 Re: Superbad
I totally understand the references to gay sex. Did nobody catch the references to the morning after awkwardness after a drunk night? Waking up next to someone and you don't know how or why? I mean, it didn't happen, and I'm not saying it did, but I get why some would think.

actually, no sex happened. watch the scene again. they woke up wearing clothes and in their own sleeping bags while at night, they went to bed drunk with little to no coordination.
What did happen though is that they DID share a moment ... a moment that completely weirded them out. Some new feelings were developed which is why towards the end of the film, when both get the girl they wnated, they looked back at each other.

Think back to your own early sexual experiences, and you may find that... 1. Wearing clothes 2. Returning to your own sleeping bag 3. Being drunk with little coordination ...are hardly barriers to fumbling adolescent sexuality.

 Re: Superbad
This has to be the weirdest debate I've ever seen over a movie, I'm *really* pretty confident the filmmakers didn't intend for the audience to think they had sex. That did not cross my mind at all when I saw it.

But you don't think anybody as eccentric as Bradley could have possibly seen the possibility fthat they had sex in that "morning after" scene?

Alright folks.. I enjoyed the hell out of The 40 Year Old Virgin, but will a 41 Year old man really enjoy a movie like SUPERBAD?? Be honest, will I hate this movie or what?? Is it strictly a teens movie??

Hilarious. Not quite as good as Knocked Up, but another hilarious addition to the Judd Apatow and crew collection.

 Re: Superbad
I saw it again on Sunday. It's even better the second time around. And surprisingly, for a 5-something showing, the crowd was sold out and really into it. Even some of the smaller jokes (Some that I didn't even pick up on before) were made funnier. For instance there is the introduction of Fogell where he walks into the classroom. Now I know it's not going to sound very funny here, but at the end of the conversation the three have during the class, the teacher looks at Fogell, and in only the perfect way a teacher knows how, sarcastically says/screams "HELLO?" See, told you it wouldn't be funny on here. But it's little things like that in the film that I didn't notice the first time, that make this film hilarious and smart. I think I'm going to have to bump up my grade to a full....

 Re: Superbad
This movie was much better than I thought it would be.
I thought it was going to be lame like Scary Movie 4 (that type of comedy which I detest). This was a movie that surprised me, and I didn't exactly have the best expectations going into it (I don't usually like modern teen comedies).

I remember this happening in my high school when "Scream" came out. I was already out of high school by the time "American Pie" rolled around, so I missed that one. The verbatim comments day after day can really become annoying after awhile. It's fun for a day or two, but then turns into a broken record.

This has got to be the best comedy I've seen since Clerks II and the funniest teen comedy ever since American Pie 2 (and that's been a wile ago!). Some of the suff was simply outrageously funny and vulgar, but this film's strengths are not the visual jokes, but much rather the great great great dialogues. Though the single funniest scene in the entire film is the whole penis-drawing story. Couldn't stop laughing at that one. The leads were all good and to my surprise, quite likeable. Jonah Hill was the best, he even rivaled McLovin, in my opinion.
It's just too bad that the filmmakers decided for the film to be this long as it simply can't keep up with the exhilarating first hour for the entire running time. About halfway into the film it just loses some steam and funny stuff becomes more rare. Thankfully, it picks up again towards the very end and delvers a couple more great laughs. A somewhat shorter film would have made this a comedy masterpiece, something I haven't seen in a long long time.

Saw it again, then reread my initial comments. I clearly wanted to enjoy this more than I actually did. It's just....not all that good.

 Re: Superbad
As hilarious as I was expecting, but also surprisingly genuine and heartfelt. The relationship between the two leads is absolutely spot on and perfectly blends comedy and drama. This emotional core elevates the film above most other teen comedies and puts it right alongside American Graffiti, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Dazed & Confused. And it's also (probably) the funniest film of the year thus far. Everything from physical slapstick to witty one-liners are utilized and it all works fantastic. The subplot with McLovin and the cops takes away a bit from the central story, but it's so hilarious that it doesn't really matter. The film does run a bit long, and some of the middle should have be trimmed, but, overall, this is still a modern teen comedy classic.

Really, about 10-15 minutes less in the middle part (the gag-free zone) and it would have been a comedy classic for me.

 Re: Superbad
AAs as I wanted it to be and more. Funniest movie of the year and the dialogue was just out of this world awesome, the rambling and ranting and all. The Apatow gang is genius. I think this was actually funnier than Knocked Up, though I'll have to watch both again numerous times. Hill, Cera, McLovin, what can you say, dead on. Rogan and Hader also did their great job without slowing down the plot. And in smaller roles the Becka and Jules girls did as well as they could be expected and added a lot to for example, the awkward mall scene. Btw, I love the part where he gets perioded on. Jonah's reaction... priceless.

Superawsome movie, funniest film i've seen in awhile. Love the end, we all one day have to part ways with our closest friends and go into the harsh reality of relationships and marriage A-

Wanted to mention I saw it in a hotel room again the other day, just as good as before. I love the part where Hader nightsticks the guy by the way.
One thing about the Apatow films, while they're meant for laughs, all 3 have this great common theme of change. They're kind of like a mini-trilogy that way.

 Re: Superbad
B+I enjoyed it more than The 40-Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up. Evan (I think that was his name...) was so cute. Not his looks, not bad looking, but his whole personality. And I loled several times whch almost never happens when I watch something, I only laughed maybe once or twice during Knocked Up.

 Re: Superbad
The funniest and truest movie about being a teenager ever made. It really is completely spot-on in every aspect, from how teens interact to how they think about girls to the extents to which they'll go to come across as cool to how their friendships function, I could not possibly conceive a more perfect teen movie. Even better, the adults who have seen it say it's so true that it even reminds THEM of what it was like being in high-school.
Not to mention McLovin.
