Holiday 2023 Weekdays
Tuesday #'s are getting up there so just started a new thread.
Wonka $5,904,173 $48,913,301 Hunger Games $1.2M -4.1% $147,370,000 Heron $1,090,000 -26% $25,448,799 Godzilla $928,219 -22% $36,055,76 Trolls $751,485 +38% $89,873,980 Wish $633,584 +18% $55,264,432 Napoleon $428,244 -26% $57,800,027
If HG follows CF's dailies from Wed pre Christmas on its total will be $172.3M. CF dropped -35.8% that week so HG is well positioned to possibly still do $180M though it is 3 days closer to Christmas.

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
Wed Dec. 21st #'s
1. WONKA ($4.34M) 2. THE BOY AND THE HERON ($1M) -23.7% 3. HUNGER GAMES ($1M) +5.8%
Napoleon $385,000 -14% $58,185,027
HG now at $147.2M ish (until actuals). Looks like it could pull a 4X multiplier ($178.4M), which is super impressive considering none of the original movies could even pull a 3X multiplier. 2.93X at best. Smaller OW makes that easier but still a very good recovery.

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
Nice for Hunger Games (I agree 4x multiplier for its genre is impressive) and Wonka did well on Tuesday.

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
At one point before Hunger Games came out I wasn't even sure it would do 100 Million. Its run has been impressive. I'm glad. It deserves it.

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
Tuesday is looking like Wonka back at #1. No surprise. Estimate is 9.25 Million. Aquaman 2 coming in around 8.5. The Color Purple with 7 Million. And Migration with 6.75.

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
Puss 2 - First 6 days ($26,153,375)
Wed Dec 21 $3,200,250 Thur Dec 22 $2,902,605 Fri Dec 23 $3,803,345 Sat Dec 24 $2,792,860 Sun Dec 25 $5,833,310 Mon Dec 26 $6,821,005
Migration - First 5 days ($24,563,055 est)
Fri Dec 22 $5,747,620 Sat Dec 23 $4,162,880 Sun Dec 24 $2,542,775 Mon Dec 25 $5,359,780 Tues Dec 26* $6,750,000
That would be very good for Migration. Dec. 26th was Puss In Boots 2's biggest day of its entire run and Migration is $71K off of that. The biggest test for it will be it's holds post holidays but this would position it well.
As for Wonka vs Jumanji:
Jumanji (2017) - Dec. 22-26 total: $72,381,302 (made $16,605,967 previous 2 days)
Fri Dec 22 $12,353,864 Sat Dec 23 $14,765,631 Sun Dec. 24 $9,049,833 Mon Dec. 25 $19,138,553 Tue Dec 26 $17,073,421
5day holiday ($72,381,302) / remaining ($387,909,513) multiplier: 5.35925X
Wonka - Dec. 22 - 26 total: $37,600,000 (made $57,502,717 previous 7 days)
Fri Dec 22 $6,500,000 Sat Dec 23 $7,000,000 Sun Dec 24 $4,550,000 Mon Dec 25 $10,300,000 Tues Dec. 26* $9,250,000
5day holiday ($37,600,000) / remaining (TBD) multiplier: 5.35925X
Wonka made 51.95% of Jumanji's 5 day gross on similar days. I doubt it will hold nearly as well, but if it manages to follow Jumanji's daily pattern for the rest of its run it would finish with 5.36X it's 5day gross plus preceeding week's gross, for a projected total of $259,010,528.

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
Dec. 26th #'s
Wonka $8,900,000 +51% $94,453,000 Aquaman $8,325,000 $46,625,000 The Color Purple $7,000,000 $25,150,000 Migration $6,524,060 $24,337,115 The Boys in the Boat $3,005,063 $8,728,445 (-25% just from yesterday's gross alone) Anyone But You Sony Pictures $2,610,000 $10,660,000 The Iron Claw $1,708,784 $8,507,859 Ferrari $1,545,818 $4,422,103 Godzilla Minus One $822,376 -11% $41,803,375 Trolls Band Together $689,490 -8% $94,031,655
Solid for Boat. It has already outgrossed how much I could have seen it making and is a pleasant surprise.

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
It sounds like Color Purple's Dec 25 was inflated by some pre screenings.
It seems like the impact of the superhero declines is some of the little movies like Heron, Godzilla, Anyone But You, Boys in the Boat, Iron Claw, etc. doing a bit better than expected (can also include Leave the World Behind, Leo and Rebel Moon as streaming options) as people's taste splits up into what their demo is. You compare that to last year where for example I Wanna Dance With Somebody made 23 total, the Fabelmans 17 and Babylon 15. I think they'd all do better in 2023 environment.

Go Wonka!
Can Godzilla still make it to $50m? Feels like it lost most of its screens.

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
Great though expected for Wonka. It should dominate the next couple of weeks.
Migration should end up over $100m and so too will Purple. Today’s drop was expected for Purple considering the special group screenings it was getting on Dec 25th.
I like the breadth of this Christmas BO - we have multiple films doing well as opposed to one monster dominating like last year. It actually feels like how it used to be pre-1997 - before big blockbusters were slotted in to December (Titanic, LOTR, Hobbit, Avatar, Star Wars etc).

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
As a box office watcher I remember one of the most exciting Christmases was 2005 Narnia vs Kong. They both felt like big blockbusters but also weren't franchise pics per se. It felt like a meeting point between old Hollywood and the new franchise-driven movie world. And they were also both very good.

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
Disney has a track record of botching franchises and their move of Narnia from Dec where it saw success, to May where it made almost half the original was one of the biggest scheduling blunders of all time. Narnia was primed to be a HP type franchise for them but was a wasted opportunitiy!

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
Anyone But You's daily retention is very promising. Could be at a 4X multiplier by the end of its second weekend. I could see it do $50M+ for a 8X multiplier.

Re: Holiday 2023 Weekdays
Migration is actually outpacing Puss 2 at this point which is very promising.
However, the most impressive thing about Puss' run was it's Jan/Feb performance where it had incredible holds due to lack of competition and great WOM. Too early to see how Migration does but right now I think it's looking good for $120M+. It could be at just under $60M by Jan. 1st and with MLK coming up will give it another cushion. It's also got a fairly empty marketplace but think the Turning Red re-release may do better than expected.
Will be at a 4.5X multiplier at least by Jan. 1st so a 10X+ multiplier would be a great performance, especially with a $72M budget.
