If a movie breaks any records, it will be POTC 2 (it could break any record out there - you're underestimating the power of this movie... everybody here is watching the original one on DVD again and again and again...)

Did Lois Lane find the fountain of youth to rejuvinate her age into her late teens. How did General Zod go from looking like he was in his 40s to looking like he is in his late 20s. It also doesnt help that after Superman 4, we had 3 different tv series about Superman. When people look at the new Superman, they will think in their minds that he doesnt compare with the guy from Smallville, Dean Cain and especially Christopher Reeves.
The biggest hurdle will be the comparision to Christopher Reeves.
I didn't realize this is supposed to take place 7 years after the last one. That makes your concern about age differences a very valid issue.

I don't understand why they simply didn't restart the franchise like they did with Batman. That worked very well, didn't it?

I would expect an $18 million opening, $23 million second day and $18 million Sunday. Obviously no records broken.

Are you guys insane? How is it that Superman, unlike Batman is going to set records? This is a franchise that ruled in the 70's and early 80's but then died out. It will not set records. It might do well, but don't expect more than 220-250 for this film.

I only see 1 or 2 people making those record setting predictions for Superman.
The rest of us dont think so, scroll through the thread Baumer

I have read the entire thread. When I said you guys, I meant the ones predicting it, not all of you.

This wont even make $250m total. I can see it doin gabout $230 or so but not much more. Infact - chalk up summer 2006 as another rather lacklustre summer BO wise. It wont improve till 2007 - which will be a copy of summer 2004 - Spidey 3, Shrek 3 and HP5.

It will make about 125m total, and that's if it is good. The story has been done to death in our era, with not only a series of movies but a television show about young superman. "Brandon Routh"? You have to be kidding me.

A Supeerman movie today has the potential to be very cheesy = flop.
But... i trust in Singer, so i think this will be like Begins = more drama, less action. I love it

Alright, I'm back.. I had to go to RT to find it which was like 11 or 12 pages back, but scroll down to the 20th post on this thread where Fettastic chimes in and you'll see it..
Quote:"Superman, after leading the gay pride parade, returns to find that he's a deadbeat dad to a superbaby."
Roll your eyes all you want, but the fact the storyline has him travelling to a planet that's already exploded both in the comics and in the 1st movie is completely assinine and having him as a deadbeat dad?? Come on, what the fuck is this?? The Politically correct SUPERMAN movie??? You can't ignore a major plotpoint like this by having him travel to a planet that no longer exists and get this: There going to have Marlon Brando in the movie, a man who's dead and will insert him in the film digitally.. I mean just stop already and furthermore, Brandon Routh loks very underwhelming as SUPERMAN and in the eyes of the public, Christopher Reeve will always and forever remain the Man of Steel and this is undisputed.. I won't hear it any other way.. This project never should've been in the cards..lol that synopsis is obviously FALSE.
The synopsis is not false and yes, apparently the storyline does have it as Superman being away for 7 years at a planet that exploded both in the comics and in the 78 version.. You can't ignore history and a pivotal plotpoint like this.. You just can't and the Christopher Reeve factor will play into this movie big time..

I don't know if this will break any records. I sure hope this is good since I consider Superman 1 and 2 to be the best movies of the genre.
