Barbie only went up a bit to 74.6m and 574.2m total. Till should finish with 750-800m range in current markets and then whatever Japan/Middle East can do.

Barbie is not doing much in Japan. It has Middle Eastern countries like Saudi/UAE. Not sure if it will do well there. Otherwise its OS total will rely on markets open since its release week. Definitely making 750m+ and may be even 800m OS total.

Oppenheimer is chugging along in current markets and is holding better overall than Barbie. Its next big market is Korea and presales are spectacular. There is a great research done by someone at BOT that provides OD(holiday potential). We have to wait for WOM to see where it ends up but I am optimistic on it grossing 50m+ or even Interstellar levels(75m?) over there.

I've heard of some of the presales numbers in SK and they sound through the roof good. It's going to do a big run there.

it definitely does not need Japan to hit 1 Billie. Korea WOM needs to be strong. Already critics over there are raving and as I said before Interstellar did over 10m admits over there. This topic is more personal over there and I can see this connecting with that audience. I think 50-70m range for Oppy for now. We will know for sure how the WOM on tuesday next week. There is also Italy where I am expecting it to do extremely well like rest of Europe. I am thinking 20-25m(similar to Spain). It also has few other small markets that can add another 10m. Existing markets can go as high as 500m and domestic with Imax re-release in Sep/Oct as Imax CEO has hinted could go higher than what we see now. Let us say 325m for now.

What Oppy needs to confirm 1B is China having a good 2 week run. That will make it a walk in the park. Interstellar did over 700m yuan in 2014 and while hollywood movies are under performing, something could buck the trend if WOM is there. It needs 500m yuan to put 1B WW in play without Japan.

Barbie - 45.1m OS weekend/657.6m OS total
Oppy - 31.9/384.8m

Good weather in Europe impacted holds for both the movies. Barbie seem to be worse hit. Plus it did not do well in Japan though it has opened very well in UAE/Saudi. Next weekend hold should be much better since we are lapping a good weather week. Still think 800m OS is possible for Barbie.

Oppy opened only in Vietnam( ~$450k). Rest are all holdovers. But the next big market is opening on Tuesday(National Day) in Korea. I am expecting 2m+ admits OW($17-18m) and where it finishes depends on WOM. We will know on Tuesday. Italy/Greece are opening week later and China the week following that. No info on Japan at the moment. My projections have not changed. I am hoping for 1B WW :-)

Huge final day of presales in Korea. Based on CGV start its looking at 700K+ admits just for opening day !!! If WOM is as strong as we have seen elsewhere, its going to be humongous in this market.

1 billion for Oppenheimer is absurd wow. But yeah even if it doesn't reach $950m+ what a crazy number for a film like this.

you never know. Based on most markets Imax/PLF have must watch for even folks who otherwise dont go to movies. We have seen it in all markets including Asia. Korea is showing that as well today. It had crazy strong presales and not much of walkups as Imax/PLF sold out through presales.

For 1B China has to do something. Early Douban scores are promising. Let us wait and see how presales go. They have tons of Imax/PLF as well.

Oppenheimer's OD in S Korea is $4.3m, sounds pretty huge.

Its actually National day over there. So opening day was highly boosted mostly driven by presales. We have to see how rest of the week goes. I would not say WOM is amazing(92 egg/8.9 megabox). I am still hopeful that must see factor for Imax/PLF will help it have good overall number.

Of course Koreans are rushing to see a movie about Japan getting obliterated.

If that's why they want to see it, damn they're going to be disappointed.

So Oppenheimer in Korea has done good but not great. Looking at around 25m total which is neither great nor bad. Italy is opening this week along with Greece. JustLurking(who also posts here) said at BOT that its looking at 1.5m Euros for OD alone. Spain is looking to finish excess of 20m euros. I am expecting something similar there or even more. Greece is not a big market but couple of million over there.

China presales have started and based on data seen its having stronger start than MI7. Nolan was there for the premier. Should be exciting to track.

I think 900m WW looks like probable finish at this point unless China does something special.

with the level of sales I'm seeing could even be higher than 1.5M tbh, but yeah. if WOM is strong there is absolutely fucking nothing in theaters here for months, 20M+ could totally happen

Oppenheimer Italy OD was just over 2m euros. Slightly behind Barbie for biggest OD of the year. 5 day OW would be huge.

China PS is growing very well. Very comparable to biggest hollywood movies in China especially when show count is still very low. I am optimistic about it having big OD/OW.

Barbie is going for 800m+ OS total. Its holds are stellar in Europe/ANZ where movies have long runway. I hope late domestic legs can leg it to 1.5B WW but for now its looking like falling around 1475M WW.

Phenomenal OW in Italy for Oppy. Those are uber blockbuster numbers beaten only by Barbie and Avatar 2 before among recent movies. Its looking at 25m total over there. I am expecting 550m+ from existing markets.

China PS 2 days to go is slightly behind Transformers movie but its show count is around 1/3 what Transformers had. I am expecting huge jump over next 2 days leading to OD. Maoyan is predicting Previews ¥5.235M &OD ¥52.877M. That would be $8m+ Od on a wednesday. I am expecting 50m+ OW next weekend then its all about WOM. While its not going to appeal to everyone, Nolan has a strong fanbase who will come in for sure. I am hoping China can take Oppenheimer above 1B WW. Its reasonable at this point.

Apparently Universal has committed to keep Oppenheimer in theaters until February so will go through awards season and with Dune not around will keep its premium screens longer. Let's see how far it can go, especially once awards recognition comes in.

Almost certainly feels like with another potential 5 months of release (and re-releases closer to the Oscars) could really get a big lengthy run.

I think Universal is trying extra hard here to show their dedication to the theatrical experience to ensure Nolan makes another movie with them vs WB.
