Re: Network
Mostly just look at my sig. Sidenote: I am very disappointed that so many people claim the ending is "over-the-top". I can't believe how perfect I found this ending, the entire point was the build up. The scene with Beale getting yelled at by the industry guy (need to see this again) was leading up to it. That was where the film excelled past the "realism" that it may have seemed, and was anointed the title of "surreal". The finale just capped all of this off, it would have sucked if it wasn't over the top Also it made a dark but necessary point to how greedy and inhuman people in this world have become.

Re: Network
This and The Truman Show are great companion pieces. The latter is another film that's aged really, really well.

Re: Network
A bit slow, but by God, FINCH steals the show and gives an all time performance.

Re: Network
Satire doesn't get much more biting than this. A masterclass in writing and performance.

Re: Network
I need to revisit this. I don't think it quite registered with me when I first saw it a few years ago.

Re: Network
Pretty much what everyone has said here, it is flawed but indeed fantastic. I'm surprised and just how modern the film feels though despite being made 36 years ago. I guess I'm one of the few here though that seemed to enjoy Faye Dunaway. She handles the downward spiral of Diana very well and the last scene between her and Max sets in all into place quite well. Finch is great and I also thought Duvall shined in his scenes. Can't wait to watch again.

Re: Network
Watching the one same clip over and over (on Best Of type programs) while important people talk about how important this movie was really didn't do this movie justice.
Because Network is actually hilarious! I had no idea. Why didn't anybody tell me? I'll admit I was sitting there for a good chunk of the movie wondering where it was going before everything finally clicked. The one scene where Howard Beale is having the "real world" explained to him was my favorite. I can see how it influenced so many of the future satirical films I love.
9.9/10 - an instant classic that only took me 50 years to see!

Re: Network
A film that still very much holds up with lessons still applicable for the 2020s. And of course Peter Finch ate. He was fantastic.
