Whimps!
Anyways, considering that this is the team that gave us the FOTR, TTT, and ROTK trailers- three of greatest of all time- no one should be worried.

$270M
= $270,000,000
= $2.7*10^8
= $3*10^9
Great! Welcome to the club! \:D/

I'm tempted to go this high, but I can't.
It's quite possible though IMO. You know hype and marketing will be through the roof. With Jackson the trailer and its special effects will look great. Everyone knows the King Kong name. I'd say that gives it more of an advantage then movies such as Pearl Harbor, Troy, Van Helsing, and Planet of the Apes. All of those didn't have some huge fanbase like the largest openers, yet their properties were very well known.
The opening will be massive, yet the second week drop will probably be big, along the lines of 60%. Still, the holidays will greatly help and I'd guess something near 240m. But, I could see a 5 day opening weekend of about 115m which I think it would need to be on target.

I would like to exploit this moment to tell everyone once again how awful a film Meet the Fockers was.
The principal cast members, as well as the writers and the producers, deserve to be executed for it.
Too bad I'm against the death penalty.

Damn right it was awful, if it wasnt released so close to X-mas, I dont think it would even make 200 million at all. Im this close to joining the King Kong club after visualizing how a X-mas season was able to bring that turd Meet the Fockers over 250 million

It's possible, and I might join later. I think in general Xmas time is a bigger market for this type of film than hollywood realizes. That was the real legacy of LOTR, showing how well a summer movie can do at the end of the year.

After not seeing the trailer, I'm pretty confident this will pass $200m. While at it, I hope it destroys bo wise that Narnia flick.

I'm in. The trailer is just fantastic, and I don't see how it can't pass atleast $250 million.

Not in anymore. After seeing the trailer, it needs some CGI brushing up to do. While the trailer was still good, it doesnt quite grab me like the Spiderman 2, Matrix Reloaded and LOTR trailers do

I'm so in too! The trailer is awesome, and even though I am technically only predicting $280 million at the moment in the prediction thread to be conservative, I'm gonna join! This has easy potential to make $300+ million at the domestic box office.
PEACE, Mike

I second that. They better come with a better trailer.

Maybe it's worth reminding that this is a TEASER trailer. And yet it has more action and money shots than most final trailers. And as for CGI... It's not supposed to look "real", if that is what you mean. This flick happens in a stylished 30's movie version of the real world. This may sound like a bad argument on my part, but I thought the film LOOKS fantastic. It has a surreal, unreal edge to it, which I like. I'm much happier for this look than I would have been for a more realistic look.
I'll keep my original 260 million prediction at this point...

I will probably join this club later when the final trailer comes out, but for now I will simply ask a question: Besides the Mummy series, has any early-1900's adventure film done very well since 1990? We all know about the Indiana Jones phenomenon, but I'd say that was too long ago to be considered. By the way, I think $200M is the minimum KK can do.
DP07, you really think this film could drop 60% in its second weekend, despite opening on a Wednesday, having its second weekend in the middle of the holidays, and the film not being a sequel? I'd say 50% max.

I finally caught the trailer. I thought it was nothing special. Disappointing actually. Thats the problrm with expectations. They are often hard to meet.
It will make what it will make based on its own merits. Jackson success with LOTR may add a few million but King Kong after the opening weekend will have to stand on its own two feet.
Also everyone knows how the media love to put people up on a pedistal and then knock them off. Its just the nature of the business. After 3 critically acclaimed films whether King Komg is good or bad it may be Jacksons turn to take the knock.

Here is the type of run I see King Kong having (just for fun). This prediction will obviously change as people's hype grows and new trailers come out.
Opening day: $20M
3-day weekend: $62M
5-day weekend: $94M
Domestic total: $286M
Worldwide: $734M
Teehee. Oh and one thing I am pretty confident about: King Kong will outgross War of the Worlds both domestically and worldwide. :box2:

And I find that you are rather quick to dismiss any merits that the film may have. People wouldn't like it just because PJ has made 3 good films in a row? "That's enough goodness for now, screw PJ!". I don't think so.
