Re: Christmas 2023 weekend thread
Thursday previews.
That honestly seems ok for Migration. Curious to see how Aquaman holds throughout the week. That preview # should guarantee $100m domestic given the holiday but who knows.

Thank God the color purple comes in two days cause these are some weak numbers. Hoping the color purple pours a 20+ opening day. Musicals are saving the holidays this Christmas for sure.

Re: Christmas 2023 weekend thread
Aquaman made 9 million from Thursday previews, but had 4.7 million in screenings before that. If it made half as much as the 9 I think it would be ok, but not sure about half as much as the 13.7

Re: Christmas 2023 weekend thread
"Previews" started at 2 pm for Migration and 3 pm for Aquman. At least half of students were out of school/college yesterday so will be interesting to see how these movies do today. With a whopping $13,367,351 contribution, goodbye $9B for 2023.

Not looking good for Migration which makes Wish look better. But the night is still young for that one

Re: Christmas 2023 weekend thread
Both Aquabro 2/Migration are having good walkups. Aquabro 2 I expect will crash soon. WOM is only tad better than Morbius :-) Migration also seem mixed to me. Could still leg it out to 100m domestic due to holidays but its unlikely to be another Puss in the boots 2 for sure.

Re: Christmas 2023 weekend thread
I’ve not heard anyone hate Aquaman, just say it’s more same old same old. But nothing Particularly terrible that I’ve heard.
How is Color Purple looking?
Feeling like even if that one is front loaded it will start so big it will cross 100m domestically.

There is some spillover to 26th but it will see a big drop. 27th sales are another 80%+ down from 26th and so its going to be driven by WOM and walkups. I think 100m domestic is safe.

Re: Christmas 2023 weekend thread
Aquaman should be able to do 15m OD and low 30’s 3-day, 40m Four day.
Even with bad WoM I don’t see it dropping more than 35% over new years.
Will be hard for it to miss 100m total even if it really starts plummeting after that. It would do 150+ if it held as well as Aquaman 1

Pretty laughable Disney has no big release this season and their 2024 looks pretty dry.

Perhaps animation and family films are not as sustainable as they once were. The market can perhaps only hold a few these days with families being very picky on what they are willing to buy up to five high priced movie tickets for.

Its the worst reviewed animation movie of the season and most likely lowest box office gross domestic as well.

Trolls looks like the winner unless Migration pulls some crazy increases. This holiday season is so meh. We don't have a lock yet to see a $30M+ movie 3day. Probably will see the lowest #1 movie over the holidays since 2013's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug with $31,505,278.

Darth Indiana Bond wrote: Forgot about Trolls. Okay then, non-sequel It's way too early to write off Migration. If it follows the two Sing movies, it could have a 6 or 7x multi which might be enough to put it over wish depending on its OW.

Re: Christmas 2023 weekend thread
Yeah Migration should be fine. Did people learn nothing from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish? It opened to 12.4 Million this same weekend. Went on to gross 185.5 Million. Or there's Yogi Bear, which opened the weekend before Christmas with 16.4 Million, on its way to just over 100 Million. People don't really start going to the movies until Christmas. The days before it are too busy.

Re: Christmas 2023 weekend thread
https://www.the-numbers.com/box-office- ... 2022/12/23Wow. Last year #5 Black Panther made less than $1m at #5 meanwhile Poor Things in less than 1000 theaters made 1m. So I guess there's some variety this season.

Reviews are good enough and unless I'm missing something, there's not another kids movie until March 8th when Kung Fu Panda opens. Which is absolutely insane.
