Post F1 Movie
Brad Pitt's Formula 1 movie coming June 2025. Will be TGM director's follow up to his $700M+ film.

Backed by Apple and reported this week that it now is at a whopping $300M budget!!!

Produced by Lewis Hamilton. Lots of appearances at F1 races so as officially as you can get.

Of course its small for Apple but feels like this could be massive with the rise of F1 popularity.

How is this going to do? Feels like this could be one of the biggest sports movies ever if it does resonate worldwide.

Sub 200 unless it looks amazing, maybe if it starred Cruise it would’ve had better chance. They will get some Apple subs internationally out of it.

They filmed at some races last year before the strike and will do so again now that F1 is back in Europe. From what ive heard its tge visuals and footage that will win people over. Highly doubtful the story will seeing that Pitt mentioned he and his co star race for the worst team as they make their way up the grid - highly fictional in the world of F1.

While i’ll wait for the trailer for a proper prediction - assuming it looks good - i can see $150-200m domestic and $300-400m overseas considering F1 is bigger around the world than it is in the US. That said - this is the best time for release in the US as F1 has never been more popular there.

Ridiculous budget. Nothing should have a 3 as the first number unless it has the word Avengers in the title.

Indeed. $300m ensures it doesn't make a profit theatrically.

Ford vs Ferrari had a $98M budget in 2019 and that was with stars like Bale and Damon.

Ferrari budget was $95M

Gran Turismo $60M

Rush $60M

F1 rights I guess included? $300M+ just feels so over the top.

99.999% of TGM attendees don't know the guy's name, lol

It's mostly useful for the "From the director of TGM" line.

That also won't make a sizeable difference. Nobody who saw TGM cared who the director was. They all went to revisit an 80s classic and because of Cruise. I bet many of them don't even know or care who directed the first film.

I suppose it can't hurt to have the TGM title on the poster, though. The 'if that was good this might be' mentality, but I really wonder if that still works (or ever did).

Well between the 300 mil and the trailer a year early move like they're a Superman movie they're certainly carrying themselves like a big blockbuster.

At the minimum will make more than Gran Turismo, but that’s not a high benchmark

Ford v Ferrari had the most help any racing film ever had and that managed $117m. I can't see this topping that.

Also with it being called F1 it might hard to differentiate the marketing from the F1 season and/or a video game or something.

The teaser trailer is excellent. I mean, Stallone pipped them to the idea 24 years ago, but still it looks good.

$50-70 million

I can’t imagine this does more than 175m total if everything went right for it.

More likely it does 100-125m total.

Solid first trailer. Seems like it's going to be massive overseas though.

I hate the fact it is called "F1" but nevertheless F1 has become popular in the US over the last 5 years so that and being an IMAX must see should help it get over $125m stateside.

Overseas, it should be good for $300m-400m which would be great if not for that hefty budget.

Stallone initially was making an F1 film (was going to be called "Into Thin Air"). He attended a bunch of races in 97/98 but eventually he couldn't secure the rights and he pivoted to Indy Car/CART and Driven was born.

To the majority of people, there is no difference. It's fast F1-looking cars going around a track.

I've never heard it being called "Into Thin Air". The earliest iteration I recall is "Champs".

On paper should do less than something like Ford v. Ferrari, but I think it will have a massive marketing push from liberty media (promo at a lot of races next year, drivers promoting it, etc.) so that might boost it past $100m DOM. However, the date isn’t that great: 1 week before Jurassic World and 2 before Superman

Yes, Champs was the title after switching to Indy (aka Champ cars).

The cars driven by Pitt in the F1 film aren't even F1 cars - they are F2 cars :funny:

Trailer was basically everything you could hope for to reel in Maverick type audience. I'll say this year's Twisters.

Even though it feels like a summer movie I think being the other movie on Wicked Part 2's weekend was the safest play to get men out. M3gan is still a fun combo though.

Stallone was 20+ years ahead of the curve with Driven.

And this just looks like a Lewis Hamilton biopic. Trailer is ok but every shot just reminds me how Driven did it first, and it's already an excellent film, there's no need for me to care about F1.
