I don’t see how this comes close to Alien Covenant. It looks like a Hulu original

I think they very much want it to look like a particular hulu original - Prey.

And I think this overperforms because of it. ~$45M.

Romulus is not opening below 40m. Presales are solid and its looking at 6m ish previews. Its definitely winning the weekend.

If reviews are positive I could see it doing $50M+. The Alien franchise may have been through some tough times and questionable film choices (I like to pretend AVP: Requiem does not exist), but it's still iconic and has a core fanbase. This is supposed to be a back to basics film combining the style of the first two films. Early reactions seem incredibly positive.

Also, if you think about this is the first actual proper Alien sequel since (the mostly terrible/corny/over the top) Alien: Resurrection. AVP doesn't really count, that was like an ill advised fanboy fantasy. Prometheus wasn't even marketed as an Alien movie. Alien: Covenant didn't feature the classic xenomorph until like 1hr 30min in.

Maybe there is pent-up demand to finally see another proper, high quality Alien movie.

Alien has a very solid fanbase. Alien 3, resurrections 5 day, AVP all adjust over 45+ million. The movies are spaced out enough to rebuild the hope of alien/ Aliens. Even the last two predators opened over 25. Since this looks to go back to the horror roots and marketing is great too, seems like an easy win.

The trailers have had a great reaction and buzz is good.
I say 45-50m.

Presales are ramping up very well. I definitely see 50m OW now.

Interesting how May could only see 1 $35M+ opening (Apes) and we could see two in a row in August.

Climate change is real

I think Prey would have broke $40M+ too with a normal release. People love these monsters no matter how many bad films they're in.

If reviews are amazing could it break $60M? Prometheus OW adjusts to about $68M, the fanbase is there.

Prey 2 would probably do great in theatres with this Godzilla Kong/etc. type of audience

Prometheus and Covenant both had terrible legs so its easy to look at their final totals and say "meh, flop."

85% on RT for Alien. If this goes for 50m+ that'd be great.

Oh hell yes, we are BACK! Looks like finally have another truly worthy sequel to Alien (I did like Prometheus but the way the male scientists act is so annoying and nonsensical)

It Ends With Us is getting some pretty interesting press in regards to the rumors of feuds. Wonder if this will help it lol
