WOODSTOCK's $39m US gross (in theaters for more than a decade) translates into $281.6m inflation adjusted - will ERAS top that mark?

Roughly that will translate to how many tickets? I am sure even that movie would have had inflated ticket prices.

I feel like there’s a decent portion on the population that doesn’t know this exists

It's getting TV ads. So people outside of hardcore Swifties should start to learn of its existence, if they didn't already know.

Anyway, yes, it will definitely beat Woodstock adjusted.

If she shows up to a screening with Travis, will football fans show up in droves? That led to a 400% spike in his jersey sales from her just showing up to a game. :hahaha:

LOL at the “do regular people know this exists?” comments. EVERYONE knows it exists. My GRANDMA who knows nothing about pop culture texted me the day after it was announced. Everyone will be seeing this because it is one of the biggest pop culture moments in our history thus far and most will want to know WHAT makes it his concert so incredible.

So yeah, sky is the limit.

The Taylor effect is in full swing.

Beyonce's Renaissance concert movie is in final stages to be released with AMC on Dec 1, 2023.

Going to play in the holiday season. Beyonce will have the same arrangement as Swift. Beyonce stands to pocket 50%+ of worldwide grosses.

This artist-direct dealmaking on AMC’s part effectively cuts out the studios again.

Renaissance World Tour is expected to gross close to $560 million in ticket sales. With Swift's $1.4B Eras tour, I feel like a $100M gross for Beyonce's movie would be respectable. Also plays well for the holidays.

Trolls is pretty must acting like an N'Sync concert movie.

Wow the studios must be seething. :funny: So much $$$ that they won't have any cut of.

The concert trend hasn't even begun and they’ll run it into the ground by year’s end.

Yeah they should really space them out by at least half a year. Beyonce, Adele, U2 in the Sphere, Olivia Rodrigo, etc... All these concert tickets are too expensive for normal people now and they'll see it in the movie theater if necessary ... but not every two months lol.

If I were to answer the poll today, I would switch from "it will be close" to "no"....

Big question was what were the ticket prices back then. I am skeptical they would have charged 1.55 which was ATP for movie ticket in 1970. Based on wikipedia, they released it only in one theater in major metropolitan cities. So I am sure they would have charged higher than normal ticket price as well.

This thread is gold. It perfectly encapsulates the KJ eagerness to predict phenomenons, but the frequency to which they attempt it voids the whole idea of such an occurence.

As I said above, for Funny Girl, they charged 100 a ticket back in 1968 for a couple theaters. Which is Why Funny Girl is weirdly messed up in the inflation adjusted chart. It did close to 600 million, but they must of adjusted based on tickets sold. 2001 is under 400 million which is wrong and Funny Girl is at 366 despite being the number one film of that year.

You misread, people who wanted to attend the movie's premiere had to pay $100...

That’s Wikipedia, I saw a doc on it years ago, it was multiple theaters, and the New York one stayed at that price for over a month.

That's impossible... that would have been way more than the regular ticket for a broadway show back than...

It’s was a premiere gala event type thing that attracted all types of A-Listers who would party after. I can’t believe how massive Streisand was. Her box office might adjusted might even be more impressive than Roberts, considering she also directed and was an EGOT winner.

Beyonce concert movie at $20M+ according to DHD. That's very good for the post Thanksgiving weekend which is usually a dead zone.

So what’s the overall view on this. It’s obviously great, but those 250 global debut numbers were ridiculous, and it’ll be the first 90 million opener to miss 200. It was definitely right place right time, I think Beyoncé will be the better indicator to see how these type of films go going forward, though I’d love it to do better.

Still think Swift has a chance at $200M.

$6,094,135 from a -55% drop but only $27.3M away and could get people see it Thanksgiving and maybe comes back over Christmas.

It’s gonna lose a lot of theaters, maybe if KC was on fire they’d keep promoting it. 5+ multiplier seems unlikely, also how does this deal work. Do they just stop it randomly at some point?

Well Disney bought this for exclusive rights on Disney+ for what reports say is $75M+.

Eras made $250M globally. Assuming they got at least 35% of the global box office grosses. Maybe $87.5M.

So Eras alone (not even including the tour, merchandise, etc.) as a theatrical/streaming release will probably get her $163M alone. :noway:
