Re: Jan. 19-21 weekend thread
Seems a little weak for Mean Girls and Beekeeper for having no new competition. I can see American Fiction doing well after Oscar nominations and expansion.

Not a great expansion for Poor Things. Might hold pretty well next weekend after Oscar nominations.

That's not a terrible drop for Mean Girls tbh.
Pretty cool to see Boy and the Heron and Godzilla keep chugging along.

Re: Jan. 19-21 weekend thread
So impressive that ABY is going to do $85M+ without a single day $4M+. Also without a single weekend so far in the top 3. Could very likely have it's first top 3 next weekend if it passes Wonka or Beekeeper. Similarly, There's Something About Mary only had 1 day of its run $5M+ before finishing with $176M. It only reached the top 2 in weekend 7.
Also a crazy stat, Aquaman has yet to see a drop worse than 50%! It's PTA was down only 21.3% this weekend.
Iron Claw also had a slim 18.6% PTA drop. PTA drops of its run (-4.5%, +12.8%, -20.2%, -18.6%). It probably could have done some much bigger box office with a bigger studio.

I can't see that. A24 probably pushed it harder than any other studio would have, thanks to their commitment to quality, niche films. It's already the biggest serious wrestling movie of all time. Nacho Libre is the biggest wrestling movie with 80 Million, but that was a Jack Black comedy. It's impressive that it's done as well as it has. It has surpassed The Wrestler, which was nominated for 2 Oscars.

Re: Jan. 19-21 weekend thread

Re: Jan. 19-21 weekend thread
These have all been pleasant successes to varying degrees. Speaks well of quality and breadth at the box office:
The Beekeeper -28.38% Anyone But You -22.00% Wonka -17.21% The Boys in the Boat -18.72% Migration -11.49% Poor Things +17.49% (still more to come) American Fiction -4.05% (still more to come) Godzilla Minus One -20.03% All of Us Strangers +19.89% The Hunger Games +4.45% Oppenheimer -2.91%
This is passable and not a disaster as it could have been:
Aquaman 2 -22.07%
These opened well but have failed since:
Night Swim -37.92% Mean Girls -47.92% The Color Purple -46.93%
This is an outright dud:
The Book of Clarence -37.45%

Re: Jan. 19-21 weekend thread
Tuesday #'s (with drops from last Tuesday)
1 The Beekeeper $1,255,982 -28% $33,314,802 2 Mean Girls $1,177,925 -44% $51,932,821 3 Anyone But You $683,432 -21% $65,383,459 4 Wonka $591,869 -30% $188,460,289 5 The Boys in the Boat $459,986 -13% $44,633,121
6 Migration $416,595 -32% $95,557,250 7 I.S.S. $394,955 $3,729,8168 8 Poor Things $376,461 +65% $21,096,535 9 Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom $354,014 -34% $114,814,090 10 American Fiction $308,463 +48% $8,438,423
Last week, most films dropped another 30% after Wed so seemed more inflated than usual from discount Tuesday and people possibly still off after MLK Day. That 31% drop for Beekeeper is very good. Will be at $40M+ this weekend. If it reaches $66M would reach a 4X multiplier.
