It took until seeing him in his real hair to realize how handsome Blythe is, him and Zegler would be best looking movie pairing in a while if Barbie hadn’t just come out. Nice to see another potential star along with others like Butler and Mescal recently. Let’s get Holland out of here and bring in some real new leading men, even Chalamet while he’s talented it always seemed a bit too boyish.

After watching The Hunger Games yesterday I think Blyth might be one of the most beautiful people I've ever seen. Couldn't get over it. I liked him a bit less in the third act with a shaved head, but he was stunning before that. Not even necessarily my type (my top 2 celebrity crushes are Lewis Pullman and Paul Mescal), but he was definitely beautiful. He was really good in the film too. I'm looking forward to seeing him in more stuff. I'm the opposite though, I think he looks best with the blonde Hunger Games hair. I'd seen him in the god-awful Benediction movie, but he didn't even register then.

Some Monday #'s

1. HUNGER GAMES ($1.9M)
2. NAPOLEON ($1.4M)

HG passes $100M on its 11th day. 21st of the year to do so. Will be the movie that kicks The Flash out of the annual top 20 so clearly The Flash wasn't up to survive in the box office hunger games. :P

Tuesday #'s

1. HUNGER GAMES ($2.6M)
2. NAPOLEON ($2M)
3. WISH ($1M)

HG was at $5,266,808 last Monday (Tues was Thanksgiving skewed) so this is a solid # for the week after. Maybe at $120M by the end of its third weekend. Wonka's not out till Dec. 15th so could be at $135M-145M going into that weekend. If it benefits from a holiday bump even better.

Yeah they blew their load in 2019 and got too cocky afterwards, and now they've oversaturated the market with mediocre product and people have had enough. It's like when you try to eat an entire can of Pringles. They just start to taste gross and then you don't want to eat them again for weeks.

Universal are the bigger studio now because they focused on appealing films and they also haven't made their studio part of their brand. Whereas Disney always have to market things as a Disney product that ties into their parks, so when people sour on the brand all their films are affected. Inside Out 2 should be fine next year though. But the days of turning random Z list superheroes into blockbusters are over.

Bob Iger made the rounds at a Disney summit and kept bashing Chapek.

Iger greenlit all of these movies I believe. Chapek cleared DP3. So the spin game continues. :funny:

Iger is more to blame IMO.

He's the one that aggressively released biggies in 2018 and 2019 in prep for Disney Plus.

He's also responsible for rush releasing a Star Wars film every year between 2015 and 2019. He later admitted his mistake.

Also HE picked the successor!! :funny:

Pixar was also in dire straights with overdependency of sequels before the pandemic. Post Inside Out in 2015, Pixar has only had one original movie make $155M+ (Coco). I almost certainly think Turning Red would have been massive for them in normal times and with a normal release.

Wed

1. HUNGER GAMES ($1.8M)
2. NAPOLEON ($1.3M)

Thanksgiving $425,000

HG not that far from its Monday #. Would really be something if it somehow pulls off an under 50% drop post Thanksgiving.

Very happy with Hunger Games’ success. It does show that while some films flop, others pick up the slack if they are good/liked.

Post Re: Thanksgiving weekend thread
You know its bad when a holiday titled movie (Thanksgiving) could surpass Wish AFTER the holiday is over. Due to the lack of family films maybe Wish can have a decent hold but looking like a bad rest of run.

Also:

Catching Fire 3day Thanksgiving weekend: $74,179,601
Monday $3,402,550 -76.1%
Tuesday $4,009,955 +17.9%
Wednesday $3,017,817 -24.7%

CF made 72.2% of its total gross in its first 13 days. If HG follows that, would finish with $145.43M.

However, here are HG's stats:

Thanksgiving Weekend: $29,042,517
Monday $1,913,274 -71%
Tuesday $2,682,723 +40.2%
Wednesday $1,846,120 -31.2%

HG had just 28.22% of CF's OW gross, 39.15% of the 2nd 3day weekend gross of CF, but the total of M-W for HG is $6.442M vs CF's $10.430M (61.76%).

If HG retains that 61.76% of CF's weekend 3 gross, it would be at a $16.172M 3rd weekend (-44.31% drop for a total of $123M.

As it's getting significantly better holds than CF (and could eventually outpace it's dailies if it gets a strong holiday bump), seems like it could do $160M+.
