I've finally seen it, and I loved it. It's stylistically still Bond, but stylishly very modern. The cinematography is sublime, the score is engaging, and they both compliment each other wonderfully. This is without a doubt the best Bond movie ever. It's like a whole new level of Bond film-making. Gone is the action-adventure Bond, and in its place is a beautifully artistic, subtle yet sexy, spy action-thriller. I'm so happy to name this my favourite film of 2012 above Jack Reacher and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (not least because it's British) because it was made with finesse, precision and direction. Kudos to Sam Mendes, he executed his own vision very well, and it makes light of the Bond conventions (gadgets, shaken not stirred etc.) which I thought was a unique and risky touch, which paid off.
Javier Bardem, in one scene, became probably the best Bond villain ever, and by the end of the film he is the clear favourite. The only gripe I have is the beginning where they're riding on the rooftops with motorbikes, it was obviously a double and CGI backgrounds for the closeups. I thought that everything before the opening titles was pre-Mendes Bond, sort of like an homage to Bond of past, and everything post-opening titles was the new Bond. Talking of the opening titles, that was magic, especially when the title came up and Bond was sinking into the water, very artistic.
The scene in London was absolutely amazing. I was amazed with just how excited and into the scene I was. Using the underground in that way and the police outfit was all visually exciting, but the music leading up to the climax at Parliament was just film-making at its best. Everything in this movie was original. The scenes in Shanghai and Macau were good, but particularly Shanghai, the neon signs gave the impression of a nightclub feeling, and it was super cool. This is easily the best filmed Bond movie, the still shots, the photographic shots, it was beautiful. Each new location gave off a different colour scheme, and I've always loved movies that manage to differentiate locations with the use of colour.
I'd like to see it again. Now.

He gets pulled down a little further, then the Skyfall title comes up, and then it starts what is a brilliant opening title sequence with the theme song "Skyfall" by Adele. Really gets you in the mood for a Bond movie. In terms of cinematography, I loved the changing colour schemes/locations and the way each scene was shot to get the best out of the sites was nice, like these.. So sexy. And this is only a small portion of the great shots in this movie.

 Re: Skyfall
Oh man. When you begin to compare Skyfall to any other Bond movie, especially Roger Moore ones, it's like comparing Batman Begins to Batman: The Movie, it's just such a stark contrast.

 Re: Skyfall
I believe it bears the most atmospheric and emotional resemblance to On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

 Re: Skyfall
Okay - - hadn't heard it referred to that way - - it's Batman on IMDb and elsewhere. Algren wrote: Oh man. Then I agree with your premise that there is no comparison - - Batman remains the best Batman movie (though Mask of Phantasm gives it a run for the money) and Skyfall is nothing compared to the true James Bond movies.

Regardless of which is better, they are totally different to each other. I know you've tried to spin it in favour of your favourite movie, but that wasn't the point of my post.

 Re: Skyfall
Nope. I'm guessing it was one of the love scenes. They seemed to cut short.

 Re: Skyfall
Probably that once scene where Bond borderline rapes that woman in the shower.

 Re: Skyfall
They cut 70 minutes. It ends right after the Shanghai skyscraper fight. Scrolling Mandarin reveals Bond falls in love with China and decides to leave MI6 and stay.

 Re: Skyfall
Apparently it's less than 1 minute that was cut. Quote: China's board of film censorship often delete scenes that show the country, or its government, in a bad way.
They've removed part of the film that shows a Chinese security guard being overpowered, as well as references to the Chinese government being involved in torture.
Can anyone verify these scenes existing?

 Re: Skyfall
Yes.
Even within the political head space of the Chinese censors, they should have left the first moment. The assassin Bond fights with and then throws from the building shoots a security guard before entering the elevator. Since he is an antagonist and soon receives the most severe of punishments...
It is mentioned the Chinese tortured Silva when he was captured and disavowed by MI6. He tries to end the torture by committing suicide with the cyanide capsule, but it just disfigures him.

 Re: Skyfall
It didn't detract from how great the movie was. I remember Silva mentioning something about taking the cyanide capsule, but nothing about China. So less than a minute would be quite accurate. Probably less than 40 seconds.
I will check specifically for these scenes when I go again soon.

Silva worked for M when she was station chief in Hong Kong. He was given up to the Chinese in order to guarantee Hong Kong's safe transition to China.

 Re: Skyfall
I've never been crazy about Bond movies, but this was amazing. By far the best Bond I've seen. This is to Bond movies what "The Dark Knight" is to Batman. It's so expertly crafted and epic. The cinematography is breathtaking. So many shots in this film had me in awe. And the opening credits sequence featuring Adele's "Skyfall" are awesome. I didn't think I would ever love a Bond movie, but this blew me away. Wow!
