Last two years have been marked by two juggarnauts (Top Gun/Avatar, Mario/Barbie), so if there is another 500/600 million joining Inside Out 2's mega breakout, which of these is the one?

The Lion King seems like the least beloved predecessor movie here easily.

Deadpool sales are very good but skews thursday heavily. I think its OW is comparable to Thor rather than something way bigger. Plus its a movie from Shawn Levy and will be meh. I dont think its making 400m domestic.

Moana is a sequel to 250m grosser bus DTV movie converted to theatrical. It could increase to 300m+ but I would not expect it to hit Frozen levels. no other Disney Animation has hit that level and only one which will do it is Zootopia 2.

Joker succeeded with not a typical SH audience. I think the sequel will do well but expecting a big increase like regular SH movies is foolhardy. I am thinking somewhere in 250-350m range if everything goes well.

Mufasa trailer re creates the magic with original Lion King. That music alone does it. So even if it drops as expected from the meh 2019 audience it has potential to hit 400m with holiday legs. So I think off this list it has the highest peak potential.

I think Wicked is going to be a major player that could challenge this core 4. If it pulls a Frozen adjusted it's not outside the realm of possibility even if highly improbable.

I always thought Mufasa would do well despite the last one. The character of Mufasa is the best of the franchise and the Christmas release date will help. It's just so hard to work out if the 2019 film pissed off enough people. Plus Sonic 3 is no chopped liver. It will be formidable competition (I'd advise Paramount to move up a week though). Time will tell.

Not Mufasa. I'm getting Alice Through the Looking Glass vibes. Absolutely nobody asked for a Lion King prequel. I think last one did what it did because of how strong the Disney brand was in 2019 and people mindlessly going to see it because the animated Lion King is so iconic. But I do think it was a case of it coming and going very very quickly and leaving no lasting impression.

Edit: went to YouTube to try and see what the comments are like and every single trailer for this has comments blocked lol. That tells you enough.

I hope so guys. Would love Sonic to beat Mufasa. I do hope Mufasa moves a week back. Usually better to be the one released first.

It doesn’t feel rational but I still think Mufasa somehow dark horses this. Disney’s roll with big ticket blockbusters continues, plus I’m hoping Barry Jenkins delivers something beautiful and new.

Although it and Sonic 3 opening same day is really dumb (didn’t the other two Sonics do great in February? and now it’s a Christmastime movie? doesn’t feel right, dumb)
