That's the name of the game series in Japan and other countries. They had to rename it Resident Evil in the States and Europe because the name Biohazard was already copyrighted in America by a band. The movies and games are released as Biohazard in Japan, China and most of Asia.
Didnt Resident Evil start in the states first when it was released in 94, and why would it even matter if its a different form of entertainment all together?

The games started in 1996, made by Capcom in Japan. They're going to call the films what they call the games in every country. If not, it'd be like a studio making a movie based on Halo and calling it something else other than Halo in America. And that'd be pretty stupid.

Re: Resident Evil: Extinction
Not as great as the first one but WAY better than the shitty sequel. I expect something not good and thats pretty much what i got. It was a bad movie but it was very entertaining, and thats what i look for this kind of movies. HATED the ending.
Somewhere in between the dumb, stylish fun of Resident Evil and the tone deaf nonsense of Apocalypse, Extinction is very by-the-numbers and much slower paced than the first two films. However, it's at least competently made throughout and has few moments that are truly awful. It's too bad the Resident Evil sequels couldn't live up to the promise of the first installment - I for one wonder why they didn't keep the musical score, because that really made a lot of scenes much tenser then they would've been otherwise.

Re: Resident Evil: Extinction
Yes, it's disappointing that the series didnt follow the same main idea/path as the first film, I mean it wasnt that good or anything, it was passable and looked like it was going into the right direction and followed the game quite well, then they totally switched styles around and just made the films into just another lame action franchise.

Re: Resident Evil: Extinction
Bleh. The 3rd act was simply horrendous which is a pity because there were nice flashes of style littered thru this film. Indeed I was amazed how well the whole zombie Crow scene was handled for one. But in the end they tried to shoehorn the frames of maybe 3 different films into one running time and it just came off rushed.

Re: Resident Evil: Extinction
Couple of disclaimers to start:
1. This is my first encounter with the series; didn't see either of the two prequels, nor did I play any of the games (yet)...
2. I've been a Milla Jovovich fanboy from wayback - - not just Ultraviolet back (though surely, KJ knows my devotion), and no, not just Zoolander back, no, I'm talkin' further back in time, before The Fifth Element, before even Dazed and Confused, yup - - even back before Return to the Blue Lagoon - - I'm talkin' 1989 Married With Children wayback:
Now... on to the review...
I loved Resident Evil: Extinction!
Very well done TEOTWAWKI film with the full sci-fi/horror spin - - Right on!!!
I found it's created reality to be very believable, very convincing - - what a great training film for the real thing when it goes down. (RE:E and this year's The Invasion would make a boffo double bill for any paranoid skeptic!)
(I hope I can squeeze it on to my 2007 top ten list, but there's been so darn many deservingly great movies this year... )
12 out of 5.

I don't get it. You've seen the other two movies, rated them less than D+, yet you still went to see RE:E.
What kind of a person would waste their time like that?

Re: Resident Evil: Extinction
A-
I LOVED this, so sue me! It's very silly and you have to leave your brain at the door, but at the same time, it was one of the most entertaining flicks I have seen in theatres this year. Not challenging, not thought-provoking...just some fun and cool action here. It'Äs a great way to spend some spare time. I thought it was a bit better than Apocalypse which I found to get worse after repeat viewings and maybe a tad worse than the first Resident Evil flick (which I love). Milla Jovovich (who I usually don't care for much) is great in the lead role. Ali Larter's Claire hasn't been used much here sadly and several good characters from the previous film were saldy killed off pretty quickly. The film flew by really really fast, though and I wasn't bored for a second. The action was mostly kick-ass, though the plotline was somehow repetitive. Giving Alice superpowers was probably not the best decision they could have made, but it didn't bother me too much. The zombie attack in Las Vegas rocked and the villain was better than Apocalypse's Nemesis (though his demise somewhat sucked). The ending...'twas okay.
So, yeah, this and Planet Terror are my "stupid, but hugely entertaining" movies of the year.

Re: Resident Evil: Extinction
I downloaded this on a whim a few weeks ago. I finally remembered/got around to watching it today. As a precursor, here are my thoughts on the series thus far: the first was very enjoyable and entertaining, with a touch of senselessness (which I liked). I honestly don't remember much from Apocolypse, so it couldn't have been that good.
For this one, perhaps it was my shoddy memory of the second movie, but I really had no idea what was going on for a while. The beginning is slow and aimless. By the time Alica and the caravan meet up, the movie finally gains some momentum which carries it through the end of the Vegas scene. Everything after that was completely uninspired. In fact, the whole movie was uninspired, except for the action in the middle third. Were it not for that this would be a terribly boring movie with no sense of direction at all.

Re: Resident Evil: Extinction
I enjoyed it a lot. Which is actually surprising because I'm not a fan of the first two. Well I have to see the first one again because i fell asleep every time I tried to watch it but the second one was pure garbage. Extinction is soooo much better. Loved the desert setting and the action was awesome, Milla Jovovich kicks ass. B+

Best of series..The other twos are shit......I have a weakness for Mad Max style things so I guess that explains the grade......Oh and a longer endfight would have been nice....This time the "Boss" could have kicked ass.......not like in the second one Mr Lame Robot Big Assault Man
