Quote:
It (also referred to as Stephen King's It) is a 1990 horror television miniseries based on the novel of the same name. The story revolves around an inter-dimensional predatory life-form that is simply referred to as "It", which has the ability to transform itself into its prey's worst fears allowing it to exploit the fears and phobias of its victims, while also disguising itself when hunting. The main protagonists are "The Losers Club", or "The Seven", a group of social outcasts who discover "It" and vow to destroy him by any means necessary. The series takes place over two different time periods, the first when the Losers first discover "It", and the second when they're called back to defeat "It", who has resurfaced. "It" mostly takes the form of a sadistic clown called "Pennywise the Dancing Clown", which it uses to lure children and kill them. It takes place in the fictional town of Derry, Maine, USA between the two aforementioned timelines; 1960 and 1990.

It aired as a two-part television movie on November 18 and November 20, 1990 on ABC, and loosely follows the plot of the novel. The miniseries was filmed in New Westminster, British Columbia in late 1989.

Amen! The only thing "brilliant" about IT is the book, though sometimes it drags. The movie is dull, stupid, and cheesy. Eddie's reaction to the Placebo effects was so stupid. This may not be as bad as The Stand, but it's still bad. Everyone was miscast, except Tim Curry, who if he was not acting in a stupid made-for-TV movie, would have brung me nightmares for years... but in this one Pennywise is cheesy. Tim Curry overacts all the time but he could have been a great Pennywise if his character wasn't so dumb!! The only part of the book that made me say "This is dumb!" was when that Edward kid died by the lagoon whatever monster. This movie had me saying "This is dumb!" throughout. The Stand was a better book, but a worser movie. I give this a D.

IT, is my favourite book and it took me years to actually see this film because I already had pictures in my head as to what Ben Handscome would look like and what Stuttering Bill and so on. I just didn't want to see Jack Tripper play Ben and John Boy as Bill. But when I finally did, it was actually quite impressive. It is a tough book to adapt but they did an admirable job with the material.

8./10

The new movie (rumours only still) should be a 5 part series (2 hours each) on HBO with the nonstop gore and sex the book has (but just ignore the part when the kids fuck!).

No movie has scared me for such a long time as this one did and it still ranks as one of the five scariest movies I have ever seen. I think since that movie I have quite a distaste for clowns in general, hehe. The movie is really really well-done, especially if you keep in mind that it is a TV mini-series. The novel is a hard piece to adapt and they did a great job with it. The best parts of the movie are the ones with the little kids. Those are geniunly creepy while they still manage to have a good deal of ddrama in them. The movie is all-round well acted and the scares are well-played. Tim Curry is menacing as Pennywise and ranks as one of the ten best horror movie villians I have ever witnessed. The only disappointing part of the movie is the final battle between the grown-up kids and IT, but I suppose there weren't many ways to do it better (since it was still pretty faithful to the novel). It is my favorite Steven King adaptation, bar none.

Post IT book spoilers ahead!
This movie was not scary and Pennywise is comical (he could've been much more scary IF it wasn't for cable TV!). So you know what they should do? Remake this in a 10-hour 5 day miniseries on HBO and adapt it almost like the book (like don't include the 11 year old gang bang or Patrick Hocksetter's "friendly" touch on Henry Bowers, and don't include too much backstory like on Patrick or that Eddie kid who gets killed by the lagoon dude). That would rule to see Pennywise as menancing instead of wimpy and comical. In the movie it seems like IT just tried to scare and taunt the kids and adults instead of actually try to kill them like in the book, which is what I hate the most.

Its been a really long time since I saw it but it was one of the creepiest and most characterically developed series from Stephen King. Not as good as the Stand or Storm of the Century but its oneof the best. Pennywise is truely the most evil of all clowns that it makes Dr Evil look like Mother Theresa

8.6/10 A-
