much of the 1970s.

I'll never blame someone for being upset with a film where good is the enemy of great.

there is zero truth in this statement.

Wrong 110%. Spiderman 1 and 2, X2, Casino Royale, Pirates 1, Transformers 1 all forgotten in the pre Marvel era. Not even LOTR gets much buzz these days.

My question would be, what are you guys expecting out of it?

I mean, I'm not a fan of superheroes, so as long as it is entertaining and well-made it satisfies me.

I'm the anti-Disney one here, so it's a bit ironic that you are only now using it against Infinity War/Marvel now when it's been there for years and years.

What is your opinion of Star Wars? Because that's already been hacked to death. Not just down to Disney, but nevertheless all of those films are soulless as well.

It's hypocrisy of fanboys at its finest because they can't admit how inconsequential their franchises are.

??? What is this mess. All those films with the possible exception of X2 are iconic.

I can’t speak for all, but the unwavering popularity of the MCU can rub people the wrong way because as good as they are, none are blockbuster masterpieces

Well I love it and I'm invested for as long they make them or until they start doing a string of bad flicks.

Plus, it is just stupid.
Quill definitely should not have tried to kill Gamora. It’s completely against the character of someone who is still not over the death of his mother. This subsequently would have given the “Wanda kills Vision” and “Quill flips out over Gamora’s death” scenes more weight. Gamora trying to sacrifice herself is just what heroes do.

This argument also supports your point about disconnection though.

And its unfair to say that nothing matters. The split in Civil War did cost the team (and universe) the victory here.

That’s actually why that scene worked for me. He loves her so much that although he struggles mightily he still brings himself to pull the trigger.

This is awesome in so many ways. Easily the best of the Avengers team up movies and likely Top 2 or 3 of all the MCU films.

This is in my top 100 somewhere.

I pretty much love the whole damn thing. I would have liked maybe another minute of Dr Strange v Thanos. Gimme more spells. Vision and Scarlet at the end was almost getting me. The use of the words Viz and Nat probably could have done without.

Davey Jones in Dead Man's Chest is still the most impressive motion capture IMO

He's even more ~fantastical~ yet looks utterly real. It's still hard to believe.
